Nice breakdown! Also worth mentioning: In Japan, Time Crisis got a PS2 release as part of Namco's Gunvari Collection, which was Point Blank 1-3 and Time Crisis on one PS2 disc!
I'm surprised sony has yet to beg namco to make a new times crisis for VR. I mean the game basically feels like it would be at home at VR

The genre really did shift to VR didn't it? Not to say that's a bad thing at all. Having on rail shooters nowadays on other platforms is questionable. The market for that is even lower considering the peripherals you need on a TV. It is cheaper, but most people aren't gonna get a peripheral for one specific genre
Absolutely love TIme Crisis 2 and 3. Spent many quarters on the arcade machines for those two games.
I love watching your videos, no matter what subject you cover. I'm not big on shooters other than House of the Dead, but this opened my eyes to Time Crisis. Your dedication to the craft is outstanding - you're still my favorite KZread channel. Keep up the great work!!!

Time Crisis was one of the best on-rail shooter games with an epic plot and music! I would almost compare the game to how Sega made their games with those elements, namely Sonic Adventure.

Rosseen Glimmer for some reason an obvious plot seemed to make the game a lot better.... probably because of the castle because it didn’t seem possible for an individual to do it. This is my favourite game ever. I loved everything about the game since 2014. I had the PS1 version with the gun controller. I find the gun controller better. What about you. What would you rank it??

Time Crisis 3 does support the original gun con, that's the way I played it back in the day, Alicia's sniping sections are a pain though and I could never finish that mode (you have to shoot the arrows to look around)

I've been rocking the Time Crisis games literally since the very first game and love them so damn much. The first game being cheesy as hell with the voice acting but fun with all the action scenes. All the way up to the PS3 versions. On rail shooters are a dying genre for console gamers which sucks pretty bad. But if Namco busted out Time Crisis 5 with all the extras like they typically do for a home release and give us a proper Guncon 4 then I'd be all for it just like I have been the past 3 generations.

I'm with you. I have almost every major light gun game from the 32-bit era and up. I even have Elemental Gearbolt on PSone which is really cool but quite hard. Virtua Cop and House of the Dead was king up until Time Crisis came out for me. After that Time Crisis took the crown and hasn't been dethroned since. Sadly the PS3 and Wii era was the dying days for light gun games. I remember when the Guncon 3 came out I was really excited for a resurgence of rail gun shooters but after the release of TC4 nothing else came ever came out for it except for Razing Storm... Lol.

Love the cinematography of your series, really nice and clear. Keep goin' on!
Just got crises zone boxset and a second gun on order I'm super excited!
I used to plug in a controller into port two so I could use my big toe to hit the circle button, it made it like the arcade. I played this game every day from August 1998 (when I got it for my birthday) until I got House of the Dead 2 on my Dreamcast. 9/9/1999 was an amazing day.
They could’ve just let you use the D-pad on the second controller or let you move the Sniper Aiming Reticule by aiming the Guncon at the corners of the screen. That would’ve let Time Crisis 3 be playable on the original Guncon.
Amazing Production - this is the kind of Episode I would watch more than once!
Yes! Time Crisis is also my favourite. I get especially nostalgic over Time Crisis 1 and the first controller I had for it came with a foot-pedal and looked like Judge Dredd's gun. I forget who made it.
I fell in love with Time Crisis from the first moment I played it in the Arcade. Once I had money as a teenager i started collecting the home console versions and all the gcons to go along with them. The home console versions are great, but nothing beats the feeling of playing the arcade version, getting your best friend and playing the two-player mode and having each others backs. The foot pedal on the arcade version was so intuitive, and I remember that the guns on the Time Crisis 2 cabinets had the pistol slide that would actually pull back with serious force whenever you fired a shot. This is one of my favourite videos from you guys. Well done Coury.
This is probably my favorite episode yet. Very informative like always but since I love the Time Crisis series, it gives this episode the edge. I feel this is the best coverage of the Time Crisis series I've ever seen. I usually don't comment on any video but since you gave one of my favorite series well deserved justice I had to thank you. Keep up the great work and videos. I really enjoy all of them.

This video was freaking awesome! Thank you for making it! Loved hearing about the development the story, the hardware changes! Seriously a great video!
The first time I saw the hammer slide back during a shootout at the arcade, I said, that's the hardest pink and baby blue guns I ever saw.
Fantastic! I've really come to appreciate you guys videos. Interesting and well produced. Now I've got an urge to play some Time Crisis and I know just how fix that.
Just got a nostalgia wave for time crisis and found your channel. Subscribed
Time Crisis feels like a love from a past life. I remember playing the games down the arcade with my little brother, playing the PlayStation 1 games at a friends and eventually grabbing my own copies that quickly became the most played games on the system. TC2 was pretty much the reason I picked up the ps2. I remember first seeing the G-Con 2 in a pokey little store 30 miles away during a trip to Norwich... I had to have it. I'm pretty sure I own TC3 but for some reason just don't remember it =\ TC4 was OK... I never got the G-Con with mine... eventually it got patched to work with the move so that was my only way of playing it. I would love to get a TC2 arcade setup for my garage which the huge screens... never going to happen... but I can dream. Thanks for taking me back to the days when one if my favorite styles of games... was king of the arcade (at least at my locals)
I played Time Crisis 2 a lot with my brother in the arcades, it was so awesome, definitely one of my favorite on rail shooters. I like House of the Dead to, but Time Crisis has a very special place in my heart.
Great production on your videos. I just subscribed :) I liked how you explain everything really easy

