TIKKA T3X and Canadian Gun Laws: USOG Speaks Up!

Спорт

Canada's northern border used to be patrolled using the Lee Enfield. Today the Canadian Rangers in Canada's north patrol with the Tikka T3X Arctic. This is a slick firearm and a great choice by the Canadian government. On the other hand, I'm not sure the same great decisions are being made about the gun laws. Tune in for some of my thoughts on the topic. Thanks for watching! Don't forget to click the bell to be notified of future videos, and support the channel however you can.

As a Mohawk person living on a reserve in Ontario Canada I can say truly that weather or not they make amendments for my people to keep these firearms is not the point. I stand with my fellow Canadians in the fact that banning hunting rifles and shotguns isn’t going to change anything for public safety. This government is destroying our country and pitting citizens against each other.

You are exactly right, this Liberal government lead by JT is doing everything it can to divide the people. He called unvaccinated people misogynists and racists and should be charged with hate crimes. What he is doing to law abiding gun owners I believe won't stop till he has us all stripped of all firearms, then we can be easily controlled.

I'm a Canadian, and while I thank you for speaking up about the Canadian government banning guns, I don't think the concentration and outrage over hunting rifles is the only conversation we need to have. Semi autos like the AR-15 have been around for decades, and have been used by many hunters for small and medium game, even in Canada before they were declared to be restricted and only permissible to be used at approved ranges. All guns are suitable for free citizens to own, even the so called military style assault weapons.

@@sunnavailable can you expand on that, maybe with some sort of reason why it isn't a hunting rifle? After all, semi automatic rifles have been around for well over 100 years, including hunting rifles for most of that time. And every bolt action hunting rifle currently available today owes its existence to military bolt action rifles that were state of the art in the late 1800's, they've just been modernized over the years. Doesn't it make sense that semi auto hunting rifles would be modernized as well? Especially considering that the AR-15 design has been around for over 60 years, and Wikipedia has a whole section dedicated to it as a hunting rifle, I think it would be perfectly suitable for hunting when chambered in an appropriate cartridge for the game being hunted.

Canadian here. Not a city guy but I do happen to live in one. There is a huge disconnect between urban and rural living in this country and it's getting worse. I've started to invite some of my coworkers to go out shooting, even if they never plan on owning or even wanting to own a gun. Education and knowledge is always a good thing and it seems to be seriously lacking in this case. BTW, my old hunting partner from up north had several Ruger No. 1s. He swore by them.

This problem exists in the US as well. The big, libtard cities get their way 100% of the time. Nationally, the electoral college system helps to get more proportional representation for more rural states, but on a state level, the cities always get their way. Look at NY for instance. 75% or more of the state is rural and deeply Republican but thanks to the vastly larger and leftist population of new York city, they are utterly disenfranchised and have no representation in the state government. There's plenty of other states like this and its getting worse every election cycle.

The current bill c-21 which is the legislation that is going to ban these hunting rifles, was originally supposed to be put forward to ban handguns as a response to the Uvalde Texas school shooting. Why a shooting in Texas should effect my ability to buy handguns in Canada, I have no idea, but here we are. The massive list of rifles being banned was added to the handgun legislation after debates in the house of commons were done as an amendment, to try to shut down any debate on the issue.

I've lived in Western Canada for 65 years. During that time I served in the light infantry, RCMP, corrections and the last 9 years as a Sheriff. I have been shooting and collecting for 35 years, mostly Winchester rifles and S&W handguns. Due to the Trudeau insanity my $20,000 handgun collection is now worthless and I cannot even leave it to my spouse, who has the proper licence. My $6000 military rifle collection is now prohibited and awaiting confiscation. There is the monumental lie that we will be compensated but, I very much doubt that, Trudeau is a serial liar. The cultural and social divide between urban and rural, West and East is rapidly destroying the country. The liberal government has degenerated into a form of insulated, banana republic, utterly corrupt and incompetent beyond belief. Canadians have a choice to make very soon. We grovel before the new dictatorship and their gutless storm troopers in the RCMP or take a stand. Sadly, the type of men who would never tolerate such rampant abuse of power are in short supply, due to the "soyling" down of the male population in Canada and the rise of low information voters. Can you imagine how disgusted those lads who stormed the beaches of Normandy in 1944 would be ? It's incredible how an entire country can be cowed into submission by a blithering idiot and his pack of weasels. God Save The King because, it may be too late for Canada to save herself.

