No in the final scene it is his son he is taking fishing 8 years later, his wife presumably died giving birth to the son.

If you watch the original song by "Craig J. Martin Music" (search this in KZread - and go to VIDEOS), he explains the entire song. She DID NOT die - and Cheyanne is correct. Search it on KZread, it's better in my opinion than this version. He also has originals on there as well. He passed away last June - RIP.

It's a cry song. There are things that stir tears, deep emotion. This is one.

This song always made my husband cry bc he couldn’t imagine anything worse. He died in October; and there is nothing worse

I love classic country. Modern stuff like this I’m usually not a big fan of, but the writing in this song, the way the story is constructed in the three phases of their lives, and the actual writing of each verse is truly under appreciated I feel. It epitomizes what is so great about so much country music... storytelling.

Sometimes you have to know when NOT to pause a video. See, you weren't even paying attention to the video. The woman running toward them with a picnic basket was the mother.

This song means a lot to me I. A different way. I am the only girl with two older brothers and yes I am the youngest. I am a big daddy's girl. Well I was 17 when I had my oldest daughter. The day I gave birth to my oldest my parents were at my cousin's funeral and he was my dad's favorite nephew, well once they laid him to rest in the ground my dad got a call from the hospital saying we need you up here asap for a signature to do an emergency c-section because your daughters heart stopped and when he got into the vehicle he had the radio on and this song was playing and he was praying don't take his baby girl. My dad passed away 3 years ago on December 30th.

Tim McGraw's video didn't do a good enough job at the end of showing that the wife made it, and then you get distracted by the next song request popping up. You think it's over and are so saddened by the song that you don't notice that was her running at the end, and it was Johnny and his son fishing, not Johnny and his daddy like at the beginning. You need to make sure your sweet Raelynn ends up with a guy like Johnny, so if they ever get ACOSTED (you had me rollin) he will do the right thing.