I remember playing Crisis Zone in an arcade once, sadly I did not know what I was doing, as my only light gun experience was Virtua Cop 2, House of the Dead 2 and 3, something with dinosaurs by Sega and CryTek and the NES classics, so I lost. I wonder if the machine is still there, I want to give it another shot now that I know what it's about. Thank you very much for this awesome showcase!

Great work on this video Coury. I got parts 2-4 last night at a local game store. Only thing I wish I would have researched is the external cable that you need to play the game.
Thank-you for all your hard work.
Awesome video. Just discovered your channel. Great vids!
That Rising Storm Time Crisis game looks like it's timeCrisis crossed with Neo Contra...
Thanks for this video everything I needed to know . Was here
Another great video! As an enthusiast of arcade gun games I really appreciate it :-)
I solved the foot pedal issue in a roundabout way. I love my Namco Guncon 2, and I also acquired a third-party Logic 3 P99K Light Blaster with a foot pedal. The gun itself was excrement, but I saved the foot pedal, took apart my Guncon, and wired it into the front red buttons with the wire coming out the bottom of the grip. Wonderful! If you play on carpet, it helps to put a board underneath for positive pedal action.
one of my favorite genre, I had so much fun with this series, and other GunCon games. If you never played it, Elemental Gearbot on the PS1 is awesome with the GunCon. its a reason to keep CRTs around :)

That deluxe edition it came with was crazy. Silver metal suitcade with a golden light gun. Crazy expensive in the aftermarket.
I remember playing the spin off game in this series at the arcade. Crisis Zone.
The Guncon 3 deserves way more credit than it gets, it's accuracy is amazing. It's features and quality of games are the best the series has to offer. Even the FPS mode is not nearly as bad as people say. I think it's just they are so dam good at making arcade shooters that other modes can't live up to it.
I miss Time Crisis 2 in the arcade.. I was able to play through on just one credit... Sometimes not even losing a life!
That was the main problem with TC1, bullets that hit you were unmarked. So it was impossible to dodge. You just had to be fast. TC2 Arcade was also MUCH harder than the PS2 version, most notably due to the decrease in graphics (bullets are a bit harder to spot) but also, Wild Dog's bullets didn't give out a pulse when they were about to hit you. Also, Alan and Wesley were the best :D
I got to play 5 at Dave and Busters in NYC. It was kinda hard to get used to the two foot peddles. I made it up to the first boss and died. I would have continued but the price to play one game is really expensive. I really wish Sega would have shown the same love for Virtua Cop like Namco does with Time Crisis. Virtua Cop 3 is one of my personal favorites but it seems like it'll never make it to a console.
One of the best game related show on KZread. Cheers Guys.
This plus the Point Blank series is all you'll ever need for your light gun and trusty CRT.
Evan's hair is still cool.
Guys this video was Rank S+++! Thanks for Time Crisis nostalgia ;D
Awesome Vid man
Good retrospective. I played Crisis Zone back in 2001 at an arcade. Great experience using the machine gun, the feedback on it was crazy although probably less so than in real life. I know you don't like the FPS segments of the newer games but going forward to evolve the series that probably is the way forward in having it off the rails.
The Time Crisis games were awesome. Another great lightgun game made by Namco was Point blank.
Hey great information , i love the light gun games, ps1 , 2, and 3
Holy crap!! THANK YOU for the tip about using the G-Con 2 pass thru with PS 2 running component.
17:30 she rips off her shirt to reveal even more clothes than can be plausibly be concealed by her previous outfit
what an awesome documentary and only 60k views... what a shame
We had a Time Crisis II Machine in the arcade near me, my old local hangout, but there was only one gun. They took it away, and replaced it with a Raising Storm one, which I never knew had anything to do with Time Crisis until now. They took that away too. Now there's some stupid Emoticon claw machine there.
Great review! Time crisis is one of the greats of gaming, it's a shame we've lost the light gun genre.
Love this series, just went through Time Crisis 5:Mastermind Edition the other day, probably my favorite one
damn, talk about a nostalgia trip. Pretty sure the original Time Crisis was the very first game I ever played along with Gran Turismo on the PS1. None of my friends really knew about it since it wasn't really popularized as much in the States, but it was so much fun
I found light gun games are a very underrated they haven't gotten too high in cost if you look in the right places
I'd love to see ports of this series to PSVR with support for Move and the Aim controller.
Your intro alone got my sub!
I remember being insanely excited as a kid when time crisis 2 with the guncon came out for ps2! I had already played it in the arcade and it was me favorite game in the arcade. I'd look for a time crisis game if I was in an arcade lol. I played the hell out of time crisis 2 and 3 on ps2. With the story mode in 3 just being such an awesome experience.
I just played time crisis 3 at an arcade in holland Michigan called lost city, much nostalgia!
I really miss the light gun games
Got a lot of fond memories of playing the first game on my PS1 with my controller on the floor for a pedal. Was real into lightgun games back then. Even liked stuff like Area 51 and Lethal Enforcers which have been kinda pushed aside other the years.
The first and only time I have ever played (or had the chance to play) a Time Crisis game is when I went to DC and found a TC3 cabinet in the corner of the place. Never got past the helicopter machine gun guy.
The madcatz light gun is awesome on the ps1 and ps2 l love it thanks for the awesome video.
Stellar production quality, as usual. Not gonna lie though, I'm disappointed the Move controller wasn't properly tested and explained. Especially now that we have PSVR, the sharpshooter, that aim controller, etc. 🤔 I think another episode exploring those options might be great 👍

