Time lapse Dandelion flower to seed head

Фильм және анимация

Filmed for my plant identification app itunes.apple.com/gb/app/right...
play.google.com/store/apps/de...
Filmed for my rightplants app / rightplants
Time lapse dandelion flower to seed head /dandelion clock filmed continuously over a period of one month.
Intervals between 5-45 minutes.
Aphids continue to feed on the dandelion whilst the seeds mature.
Dandelion are considered a weed, though I think they are very beautiful.
This sequence was filmed for the interactive plant identifier and pruning guide encyclopaedia itunes.apple.com/gb/app/right...
The app is designed to help find and identify the right plants for every aspect of a garden and seasonal need and help you create a garden design with colour and interest. I use photographs as well as time lapse sequences to make it more informative. I hope you find it interesting.
Music is called Attrition, by Debbie Wiseman
Filmed by Neil Bromhall
Nikon D200 with 55mm lens with growlight and studio flash.

Interesting to note that at the time that the modern English name was adopted, _dent-de-lion_ was in fact a common French name for this flower (and indeed there are 'lion's tooth' equivalents in many other European languages); on the other hand, it was once commonly called _pissabed_ and variations thereof in English as well.

@@Dargonhuman Well since u seem to talk from such a high point of view, I may also then add that u should surely know the "common" knowledge of how complex the discussion of intellect really is then? Since if you genuinely think basing someones intellect by the simple fact of them not knowing a so called "common" knowledge thing about a single plant, that's quite the shallow thought process bud. The fact they actually are willing to admit about them not knowing this actually proves the opposite, since intelligence is about wanting to learn more stuff, not gatekeep the knowledge because of stupid pride of not wanting to admit to lacking knowledge. There are tons of reasons as to why someone may not know this fact, and jumping to such extreme conclusions before hand more so would be what I would classify myself as simply being "ignorant". The person may just not be outside a lot, people who do activities especially in summer outside will of course see the flower a lot more often than someone who spends almost the whole summer inside doing inside activities. The person may also just not live an area with many dandelions if any. Or the person may just simply not be interested a lot in nature and is easily distracted by other things, since there are actual diagnoses for such things like people with ADHD, but they aren't any less intelligent than any other person on average. There are a lot of actual intelligent people who lack common knowledge in many areas but makes up for it in their huge knowledge in other specific areas, but they aren't so called dumb because of that. Look at some of the most intelligent people or just outright ur average person diagnosed with asbergers/autism which is on average rated to have much higher IQ than the average neurotypical. These people are usually gold mines of knowledge, but also lack it other areas, like knowing about celebrities, social rules and so on which many like you would also classify as being "common knowledge".

Dear Neil Bromhall 👍👌👏 Simply fantastic. Very well done. Thanks a lot for making recording editing uploading and sharing. 2) I pick and eat a handful (about 10 to 12) tasty dandelion blossoms/flowers per day in the blooming season (no stems). Also some wild garlic leaves with stems. It's nearly unbelievable how much energy this puts into ones body every year. Additionally this behaviour works like an inside spring cleaning every year. Sometimes I add some daisies or, after the dandelion season, some marguerite blossoms/flowers (also without stems). Best regards, luck and health to all involved life forms (humans and plants). ;-)

Dandelions do not require pollination to produce seeds. They basically clone themselves. So, in fact just about every dandelion is genetically identical to the rest.

  • @xhisteriah

    @xhisteriah

I hope they can still pollinate if they wish. Genetic diversity can be the difference between life and death! That's how we made our original banana species near extinct, after all. We cloned them to high heaven, and when a banana disease sprung forward, there were no bananas capable of resisting the disease. Now we have a different banana species as our main banana, and they're all clones AGAIN! I'm lowkey worried about the next bananapocalypse. EDIT: actually not entirely extinct, but gros michel bananas cannot be grown large-scale anymore, and can only be grown in places without Panama disease
