I really meant yoke!

MY GOD THOSE COWS ARE GIGANTIC

young unbred female- heifer... older been bred female- cow... young castrated male- steer... young intact male- bull calf... older intact male- bull... trained steers are called oxen (and i once read something about 4yrs? not sure about that) ... you can use cows but overall they are steers.

I don't know who the guy was doing the rough shaping with the drawknife, but if that thing slips, he's gonna be singing soprano for the rest of his life. I think I'd find another way to brace that yoke besides sitting on it, or if it must be done that way, I think I'd get a heavy leather apron or a piece of wood between me and that knife.

They are not cows! They are oxen!. Because cows are female and oxen are male.
