Time Alone With You- Jacob Collier and Daniel Caesar (Transcription)

Музыка

Full transcription of Jacob Collier and Daniel Caesar's new song "Time Alone With You".
IMPORTANT: This is a transcription of the original version of the song, not the music video version, as this was completed before the music video was released.
Notes on various things:
The bass in this song often uses an octave pedal or some sort of octave-manipulating device which makes it much more difficult to tell the octave of the notes. I am confident in all of the notes but there is a chance the octave may be off at some points. The drumset groove is very wonky and contains all sorts of microbeat subdivisions which are very hard to notate, so I just put it in septuplet swing for most of it.
Corrections:
m44: there should also be the notes Eb C Eb C Eb F on the words "teach me how to love ya" (each note corresponds with one word)
m58: the melody notes should be A natural and E natural rather than Ab and Eb on the words "is" and "don't"

Well first of all, it just sounded kind of steeper than 5s, but also if it were in fives, the spoken word "four" should line up with the hihat hit but it didn't, as it was a little before it.

I used to listen to Jacob Collier but I don’t really care to listen to his music too often. Just not my jam. Which is cool, I still totally respect him. But listening to his recent stuff I can see how he’s become so popular- all of his genius is wrapped up into a package that, here, is presented as a mix of 80’s sounds and 90’s RnB/Hip Hop, two decades whose music, fashion, and pop culture are extremely popular right now. Like really, the orchestrational technique reminds me very much of 90’s rnb groups and the groove doesn’t hurt.

For $1-2 you can get a pdf/midi file of a singular part of any transcription or original song and for $3-4 you can get a pdf/midi file of any entire transcription or original song. Here is the link: www.patreon.com/jasonfieler Any amount of money donated, including $0, is greatly appreciated.

This isn't the way I do it, but it definitely works to use a software to put a certain chord on repeat, as in, just loop the region with the chord and use an instrument to play different notes and hear which ones sound like they match the chord you're listening to.

Well the idea of a transcription video is to be able to listen to the original while simultaneously viewing what should be the music for it. Also, if my version were played, it would not sound exactly like the original no matter how correct it is because it's all mixed differently, and the original has different human inflections in voice and instrument performance that can't really be replicated in a midi notation software. Jacob puts lots of notes in the song that are buried in the mix, so if it's notated correctly, in theory it should sound a bit off, but that would be weird to put in a video if it's incorrect intentionally. I hope that helps

On a real though, how do you actually make these? I've got perfect pitch and a lot of the bass notes or obviously the crazy dense chords are super super hard to identify each individual note on them, so HOW?!? is there a piece of software or something or do you literally listen to it 1000s of times to check every single chord?

I wouldn't say 1000s of times, but I use ableton live to listen to chords repeatedly and almost each time it repeats, I'll add a new note that's in it

Transcribe a collier song with no arrangement reference... then see if you make mistakes. Or at least be more polite when you point them out. You need to earn the right to be rude XD. This guy worked INSANELY hard on this. The least you can do is be polite.
