    The show and both of them is mesmerising. Matt and Jonathan have amazing chemistry. Their love story portrayed what would have been common at the time due to society and the political pressures that were thrust upon gay men and women 😢 Regardless, looking at both Tim and Hawk, through everything, their love changed them both in their own ways but in one common way: Hawk and Tim finally got to know and feel what it was like to have feelings and love for someone rather than casual, emotionless hook-ups (Hawk) or out of spiritual devotion and duty to God (Tim). If only they could have had it all - true happiness. It’s Hawk’s fault that they couldn’t 💔 This video captures all of that, thank you.

    it wasn’t completely hawk’s fault that they couldn’t, yes his decisions is what lead to them not having the life they both truly desired but society and his upbringing/unresolved trauma is what lead to them not being happy together.

    @@rach2755 That is true. I forgot to put that down, I’ve mentioned those points on other videos, particularly Hawk’s upbringing and trauma by his dad. Regardless, Hawk kept going back to Tim and showing him affection out of guilt and shame when Tim kept reminding him of the choices he’d made; how he had a family and being around and helping him was letting his family down. I just feel that most of the blame falls on Hawk, particularly because as we saw in the last episode: in the 50s, he ratted Tim out and kept him from getting the job with the government; Hawk was trying to maintain his image and do right by Lucy when she was pregnant and gave birth to Jackson. Had Hawk not ratted him out, everything Tim was going through in episode 6, in Seminary and facing jail time would have likely never happened. Again, Hawk was protecting him and trying to help out of the guilt and shame of his actions and how they affected him.

  • @rach2755

    @rach2755

    @@knowledgegathererdraftsave1979 I agree with everything for the most part but Tim has had religious turmoil before Hawk, but we won’t know for sure, if he would have or wouldn’t have had religious turmoil after the 1957 situation still. Tim going to jail in the 60s has nothing to do with Hawk in my opinion, Tim is a passionate guy and would have found ways to protest against the war whether or not Hawk had betrayed him in the last episode. Hawk did try to keep out of jail, I believe that was his way of “trying” to make it up to Tim (out of guilt like you’ve said) but Tim would never rat out his friends unlike Hawk who is capable of that. I think aside of guilt in the finale, I think Hawk’s way of trying to help Tim was also out of fear of losing him and wanting to be with him before he died because he knows he’d never get another opportunity, despite being distanced for most of their romance, Hawk could live with Tim being alive and well somewhere. However, Hawk knowing Tim is dying means he’d get to live in a world where Tim is no longer there physically and that terrified him. So yeah, he’s basically making it up to Tim but also giving himself and Tim the pleasure of enjoying time together as a “unofficial” couple before Tim is truly gone. A tragedy honestly.

    As much as it is one of the best stories I have ever enjoyed and it has broken my heart, I will never forgive Hawk for taking away Tim's peaceful life, for the unnecessary pain and suffering he caused him, for not allowing him to meet another person who loved fully, deprived him of the job he wanted; Hawk was selfish, narcissistic and he only wanted him meek, obedient, without aspirations waiting for him in a room to be with him for a moment... Tim had an immeasurable love for him and he didn't know how to value it and it was too late when he realized, he couldn't tell him in life that he loved him... This show broke me, I cried so much, everything they went through breaks my heart, If Hawk really loved him, he shouldn't have allowed everything he did to him, he saved his life so many times and until the end I always loved him... I hate the author for making us cry like this. Mat and Jonathan are incredible, the funniest thing is that we are sad and they are very happy in the interviews and red carpets ♥️

    So here's the thing about Hawk that SO many people seem to overlook: He had already had an experience of giving himself over to love before, and how did that end? With him mostly disowned from his family, traumatized from war, and the person he'd loved dead and him feeling responsible for it. And it wasn't like that was a unique experience in a world that was generally kinder than that; he was constantly surrounded by nothing but reminders of how much that was the norm. It's very easy to judge Hawk from a 2024 perspective, but it's crucial to understand that, from his perspective, it was never just a fear of IF things could end in disaster, it was a deep seeded belief that it was inevitable they WOULD. And I don't think he was nearly as afraid of what would happen to him when it all came crashing down as he was at the thought that, once again, it would be Tim who would end up paying the price for loving him. I just can't comprehend how anyone could see Matt's performance and think it was a matter of him not loving Tim enough; practically half the show is Hawk looking at him like the entire world could burn around them and he wouldn't give a damn as long as he could bask in Tim's presence! Like, for as deeply as Tim loved Hawk, I truly do think Hawk fell even harder and faster. That man was down SO eternally bad from the moment he laid eyes on him. And that's the point: it was never about him operating out of selfish ambition or narcissism, it was him feeling like: "every moment I allow myself to give into this love and let myself be this deliriously happy, is a moment closer to the point where I'm going to get him completely destroyed." And yes, it was a self fulfilling prophecy - it was his very fear of getting Tim hurt that caused him to blow things up and hurt him in doing so - but again, in his mind, the consequences if he didn't cut it off and hurt him preemptively were inevitably going to be so, SO much worse. So no, he was never some narcissist screwing Tim over to get what he wanted. Maybe he achieved what he'd *said* he wanted, the plan he'd laid out for himself, but from the moment he met him, all he actually wanted was to be with Tim. When people, and even the other characters in the show, harp on how Hawk had "denied Tim the ability to have love with anyone else", all it does is make me sad, because... he was denying himself the exact same thing! He didn't do it because he WANTED to, he did it because he truly did not believe he had another choice. Also, it's funny you say he wanted him meek and obedient, because in fact I think so much of what Hawk loved about Tim WAS the fact that he would challenge him; that he wouldn't accept the walls he'd so carefully put up and would call him on being anything less than his most authentic and kind self. Hawk had been so deeply burned by the world, and Tim was the person who gave him hope in it again. Tim was *never* just some object of convenience or outlet for his sexual desires, not even close.