The news is really light on details, but it could have easily been a hunter bringing his rifle back to his house after the end of the season, and a new neighbour not used to seeing guns got scared and called the police. About all they've said is that he surrendered the gun without incident, was taken to town and then released that same day pending firearms charges. I also live in an area where gunshots aren't uncommon, and I can safely and legally shoot in my backyard, which I sometimes do. It doesn't seem like it takes much to get a huge over reaction to nothing nowadays though.

If I was limited to a bolt gun of my choosing I have seen nickel plated Enfields No7s I believe that would probably be better than my No5. As far as gun banning. Hunters don't seem to really care when governments ban things like AKs, ARs, standard capacity magazines, and things that fit into that category. So when it comes around that governments want hunting guns, the hunters expect outrage on their behalf when they wouldn't offer it for their brother. I read something from Australia or New Zeeland where pump action shotguns were banned. Eventually the gun banning will affect everyone if we don't all stand up for one another.

Finding a magazine is almost impossible in Canada these days. Certainly no "new" ones. Just as an aside when I started hunting in the 60s of my hunting partners only one had a Savage 99 the rest of us all used Enfields. I once saw a pile of them at the Army Surplus on Main St in Winnipeg and they wanted $5 for your pick. Mind you that works out to $50 of today's dollars. I read the government gave away millions of them as part of the Dominion Marksmanship program. I know there is still a trainload of them out there slam-dunking moose every year. I preferred using the 150 grain soft point ammo. I really didn’t know anything different as it was the one and only rifle I owned. Pity to think that the Führer might make this WW2 piece of history prohibited because of it’s “military lineage”. As I got older, somehow the Enfield seemed to get heavier and the iron sights got a little harder to use. Couldn’t be the fact that I’m in my 60s now would it? I have since retired it to “range toy” status, and bought a Tikka T3 with a Bushnell scope. I loved using the Enfield, but the Tikka is way lighter by comparison. I can see why the Armed Forces chose to equip the Rangers with the C19 version of it. Hopefully my Tikka won’t appear on the next 400 page list of newly prohibited firearms.

@@siggishwiggish when the government makes simple possession of a firearm illegal, that's the point where many will cease to be law abiding gun owners. Here in Canada, that's already probably already the majority. When the government pushed through registration of long guns into he 90's, they expected somewhere around 21 million guns to be registered, based on import permits and such. The most they ever got was around 7 million, and they kept revising their expected numbers down so they could show roughly 85-90 percent compliance and call the program a success. On top of that, they also forced everyone who had registered a handgun between 1934 and then to re-register them in the new system, and many simply ignored that, thinking that their handguns were already registered, and they weren't going to fill out more useless paperwork. People also registered all sorts of non firearms, like soldering guns and rivet guns, just to pint out the lack of knowledge of the regulators. I'm afraid that spirit of non compliance has been beat out of most Canadians now though.

Thank you Mike. I love that Tika t3x Arctic I've been seriously thinking about buying one of those. I also like the previous issue enfield they're a real classic did a great job in world war II for the Canadians and the English. I love the sights on that Tika and I was thinking if someone could get a hold of the maker that makes those sights give them your ballistics for your hand load whether it be a 165 grain at 2800 ft per second or a 180° at 2600 ft per second they can make you the sght to match all of the different ranges. I saw another review on this rifle and they said that the rangers use a nosler 180 grain acubond load and I think 2600 feet per second for the 7.62 issue rifle and that those sites match those ballistics. And if I was stuck with those sites and I couldn't change them out that load would be fine that would definitely get the job done on anything. As far as the government outlawing firearms I'm against any regulation even if it is a so-called assault weapon because the problem is they're never satisfied they outlaw the assault weapon and then they just move on to the pistol the rifle the bolt action the falling block the shotgun until we have nothing. They will never be satisfied until they take all of our weapons that's what people need to understand so we have to fight it from the beginning. And I know you agree with this. Thank you Mike great video 👍

