Till Death Us Do Part - S05E01 - The TV Licence

Комедия

Till Death Us Do Part season 5 episode 1
Alf has always dominated the TV viewing and his views on most things are brought to prominence by a wide array of subjects spoon-fed from the box in the corner. However, the liberals controlling the BBC have made him take a stand and he has refused to pay the TV licence.

• Till Death Us Do Part
Till Death Us Do Part is a British television sitcom that aired on BBC1 from 1965 to 1975. First airing as a Comedy Playhouse pilot, the show aired in seven series until 1975. Six years later, ITV continued the sitcom, calling it Till Death.... From 1985 to 1992, the BBC produced a sequel In Sickness and in Health.
Created by Johnny Speight, Till Death Us Do Part centred on the East End Garnett family, led by patriarch Alf Garnett (Warren Mitchell), a reactionary white working-class man who holds racist and anti-socialist views. His long-suffering wife Else was played by Dandy Nichols, and his daughter Rita by Una Stubbs. Rita's husband Mike Rawlins (Anthony Booth) is a socialist layabout. The character Alf Garnett became a well known character in British culture

I could watch this all day " you ignorant Scouse git !! " Makes me laugh , and I'm from Liverpool 😁 And that is probably the difference between our generation who used to watch this and never took offence cos it was just TV comedy , and today's generation where your not allowed to whisper anything that might sound remotely offensive, regardless of what context its said in 😥😥

The reason is that everyone knew Warren Mitchell didn't have a mean-spirited bone in his body. Unlike the louts that spew forth their ignorance with the pure intent of harming others, today. Don't think the rest of us can't tell the difference. Those who are not mean-spirited neither complain nor attempt to justify their feigned indignance with red herrings such as "context." If you have to point out context, you've already exposed yourself for what you are.

Cazzy Virg Why are you watching this then? Without the license fee to fund creativity and talent this series would never have been created, otherwise you get mindless twaddle and shallow rubbish as on the commercial channels where you also spend half of your time watching irritating commercials. This was a cleverly written series which highlighted racism, homophobia and bigotry seen trough the rankings of Alf Garnett and was designed to make a mockery of HIM. Mind you, the fact that you're happy to use expletives to express your opinion of the BBC tells me that shallow pap suits your intellect down to the ground!

Pete David I agree only to a point. The other option is to have a commercial TV and radio channels similar to what we have now in the UK and be hit by a double whammy: poorer quality or sensational/shallow content programs (with along with advertising to rub salt into the wound! Whatever anybody thinks, the BBC has an unrivalled reputation the world over and is respected for its program innovation and journalistic quality.
