@@DrGuy118nah, he had the Timberlake album around the same time, and Shock Value had a lot of fire beats-I think I preferred that one over the the Timberlake and Furtado albums, just for the variety if nothing else. He was addicted to pain killers (OxyContin, I believe) shortly after that and almost died. So he lost a lot of time because of that, had to regain his health and sobriety, and then music changed to cutesy, teen tik tok trap music that all sounds like it was made by the same guy or A.I. bot. The guy still has a lot of knowledge, though. I would bet that he’ll still find a way to come out with something dope before it’s all said and done. I think he has one more classic in him, he’s just waiting for the right time and project.
I’ve been in this type of situation before. You tend to present your worst beats when the time comes to present something to the pros in the industries. And also one thing, we producers, the beat we like is usually the worst of all the beats we do. I don’t know why it’s always like that. The beat I don’t love among my beats and music in general is what people around me tend to move their body to. I totally understand what ocean was facing at this point
I love you ocean. I learned practically everything on logic from you and you’ve got pretty dope sounds that would have blow Timbo away. The world gonna recognize your great talent soon enough and great coaching by a mentor and icon timbs love❤
Respect to you and your grinding bro! Im always super honest even doe it might hurt its better to be honest. The problem with these beats you showed are that they are not unique, you are doing what has been done for 10 years or more. I think i almost recocginze all the drum sounds, and just starting there, record / pitch / combine your own drum sounds, or dig and find your own samples, otherwise you sound like 97% of all the beatmakers out there. There is to much of everything everywhere on the word wide web and to make good stuff one have to be unique, simply just being 100% yourself. Fins inspiration somewhere else than the music your going to make, travel, I dont know, hehe your own roots dig there. THere are milions of ways to explore and find a unique own sound. Avoid the comercial sample stations!!! God bless u bro, love your grind! big RESPECT

It's always great to get feedback from a friend or fellow producer... it's even better that it was Timbo helping you out. Now I'm second guessing MY tag. lol I kinda ran into something similar while tryna make a reggaeton beat... where it sounded it good but something was missing cuz it just felt like I was tryna mesh two different genres. Add a lil percussion and speeding up the melody a little might help. Or like Timbaland said, try a different one. He's right though... you're getting there and that's dope. Keep doing big things Ocean.
Wow man he really put things in perspective. Everybody need to work things out. Sometimes it hurts to hear the truth, but if you put that behind yourself and really dig in and start experimenting it will change everything you do. I am going through this same thing and have been for a few years. I had to rework my melodies and drums. I use Ableton and the Akai Force to produce. So I had to rethink my workflow a little and come up with a smoother way for me to make less generic sounding stuff. It's not perfect, but I'm getting closer to finding my sound.
It's funny how we are judged by the pros, lol but this is art, you are actually seeking many opinions. Not from one person. Most people who listen to music just enjoy it. Those beats are 🔥and depends on who sing or rap on them that makes the hit song.

My Guy Ocean is Dope. Being able to Handle both Constructive criticism and Subjective input is the fuel that u need for the fire to burn Cancel
Well the truth is bitter, the GOAT was right. If he'd played the beat for like small producers we'd be like 🔥🔥😤.
I’ve been watching you since I started producing two years ago! You’re an amazing producer and I’m excited to continue to see your journey and growth. I love the feedback TIMBALANDD gave cause that’s the only way we get even better. I do feel like you have better beats tho 😅 flowers to you Ocean, sending love from nyc 🔥

@@garysyoutube T*m is an amazing artist... I just feel that a few comments he made, he had no right to make... Other than that, he is a stellar producer.
Keep doing your thing, Ocean. I think you’re beats are sick even though I’m an underground conscious hip-hop head who likes Boom Bap and can’t stand drill and trap. Reggaeton is awesome though. Me gusta reggaeton mi amigo. It’s very competitive in general. You’re doing very well though!
Respect to you Ocean for letting Timbo hear your beats. That’s how you get better man. Wish you nothing but success in 2023.
3:47 i don’t think it‘s too „cinematic“ or not even „outdated“ as Timbaland says. @ocean just check out the German rapper LUCIANO with his newest album „MAJESTIC“. this is definitely a beat that he‘d rocked and also nearly all beats from this album are like yours. I love it bro!
"I dont hear no song over it" alot of beat makers tend to forget that 🔑

