Tikkanen OT Playoff Game Winner 1997
Esa Tikkanen, always a clutch playoff goal scorer comes through here again against Florida in Game 3 of the 1st round of the 1997 playoffs as the Rangers take a 2 games to 1 lead in the series.
He was the only one who knew it was in as everyone else assumed the puck hit the crossbar but replays showed it was in and jarred the camera inside the net which made a similar clunk sound to the crossbar. After a long review the goal was finally recognized by replay officials.

I was watching this game live in New Jersey on this day, when i observed Tikkanen with his arms around M. Richter waiting for the play to be reviewed I'm proud to say I already knew the outcome before the majority of 18,200 fans inside MSG knew. . . Tikk...your a legend and we as fans are eternally grateful for your contribution to the New York Rangers in my life-time and beyond.

I loved how Esa knew immediatly it was a goal when no one else did including JD
Tikk was my favorite player back then. I love how he was explaining the shot to Ricky, and I can almost imagine him saying back ‘Dude, I don’t understand a word you’re saying, but I think it was a good goal too!’ 🏒❔🤣

Esa had one of the best slap shots, very underrated part of his game and JD says it here. He would win Game 5 of this series with a similar shot and also scored against the Devils in the 2nd round Game 5 in 97

Tikk was a true playoff warrior!!! My fave Ranger and he only played season and half with Rangers!! Rangers don't have any Tikkanens thats why they'll never win cup!!

we needed this karma vs panthers in 2024