So I watched Runkle of the Bailey's video on this, and he pointed out that this could be something very ominous, because according to him, this sets a precedent. The supposed reason is that someone, somewhere, decided to modify a ruger mark 1 to shoot a banned calibre. So what they appear to be saying is that any gun, that gets modified by some Joe in a garage into a banned calibre, because it’s possible to do it. Same mentality of taking guns away from people who have never committed a crime, because maybe they will one day. So if this goes through, they’ll be able to take almost anything away. As for the governments bringing in laws in reaction to an event, it’s more like the government waiting for an excuse. No way they could pop out a brand new law within weeks of an event (in the case of New Zealand). Even laws as bad and stupid as we’re seeing. Also, the way Trudeau brought in the first gun ban using some ww2 law, and then pulled this latest stunt, shows it’s either a political stunt to divert attention, or part of a WEF agenda.

Anyway, if I ever need an Arctic rifle I'll just reach for the king of all Arctic rifles the U.S. Model of 1917. The Sirius Dog Sled Patrol of Denmark still carries them in some of the toughest most inhospitable terrain in the world in Greenland, and those rifles are all over a century old.

It's fairly easy to understand really, the government of Canada wants to rule over a nation of unarmed subjects, instead of armed citizens. This has been in the works for many years, and we are getting close to the end stage where all civilian gun ownership becomes illegal. Politicians on the "liberal" side have been quite open about wanting a completely gun free Canada at least as far back as the 1990's, with Alan Rock famously saying that he "came to Ottawa with the firm belief that only the police and military should have guns in Canada". Other prominent "liberals" have made similar statements over the years. Many saw this coming back when c-68 was implemented, but we're decried as crackpots and conspiracy theorists, and such a thing would never happen in Canada. Yet here we are, and it should be obvious to everyone what is happening by now.

Pennsylvania banned the use of any semi-autos for hunting. 🤷‍♂ The Remington Model 760 was extremely popular in PA for that reason. It was nearly as fast to operate as the 742 and has always had a reputation for far better accuracy. I own examples of both and can vouch for that. In fact, because of the number of Amish in PA, the Model 760 was nicknamed the "Amish Machinegun" or "Amish Autoloader"

I agree that an rifle should have good iron sights. As much as I love the elegant single shots, and my excellent leveractions they just don't cut the mustard in the rough and the cold like these bolt actions. My semi autos and pumps have been disappointing and have froze up solid and I've had pieces of extractors break and bolt fail on the remington 700's and budget rifles. The Ruger Hawkeye series and Mauser 98 pattern rifles and the M1917 I don't have issues with. They have worked for me.

Informative video Mike, thank you as always. T3 is a beautiful rifle. As in Canada, we here in the US have government politicians that are threatened by an armed Populus, and gun control legislation is more for control and less on actual public safety. Drug and alcohol addiction kills more people than guns, but all they focus on is the gun. They fail to prosecute violent felons and then also release violent felons from prison but insist on passing laws to restrict law abiding citizens their right to self-defense and take away guns from those same law-abiding citizens. It's true that in a life-threatening situation, where seconds count, the police are just minutes away. Usually, the police arrive in time to draw the chalk outline around the victim. Both of our countries are run by political buffoons who embrace their Marxist ideology for some Orwellian utopian objective. Sorry for the rant. Thanks again for a great video.

