Ya man I thought the exact same thing. Beetlejuice and Heath Ledger's Joker have a lot of similarities, the makeup and the psychotic malice with both characters are eerily similar

And watching Jack Nicholson in "the shining"? A psycho crazy man that lost his mind, that's why he was being Joker, and did a great act for it. Michael's character was good for Bruce Wayne. Style also, I think burton did a great choice too choose those actors in each role. 😁😊

As much as I love the Nolan movies of Batman, Tim Burton's interpretation and Michael Keaton's Batman will always be in my heart.

Michael Keaton in 1989... WOOF!

The reason why I see Michael as the best is because all the other actors looked they were casted to play Bruce/Batman. Michael actually has the look and feel of some one thrown into the situation's that the character would encounter.

Sometimes I wonder if Burton and Johnny Depp never met. Would Michael Keaton be what Depp became in Burton's movies? I like Depp and all, but I miss Keaton's on-screen charisma. He did so many great and different movies at his peak.

mike was around 38 and tim was about 31 in this interview. mike was already well established, and came out of the 70s early 80s party days, in nyc and la, , burton had only directed pee wees adventure when he was like 25 and then of course bettle juice, and now look at this career.. amazing.. were they on coke? maybe..

Tim seemed particularly exhausted during this interview. I recall in the DVD commentary that the '89 film was an overwhelming experience for him that actually stressed him out so much that he remembers almost nothing from the shoot.

i feel the same way. Batman and Batman Returns is what i grew up watching. i really dont care for the new movies. its hard for me to accept anyone else as Batman other than Keaton.

Mark Hamill was the best Joker followed by Jack Nicholson. Heath didn’t get the Joker at all, and just mumbled incoherently the whole movie.

Why are they both wearing sunglasses inside? It's not just one, it's both...... Tim Burton, what a director! Simply the best, but it makes you wonder. When Tim Burton talks he's very scattered and he has a real difficulty clearly conveying his thoughts, it's a real challenge or he just has a lot of excitement, or he has anxiety, who knows, but he gets so many compliments from actors he works with that love working with the guy, but when you hear him public speak, it seems like he'd be challenging to work with in that regard, trying to understand what he's getting at. As an artist, he has a super clear vision and his artwork, he always feels isn't good, actually tells a lot so, I question and marvel at how he does so well in his job, maybe it's just actors kissing up, seems they're always on the hunt for more work, but anyway, EXCELLENT MOVIES however he does it. Blows my mind. It's sad to see Michael Keaton sitting there knowing he had to surrender his identity and create a new one because of Kurt Douglas's son. Michael Keaton doesn't get to be himself and had to change his stage name to Keaton, maybe he likes it so he's harder to find but, kind of a drag you don't get to be yourself, you have to change your name. Bummer.......

@omegadevil: M. Shoemaker should be Joel Schumacher, my bad. Love this interview. Staying true to yourself & enjoying a good scare. Beetlejuice proved as such, well before Batman. In fact, given the movie's cult status--most notably due to the cartoon series--I think Beetlejuice is Burton's true baby, moreso than either Batman film or his recent love affair with Johnny Depp. If Beetlejuice 2 does finally get greenlit, we need Micheal Keaton & Winona Ryder back for sure, with Burton in charge.

It's funny because Keaton jokes about how they're dressed like two pretentious bullshit dark show biz guys, but that's how Burton ALWAYS looks, while this is my first time seeing Keaton this way and found it odd.

I completely agree with you (Kevin's voice is amazing as Batman, and Mark is crazy as the Joker; like a goofy scary insane person), but as far as movies go I think Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson were the best bad guy/good guy relationship.

Cool Glasses for Michael and Tim

I like what Nolan is doing. he brought Batman closer to us as if he was among us. When you watch the other movies it was too cheesy and cartoon like. Even the cartoon had a more serious tone than those. Nolan delivers in both story telling and it's dark visuals. If you don't agree go watch Batman and robin or Batman forever, Batman returns. you may change your mind. if not then you don't have to see the new movies and stick to Burton. Also i'm no fan boy so my opinion is not biased to anyone.

@omegadevil: Tim Burton ONLY made Batman & Batman Returns. Batman Forever & Batman and Robin were done by M. Shoemaker (sp?) who changed the dark formula to something like the 60s Adam West show. The things Burton is MORE known for is things like Beetlejuice--also with Keaton in the title role--and Corpse Bride, even with the nerophilic implications of both, especially the former with BJ's perverse humor, the wedding scene, & of course the preported sequel & subsequent cartoon.

Imo Batman Returns and Beetlejuice are just as "Tim Burton" as anything Burton did with Depp.

Hand to hand combat in other words, not trying to outwit him with random powers. Only on Superman 3 have I seen him reverse a wall distruction with beams from his eyes