Exactly they get lost in making cool noise that nobody can make songs on. I'm shocked ocean only played trash beats on this. He has way better stuff
Damn well i respect him keeping it real and explaining things and how to make each track better. You gonna switch to FL or ableton or you already too deep and comfortable in Logic? Never used Logic but i know some of favorite producers do like Backwhen and Marsh
love wht u do ocean keep it up

Nah the drill beat was on point - it’s all about who you work with for one like that
The best about this is that you shared it with us. True!
Bro this is intense man lol Ngl Ocean I’ve heard you make wavier beats than what you showed Timbo man!?! Wagwan?!
Do you think that part of this is that you and Timbaland have very different styles? I’m surprised at the selection you played him vs the other beats you’ve put up on your videos in the past that I think would have resonated with him more.
Goat for getting the Timbaland collab
You know what even having timberland roast your beats is a level most people will never get to keep going bro I’ll see you at the top
Ocean my G! The patience and how he kept his cool as his beats were being criticised.... True master .... Patience is key
Keep doing what your doing Ocean. Take Timbaland’s advice and apply it to Logic. Let this experience guide you to become a better producer!
To my ear, I see a career in sync and film music with Ocean. Everyone has a niche.

fax i feel like his beats are a bit too conventional for rap songs today at least, not to take anything away from him though.
Ocean did awesome on his beats. An that was awesome how he got trained or coach from another professional. Love the video. 1:26
I learnt so much from this. Thank you for your willingness to have him critique your beats. I can now see all the areas where I need to improve myself. It really is a process.
Ik ocean was crushed when Timb said to take his tag out 😭

This is dope as hell but I think you for sure have better beats lol But I guess the point wasn't to impress him but to get meaningful feedback on your weaker areas. Shout out to you my boi!
Respect for putting this up man. Heed Timbo’s advice! Dude is the OG for a reason. You’re already great at what you do, but you’re gonna evolve even more now. That being said, can’t lie when I say this is motivating me to pick up Ableton as well since I’m starting to incorporate more FL into my workflow

I think these advices are super boost for your career. Good luck!
I feel like you’ve made way better beats then the ones shown in the video.
It's all a matter of opinion. Timbaland can say "oh you need to keep it simple" but then go listen to his beat from "Ayo Technology" 50 Cent Feat. Justin Timberlake. It's like, he's critiquing because he's supposed to. Because if someone like Metro Boomin played him these exact beats he would be nodding his head like crazy saying how fire they are. Of course, it's Timbaland and his opinion is very valued in the field. But like I said he has to critique because Ocean is up and coming and he's a legend, I get it. But like I said if an established mainstream famous producer played these same beats he'd be singing their praises. So it's hard for me to really value his opinion too much.
Only gana make you better bro like the honesty tho keep going bless up
I smiled and was so happy every time Timbo was like, "You got another beat?"

would be great to get a follow up video and share your thoughts on what Timbo said if in anyway thing it changes your approach when producing. also would have been great if you pushed him on what his beef with logic is?
it must feel great to have somebody like timbaland to listen and give feedback about your music. I been watching your vids since 2019, I no longer use logic but you taught me the basics of producing! forever grateful

Ocean said let me pick my most ass beats to show this man
I remember when I sent my first beat to Timbo, he's being honest. and as much as we want to be creative and use what ever sound we want to use; sometimes we walk all over the idea that maybe the sound doesn't fit or the melody. When I hear "the melody doesn't fit, the first thing I think of is" the track is lacking syncopation. Keep rockin 🙌🏾
He knows so much about music bro he is the master 🙌 🙏 God bless you both ocean 🙏