I want to see it in movies, TV, and other media. I want the truth to be told! We can live happily ever after! Not be pigeonholed in the endless well directed, well acted, variations of love ending tragically to satisfy some sick straight fantasy that in the end we will be punished for daring to love the same sex so much!

    I guess I must be in the not so norm category. I HATED this show! I love Matt baumer!!! But this was just awful. Hawk was a selfish bastard who refused to get his shit together, and lost his only true love and a son to his selfish BS! I also hated the message this show put out! That as gay men, the only things we are to have in this life are FEAR, SHAME, GUILT, and most lastly, DEATH! For the younger generation this show is good for educational purposes, even though I think POSE did a way better job at that! The younger generation doesn’t care though. They don’t care about our history and what we went through to get us where we are today. That is clearly represented, in an episode of Will & Grace where Will dates a much younger guy than himself. Skippy deserved so much better! I also knew someone like Hawk. He was the love of my life. He was just like Hawk, trying so desperately to be “normal”. To have a wife and kids, and try to also be with me. I stayed with him for 15 long ass years despite everything he put me through. He’s dead now though, because of all his selfish acts. Been gone 8-9 years now. I miss him everyday. Despite my sour memories. No one will ever compare to him. I have been through this hell. Another reason I hated this show. Hit all a little too close to home for me.

    I'm so sorry for what you've been through. That's the most painful part of life and it's so hard to share it. They say time can cure you, it doesn't though. I just realized that in all that sorrow we could also find a chance to be grateful that the person we loved had been in our life. It took a lot of years to come to this understanding. Even with all those dark moments that person was the light in your life.

    @@ollyre6138 agreed! I’m not going to lie, he was the best thing that ever happened to me! He put me through so much, but he was absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me. I will cherish all the memories I have with him forever! I can’t wait to see him once I get to heaven too! I hope that in the next life, God gets it right and we are married the next time around! I miss him soooo much!! I swear to you I have never felt more “SAFE” with someone as I did with him. He will live on in my heart and my memories forever!

    It really isn't a love story, everyone hates Hawk

  • @stephaniel2850

    Not even a little. People only hate Hawk if they're looking at things through such a 2024 lens that they can't comprehend that for him, it wasn't just a matter of "if" things would end in disaster if he allowed himself to give into the deep, intense love he had for Tim, it was a matter of "when". It's baffling to me that so many people, even so many reviewers, seem to read him as operating out of some crazy selfish ambition, when to me it could not be clearer that every choice he made that hurt Tim, he made because he didn't see himself as *having* any other choice, not because he wanted to. It's not that I don't understand how his actions on the most surface level could be taken as "bad actions = bad person", but like...if you take Hawk on his most surface level then you're completely missing the point of his character? Because the entire point is that the facade of swagger and dominance and lack of caring that he puts up is NOT who he is, and he falls so hard so fast for Tim because Tim is the one person in his whole life who pushes past all those walls he's put up and insists on creating the space for him to be his authentic, kind self? Don't get me wrong, he does have *plenty* of flaws in the form of self destructive behavior that ends up hurting the people he loves as well. But that still doesn't make me hate him, it just makes me hate the world he had to exist in that made him sure that allowing himself to be happy could only ever end in ruin.

    @@arthurcurry3212 I don't mean to come across as rude, obviously everyone's allowed their opinions, but just... that feels like such a deep insult to both the writing and Matt's performance. The *entire point* of the story is that there was a deep, intense love there! The whole first episode is set up in a way that shows us what it looks like when Hawk is keeping things distant and detached in order to protect himself, specifically so that we see that CHANGE when he meets Tim. We see that, before Tim, he wouldn't even tell the guys he hooked up with his *name* , let alone anything else about him. And by the end of the episode, he's opening up to Tim about his deepest trauma and craving genuine intimacy over sex. Pretty much every episode thereafter, as well, deliberately highlights the difference between how he acts in public when he has to have his guard up, and how he acts when its just the two of them late at night basking in each others' company and he can be himself. Hell, the show even goes so far as to have him dictate a letter where he straight up confesses how deep his feelings for Tim are *in episode 2* - he's just hiding it behind "you're writing this to Mary", but it is not at all subtle about the fact that it's his feelings for Tim. But yeah, sure, all of that and all the deliberate shots of him gazing at Tim like he is the most beautiful soul to have ever walked the planet are just... a ridiculously convoluted plot to protect himself somehow, because that makes sense?? 🤨
