His talent is orgasmic. He could've made millions if he'd played by the industry rules, but he chose to make mind-blowing, daring records like Starsailor. Hear hear!

Also, another thing--the title track was literally just Tim's voice. All of the music on that track is Tim Buckleys voice layered. It's really beautiful.

I've never quite been able to get into this one, but it's cool to hear you explain why it's a classic - good vid. For me the best thing from Buckley is the Dream Letter live album - just showcases the raw electric quality of his vocals even better than the studio albums and is an entrancing experience for almost a 2 hour running time. Probably one of my favourite albums ever actually.

I love that Time covered so much ground in just a few short years. He's definitely undervalued...his more experimental albums, like this one, are incredible to this day. Interesting that you mentioned 'It'll End In Tears'...being a huge fan of 4AD's output from that era, it's one of my favourite records of al time. Surely a candidate for another Deep Cuts Essential?

Timmy (IMO) is the most underrated, unappreciated singer of all time . Thank you for covering Starsailor Tim considered this his masterpiece and it is! - interesting someone mentions Björk in this feed as one of her albums featured a vocal layered track which a lot of journalists claim was never done before! My favourite musician of all time. Live he was even more free and interesting. Another artist worth a mention is Terry Reid - also very unappreciated, talented and alot of folks don't realise Jimmy Page's original choice for what was to be Led Zep.

On Song to the Siren: "puzzled as the oyster" is from the earlier versions of the track, when he recorded it acoustically. On the album version, it's "I'm as puzzled as a newborn child". Think there are a few other lyrical differences as well.

I'd say the most amazing part of Starsailor's title track is that it's just his voice layered and chopped up and it is just horrifying. Thanks for giving this record more exposure and I'd love to see you do a Deep Cuts on Peter Stampfel, the fun, weird uncle of American folk.

This should be interesting. One of my favourite singers of all time and responsible for my favourite song of all time. That said, I own Starsailor, I tried my best to get into it, but I'm too weak. I can't stand it, genius or not. And I must say I'm glad I discovered Tim Buckley before every critic labeled Starsailor as the essential, genius TB album - because if I had started with it I would never have discovered my personal favourite albums, probably would've just asked "what's wrong with y'all" and ran away crying. :)

I think you forgot to mention Larry Beckett as the lyricist......Larry helped Tim write songs early in his career for his first two albums before they split ways. Tim then recorded Happy Sad, Blue Afternoon and Lorca without his input, but brought him back for Starsailor....cant discount Beckett.

Unrelated to this video, but would you consider making a guide to Bjork. I read a Pitchfork article for the 20th anniversary of her Homogenic album (also rated a perfect 10 apparently) and chased it up a bit further. There is bits that I enjoy in her music but I find it pretty dense and not really sure that I can appreciate it "properly" if I might call it that. But other than my own confusion I think she is a controversial and influential figure of music for the past few decades, so it'd be worthwhile. Thanks!

It's a shame he has to sing like that for most of the album. This and the band Live's singer's vocals just make it impossible for me to take the songs seriously or listen to more than one song at a time, it's like those shreds videos. At least here it seems intentional.