A separate course and test is required for handguns and criminal record checks are conducted daily on handgun owners. Also, we can only shot our pistols at government approved ranges. The problem here is that the government would rather go after legal gun owners than people who use firearms in crime. They are telling us that banning these firearms will make our streets safer but don't explain how taking firearms from legal gun owners is going to prevent crime. The C-21 and amendment will have no affect on public safety as criminals never abide by the laws and are already banned from leagaly owning firearms. These new measures are a waste of resources and the current laws should be enforced to put the violent criminals in jail . Leave the law abiding citizens alone , Thanks again for covering this topic ,

The canadian ranger version is called a Colt C19. They are license built by Colt Canada. If I recall correctly, they use the Tikka action and are barreled by Colt and have a slightly different bolt than the civilian version. There are a few cosmetic differences but they are minor.

I am a Canadian Ranger since the 1980’s, I patrolled and hunted with my issue 303, we are issued 200 rounds each year to keep up our shooting skills so they take a beating, it has never failed to function, my Enfield was replaced with the new C19 a few years ago it is a much more accurate rifle, I would have liked a longer barrel, I really liked to the long sight placement of the Enfield.

Ah...using reason to debate gun grabbers. Never works. Sorry to hear what is going on there. During my career I was posted to Canada twice, both times in Montreal/Quebec. (my office was in Montreal, but I worked all along the US/Canada border) Probably because I speak French. 🤷‍♂ I really enjoyed hunting there and also did a lot of skeet shooting near Montreal. I had the opportunity to hunt moose, bear and deer and the Canadian guides were always most gracious and knowledgeable. And they loved their sporterized Enfields. It was in Canada I came to have high regard for the .303 British cartridge. I actually hunted there the first time in 1971 when I was in college and my father, older brother, his brother-in-law and I hunted up in Quebec. I killed my first bear there with a Winchester Model 71, .348. Canada was my last assignment, for a year, before I retired in 2009. Now I live far away, where there is no snow. I don't miss the snow...but the hunting was really great. Thanks for your great videos covering so many great guns.

Okay I'm back from the bathroom, sorry just had to take a "Trudeau" Thank you Mike, your channel is one of my favorites and I'm always eagerly waiting for the next episodes to see what might possibly be the next interesting firearm for the collection. The Arctic I almost purchased but after much research, decided against because of known accuracy problems with the factory iron sights, also weight & price didn't help either. Wishing you and family a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Years.

The thing that bothers me the most as a firearm owner/operator ... and thinking assault style rifles and especially the AR15, every police force in this country including the PM’s security force all have these “assault style “ rifles ( and I’d bet with capability for full auto and probably 30 round capacity magazines ) ... watching news/KZread reports of peaceful protesters, like we saw this past spring in Ottawa , when the police were sent in ( in mass ) all were carrying “assault style” weapons on un-armed citizens ! Fear the government that wants to disarm its citizens ... yet carry the very same weapons , they are trying to ban , against them !

You missed a key point about the rifles the police use, they're downgraded to patrol carbines in their hands, because that's less scary to the people. You're right about them having 30 round mags though, but I don't think the police issue rifles are full auto capable.

Amazing Rangers - as you wrote - mostly unknown and so outside of many people's appreciation radar - they are nonetheless - Canada's only in place physical eyes and ears up there. Of course, a few satellites destroyed and the electronic and digital systems collapse - making the Rangers and actual people - the only initial defense and alert available.

I seen a toronto made 303 british and its a sweet looking rifle. Got a older stevens 22410 and it needs a new selector switch so i got to take it apart and swap with a new kit. I ordered parts from newyork before gunlaws came into play and now I cant even order a spring or screw from newyork. And before the russian war my sks needed a hammer pivot pin and I ordered one and Igot it 1 month before the war started, order from the russian federation. I have a gevarm I wanted to order a magazine but cant now so its a useless semi auto now. Stupid gun laws kill everything. Im not a criminal and dont have a record and dont sell my guns to criminals either so and Im native. So why is the sks on the list when they are already in canada and natives of all kinds use them for hunting , same as me when it come to hunting as a sks can drop a moose at 400 yards easy. Elk and deer too. Im sure they use sks for caribou or else anything else of biggame. Its too late for the guns now. I never seen a criminal shoot up a place with a 742 or a BAR.
