Eh. The author of the book The Neverending Story hates the 3 movies. He sued to try to make them change the name or stop production. He lost the case. So, the movie wasn't original and pissed of the dude the created the story. The 1980 Flash Gordon was the 4th official Flash Gordon movie based on the old comics. So, it was a remake of sequel of someone else's old shit. Legend was the only movie you mentioned that actually was original. Hollywood has always either done direct remakes, sequels, or redone storylines. Our sense of nostalgia makes us forget that.

If I was him, I wouldn't attempt to remake Time Bandits, Brazil, or any Terry Gilliam film. Also, for a kids' film, Time Bandits was deeply unsettling to me as a child, especially the ending. No matter who makes it, and who's involved, you can't improve upon Terry Gilliam's films. I'm not sure i even like Time Bandits, but it was wonderful. Maybe wait another 100 years, and make an immersive VR game of Time Bandits. I'm not saying this movie won't be good, it might be amazing, but it won't be Gilliam. Terry was tapped into something deep in the unconscience, surreal and absurd, but meaningful.

@@Abaddon231 Since it's a show, I'm not sure what metrics they'll use for success. How do you know it was written by AI. I see writing credits for Jermaine Clements and Iain Morris, among others. I doubt those 2 will just use AI when they're known for their writing.

For God's sake, Gilliam is not only still alive, but he's working on a new film: _In June 2024, Gilliam announced the making of a new film called The Carnival at the End of Days. It will star Depp, reuniting with Gilliam, along with Bridges, Driver, and Jason Momoa. The production of the film is expected to begin in January 2025 according to Gilliam. _*_Johnny Depp will play Satan, and Jeff Bridges will play God_*_ in that film._ Which sounds far more interesting than this re-hash.

Unfortunately, the studio owns the copyright not him. If you know anything about Gilliam, you'll know why he's said he doesn't like this version of his story.

The first movie, the original can never be outdone. I remember the first time seeing it, so I added it to my prime account. Hollywood really knows how to ruin something great. Some movies should be left alone. Much love and respect fam

ugh.. i loved the original.. this seems to have missed its mark with me. to cheeky for me but will still check it out.

The original movie is an absolute classic, and I still own my VHS copy. I can't tell if this is supposed to be a sequel or a remake, or a little of both. I'll wait for all of the episodes to drop, then use that 1 month free Apple TV trial I have waiting. There's no way it's going to be even close to as good as the movie, but at least I won't be paying for it.

Now I have to watch the original and wash it down with a big old glass of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen just to get the taste of this out of my mouth.

David Rappaport, John Cleese, Iam Holm, Michael Palin, Sean Connery.... those were the days! I've been a longtime Gilliam fan- zany, poignant, satirical, creative, all those good things. This trailer just feels cheap in multiple ways; it feels hollow (edit-) and lifeless. The original Time Bandits had a weird, silly, but deep sense of humor and my gosh, some actual philosophical exploration of the nature of good and evil, etc. How long are film makers going to try to capitalize on nostalgia (I feel like we're living in the Wathcmen graphic novel). Why not take a risk (like Gilliam) and make something original even if people don't like it?

This isn't my Time Bandits but ill give it a go. I like a good goofy comedy sometimes.
