Time capsule hidden beneath Robert E. Lee statue opened

A time capsule, more than a century old, was opened after it was discovered beneath a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia. CBS News' Courtney Kealy has more on what was found inside.

Between the crybabies crying over dislikes saying their feelings are hurt and the little kids who can't stand the fact that not everyone likes the same thing so they point out and attack the amount of dislikes by saying things like x amount of unamericans disapprove are the reason why YT has removed the dislikes. Spoiled useless little brats had to ruin something harmless. Infact something useful because that function regardless of comments being active or not was a big help to some KZreadrs. They could compare their contents by the likes and dislikes to further help them understand what works and revolve their videos around that.

What is the expiration date on a bottle of water for? Seems like the same thing. I think historians have to always assign some sort of identity to these things. They cannot objectively look at and realize that this was just a snapshot of what was happening at the time. This is just what the monument makers thought was interesting at the time and not an attempt to erase history like the removal of statues. In fact it preserved a bit of history. We need to stop removing things by which we are offended. These statues are not a celebration of things that offend but they are a reminder of what happened. So we don't do these things again.

I don’t believe these statues should be destroyed but rather relocated to a museum, historic battlefield, or in this case Lee’s home in Virginia. I can see why many of these statues of confederate generals are a symbol of pain for those who descended from people living in bondage and I get it. But destroying the statues is wrong as it is a part of history that can never be recreated. Moving them to historical sites is the best option.

What it has done for the people who wanted it taken down, as well as the people who did not, gives America peace to know that we do not negotiate with terrorists and we do not honor individuals who capitalize on the lives of others. We fled and revolutionized freedom from the corruption of a king took from everyone for wealth and riches and was able to do this because of tyranny. That is not a historical figure from a great war and a great military or a great leader. Such a small population of the country the 5% of the South needed to remember what their right to engage in a capitalist venture in the name of building American Gold means. To this day you are not allowed to capitalize on the lives of other human beings and this includes slavery and apartheid. We will not purchase things manufactured by slaves and we certainly aren't supposed to be engaging that behavior on a scale that is infamous. And we need to remember no matter where we're from what our roots are it was one of the greatest times in American history because we put our money where our mouth was and we prevailed. Nobody ever discusses what would have happened if the Confederate States of America were able to succeed with a plagiarized US Constitution with such a small population. the allies of America that were very important for the strength and the partnership and the growth and the becoming would not have tolerated it because they were running from the same thing. We would have been very weak. we would have assumed that our trade overseas would buy us our spot. And we would have been dead wrong. We no longer should deitize Southern terrorists malicious then we should digitize Adolf Hitler or Saddam Hussein. You tear that down and you write them out of History because if you can't be famous, infamy is preferred by the likes of that mindset. An Americans need to understand that there were so many reasons that we couldn't enslave people anymore in order to be a part of a global community and freeing the slaves was just one part of why the civil war took place. Why it really took place is you don't get to have all the golden America with no overhead and doing nothing for the common good or growth. they're ridiculous notions of not bridging Rivers for West access and so many more issues made them small-minded and they preferred to keep their America within a very small area of what is now considered the United States. Now I am a white woman in her mid fifties and regardless of how I feel about all of the horrific history of the civil war. It just doesn't represent freeing blacks and Asians and Irishmen and whoever were enslaved it means that after the revolution in a country not even 100 years strong was still able to overcome. We fought for our freedom and we earned it and we will continue to do this. And by the way we do not combine church and state for the simple reason of the many thousands of Christian and other faiths in this country. A church divided is not a church which means whoever your morals guide you or what religion you practice or if you don't practice religion at all it has no business dictating the morality of slavery and war.

But because of this we have lost the real history and it shows today. The internet is our friend for leaning but one can not just take the first site, so one has to study to learn the true history. Example do you really believe the story of Hudson? That he and his friend just rolled away in a boat, never to be seen again? Like I said study and you will find the answers.

its more about pushing a narrative than scaring kids. the winners generally write history and claim that the losers were fighting for an unjust cause. this is why the common belief is that the confederates were solely fighting to maintain african slavery etc. its more likely the north's reason for abolishing slavery was to create more allies, and the south considered slavery among the many freedom of property rights that were under threat. what i read was that "subsistence farming" was completely abolished after the civil war. so the south was fighting for the freedom to live off the land without paying taxes for services that don't even effect them. america was originally a place where a commoner could come and not be subjected to any lords and mind their own business

I find it funny that that’s the behavior they project liberals to behave in within conservative media. Funny how reality turns the tables

its not history when the statue is right in the town square or in front of the courthouse. Thats a real reminder to blacks TODAY that Jim Crow existed and may not be totally gone yet. Mississippi and Tenessee have court deliberating rooms decorated by the daughters of the Confederacy! Its the message of Confederates controlling blacks for a 100 years after they lost. And in little corners and in back rooms the discussions still happen. Its not history if it is still going on today
