Tikka T3 Super Lite Pt. 2 - Making a Great Rifle Better

Ойын-сауық

Some simple modifications on a Tikka T3. Easy modifications to enhance the life, accuracy and comfort of one of the best rifles, dollar for dollar, on the market. All parts came from Mountain Tactical, and I was satisfied with fit and quality.

    Add plastic grocery bags instead of foam. Same result, less mess, no weight.

    Tikka T3x are inexpensive because of the plastic components...plastic trigger guard, plastic stock with no aluminum bedding block, plastic magazine, plastic bolt release, etc. Upgrades can move the total cost up to twice the original cost of the rifle. I decided to live with the plastic and use the upgrade money to invest in a higher quality scope. Tikka replaced the polymer bolt shroud with an aluminum one and changed the aluminum recoil lug to steel, so they are no longer a problem. Tikka stocks are now foam filled. Replacing the plastic trigger guard with aluminum bottom metal is one upgrade that will improve accuracy. The plastic trigger guard is susceptable to breaking because of the thin plastic.

    Ive upgraded the stock and bottom metal on mine. Cost me about 600. So yeah about double. But id argue i get the exact rifle i want. If i just flat out bought at 1200 rifle, there might still be a plastic piece in there. Or i might not like thr stock, etc. The piecemeal way lets you tailor it m8re to yourself imo.

    would have loved to see how you actually added the foam to the butt stock. my concern would be that you would get foam to ooze up into areas you don't want it to go. How did you prevent that? and did you do it while the gun was assembled or was it disassembled when you did it?

    Comparing the tikka to the Bergara wilderness hunter. The Bergara is better in most ways Tikka 1.2 lbs lighter Drop magazine Both have sub moa guarantee Bergara Bergara now has a fluted bolts and is smoother than tikka Better stock Extra round in the box magazine Metal trigger guard. All tikkas are long action for some reason None of the plastic parts on the bolt A threaded action knob Wilderness is cerakoted and tikka is stainless. I prefer cerakote.

    At times I wish I had put the extra cash toward a Sako, but this is an excellent all weather rifle and accuracy has been very good but not stellar - around 1 MOA. Keep in mind recoil gets punishing in the magnum calibers due to the light weight.

  • @sav300

    @sav300

    Out of two Tikka rifles I’ve owned, they have been amazingly accurate. Sub MOA is easy to achieve if you take the time to find what ammo it likes. I had a 338 Win mag and could shoot 1/2 moa with reloads. My 308 Win will shoot sub 1/2 moa with factory ammo all day. Absolute best rifle out of the box! No mods, they just shoot!

    The reason some buy the Super lite is because its been on sale for $499 to 600 and you get the Tikka Barrel and action that most people buy them for other than hunting and then they just buy their preferred stock and have a precision rifle at half the cost of the higher end Tikkas.
