Hello sir, Could you please explain me an apt method to solve the below question without using equations (probably by LCM method) Q. An engineer undertakes a project to build a road 15 km long in 300 days and employs 45 men for the purpose. After 100 days, he finds only 2.5 km of the road has been completed. Find the approx number of extra men he must employ to finish the work in time. a. 43 b. 45 c. 55 d. 68

is the answer 68? if yes then you can do it by below way. 15000 M road was to be built in 300 days by 45 men. after 100 days, they could build 2500 m. so per day/per man work is 2500/(45*100)= 5/9 units. so remaining work needs to be finished in 200 days. which is (12500/200) = 125/2 units. one man does 5/9 units so 125/2 units will be done by 112.5. Since number of humans cant be in decimals so we'll take it as 113. we already have 45 men so additional is 68. if it is wrong, kindly suggest the correct way and answer.

@@buddy9466 Thanks Sachin. Your answer is correct. You applied an easy method! I solved it in the following manner: Number of man-days for 2.5kms = 4500 man-days Therefore, for 1km = 1800 man-days Similarly, for 12.5 kms = 22500 man-days (work remaining) No of men required = 22500/200(days remaining) = 112.5 men = 113 men (approx) Hence, extra men required = 113 - 45 = 68

@@buddy9466 very nicely solved. Taking 45 men as one single entity initially to calculate total units of work (Road built / number of days) and then dividing it by 45 to get efficiency of each man- was the highlight of this solution. Thank you for introducing this approach to me.

we can just add ..... per day effiency and add them together like ...A+B+C = 1/12 + 1/20 + 1/40 = 19/120,flip the answer..its 120/19.

Is this correct way to do Last question ???? 105 are total units And p+q efficiency per day is 12 If we divide 105 by 12 we get 8.75 days And remaining 5.25 are of P doing work alone

A has left. B is working alone after 2 days. So the work after 2 days is being done by B alone. So divide the remaining work by just B's efficiency.

Hi sir, I think there is a mistake in the last question's answer. 5 days= how many days P worked for but we have to calculate after how many days P joined Q so that should be 14-5=9 days. Other approach for this could be 5t+12(14-t)=105 => t=9 days Also, thanks a lot for this video series. It's the best quant content for CAT out there. It's so kind of you to share all this for free.

he has already calculated the amount of work done by Q in 14 days. That will not change since his each day efficiency remains the same. So the remaining "amount of work" was done by P.

Last question: Seems incorrect Total work: LCM of 15 and 21= 105 units effieciency of of P=7 UPD Efficiency of Q=5 UPD Efficiency of P and Q in one day=12 Both p and q worked for 14 days to finish in last : 12*14 =168U, which is more than the actual work 105 units

Assuming, Q worked (initially)= x days Q+P worked (remaining) = y days Together they finished in = 14 days. So P and Q did not work together entirely for 14 days. We cannot add efficiency of P and Q (12 units) here. That's why he explains that Q alone worked all 14 days.

From next time, try reading the question carefully before proving someone wrong. Both of them DID NOT work for all the 14 days, both worked for some days and then one left. That's the first thing you could understand after reading the question.