PS2's _End Game_ lightgun game (speaking for NTSC-U/C) has 16_:_9 aspect ratio support in the game's menu but haven't yet used the lightgun for it on my 4_:_3 CRT set to its widescreen ratio mode. The angle for the field of view _does increase_ , IIRC. 👍 Also, IIRC, none of the beautiful 16_:_9 ratio tube CRT TV's will work with light guns - needs to be of certain models within the 4_:_3 CRT tube hardware (some of the 4_:_3 CRT's are not lightgun-friendly if they have certain specifications or advertised features)

the blowback on the gun controllers there feels like heaven I swear
Time Crisis series, House of the Dead series, Virtua Cop series, Confidential Mission, Carnevil, Jurassic Park: The Lost World and Silent Scope were some of the best examples of the light gun genre. Great retrospective gentleman.
I own a copy of Time Crisis 2 for the PS2 (Just got it for Christmas), but I haven't played it yet due to me currently not owning a Guncon 2. However, my local arcade has a Time Crisis 4 machine, which quickly became my favorite arcade game and also introduced me to the Time Crisis franchise. I play it every time I visit. (Also, recently the arcade got a Time Crisis 5 machine, which really is freaking awesome. Time Crisis 4 is still my favorite, however.) If I get a PS3 anytime soon, I'll definitely look into that compilation pack with Time Crisis 4 in it.
Thank you I appreciated your video 👍🏼👍🏼
There is another great way to get a good foot pedal on the PS1. Just use one of the steering wheels for driving games on the second port. The foot pedals use the same button layout. What about dancing mats? might be also a solution. Great video, makes me wanna play TC again.
I use to love time crisis, but did not have a light gun...those memories 😏
Wild Dog's durability shares to the T-800 can survive explosion
Great review!!
Great video, Corey. I love lightgun shooters, but being a SEGA fanboy, always stuck with SEGA lightgun games. I've only just got into the original Time Crisis and am really enjoying it. Your video helped me to see I need to check out the rest of the series. Thanks for recommending the Razing Storm collection. I hate war-based shooters, but the arcade mode in Razing Storm is actually pretty fun despite the godawful, generic dialogue and lack of character. Time Crisis 4 is great fun and Deadstorm Pirates is easily the best game in the collection, with that zaniness that's usually characteristic of SEGA lightgun games.
great Video.
Man i love light gun games but i never got into them that much on home consoles, always played them on the arcades. Time Crisis is definitely the series i think about the most in this genre even though i got into every game i saw in arcades, i got pretty good at some of them and even attracted a crowd sometimes, like one time in Crisis Zone i lost for the first time near the end and some dude gave me a coin so i could continue playing lol.
That's some comprehensive coverage, thanks and very nice. Also, based on what you were saying about the green lead in the component hookup, I really didn't need to buy a Sony SCPH-1160 so that I can use my component hookup on my BVM? Rats, just bought one. I bought it to use a Guncon for the first time as I have been very disappointed in how jumpy the reticle is (and therefore inaccurate) for my Sega Stunner, Justifier, Cobra lightgun and Dreamcast lightgun (japanese) for Virtua Cop, Death Crimson OX, House of the Dead, etc... Does anyone else have a problem with the reticle jumping around on the initial entry screen for those games? No matter where I put the brightness and contrast and how clean the gun is, ambient lighting, etc. they just never seem to "settle down". anyway, rant over, thanks for the video and glad you posted it.

+DaveB038 [Coury] For whats its worth, I got myself a 1160 just out of convenience. On the topic of jumpiness, I've found that the GunCon1 for some reason holds a lot more rock solid than the 2. You don't get as much jumpiness. On a side note, I'm not sure if this matters or not, but someone told me this morning that there is a difference between the GunCon 2s made in China and the ones made in Japan. The Japanese ones are better, I guess. Maybe that would solve the issue. Its something that I'm definitely going to investigate.
