My treble has 43 students-

I'm a soprano, and I actually love hearing the alto section every time they sing, because their parts make the song whole and it overall just sounds fuller to me. We had an alto in my choir who almost always got the solos because she was hands down one of the best singers there. She didn't hit high notes, her voice was just absolutely gorgeous. The reason no other altos were getting those parts though is because they were to busy complaining that sopranos were getting the "better" parts and never trying out for the solos. They were also too busy hating us for existing because we got the "easier" notes and the melodious parts. Like y'all need to chill cause it really ain't our fault we can hit those notes lmao. We're legit the only group that gets crapped on for our natural voices, like be mad at the director for y'all parts, not us XD.

I'm probably the loudest kid in the choir and a soprano too for most songs we do, and alto for some, but it's just my natural voice. The alto kids are also way too quiet - it's not me, it's the altos. You can literally never hear them, sometimes barely.

Even we mezzos forget we exist, I had a voice-identity crisis for years before learning about mezzo-soprano 😭

As a reformed choir kid I can say with absolute certainty that 90% of choir kid humor tik toks are made in lieu of just flat out saying "tell me how great my voice is because my ego is both massive and incredibly weak!!!!!!!!! 😊"

at this point arent the altos like the older sibling bullying the spoilt youngest (sopranos) while the mezzos are the middle kids who always get forgotten by the rest

In our section choir, it’s the opposite, lol. It’s mostly because there’s too many altos, and way too less sopranos. Even our music teacher was surprised when he did voice classifications. And most of our soprano section is filled with quiet girls who don’t sing that much. There’s only three who keep doing a proper job. As one of them quiet sopranos, I feel guilty.

I'm gonna be real with you. This last school year was my first experience actually being in the choir class, and there was like 7 of us, and we were ALL girls. And as much as I LOVED those girls with all my heart, I swear I carried them all because I was the most outgoing and actually willing to sing loud while the rest of the class was full of shy kids.

In my choir, or the choirs I've been, altos have a reputation of having good ears. Always getting hard parts easily. Good sight readers. If you're an alto cheers! 😉

Based on my personal experience in choir (I am a Soprano as well), the altos end up using their throat voice (and even becoming louder than the sopranos). Most of the time, we fight for volume LMAO

The one at 2:19 is very accurate based on my choirs experiences. The sopranos (me and 73% of my friends) were singing in Latin an the altos were basically vocalizing to the melody. It’s also difficult to get the right mix in my choir because most of the altos are loud seven and eight graders while most of the sopranos are the opposite and a smaller group.

0:21 to 1:08 is seriously accurate. That is how my choir class is like when we're singing a Christmas pop song.

Me, a soprano: 'is blending with the Altos for the first time in literal eons' Choir Instructor: "So now I'm gonna give you this extremely high note that will drown out everyone because the only way you can hit it is by screaming and make the Altos want to shank you in an alley" Me: *begins to sweat profusely*

I was a second alto- the lowest voices in our choir. Sopranos had all the interesting parts and were constantly showing off. We were just holding one long note for ten seconds and then another. Now that you mention it, I had the same problem. There were too many flutes my 8th grade year, so my band director asked me (then 3rd chair flute) to learn the French horn instead. She seriously asked me after the Christmas parade if I thought I could pick it up for concert season and sent me home with the instrument and music book. When I was confident enough to bring it to class a few weeks later, I found out I'd been playing everything an octave too low. Then as a sophomore in high school, my choir director asked me (a soprano 1) to sing with the altos because he couldn't hear them and he wanted me to give them a boost. Never mind the fact that I could barely hit some of those low notes. Fun times. Lol

Omg that’s me 😂🤣😂 and I’m a guy. Everyone hates me for it because they’re like “can you not show off your vocals, damn you a tenor but sings higher than Mariah her self”.

I'm a 9th grader in choir with 7 total tenor/basses. And you'd be surprised to hear that our choir teacher yells at us sopranos and the Altos saying that 7 guys shouldn't be louder than 30 girls lol. They also sound amazing. I'm so surprised because they are all 9th graders and they're rlly skilled.

I really REALLY like the blonde girl fantastic and she knows it with humility ❤️

My friend would be that one saprano. You can literally hear them clearly even when everyone else is singing

This bring back so many memories. I chorus in the morning and it shock me that some of the students had that much energy in them around 8am.

Contralto, yes, but alto isn't really a voice type - it's just a choir term. Both Mezzo-sopranos and Contraltos often sing in that group.

omg i remember doing circle of light for seventh grade. i was the only one who knew the pronunciations because in the choir i do outside of school, we do several songs in zulu and swahili. so i knew the pronunciations, and i was the only one singing it right too lol

only singers or people who sing will understand: when your doing a long piece of a song and you forgot to breath and your doing very good BUT if you breath you mess the song up so you have to just hold your breath while singing :>

I was just speaking of personal experience, I know a lot of wonderful sopranos with beautiful voices who are really good at singing. I was just saying that in the choir I was in, most of them(the sopranos) weren't very good singers, and that's fine (You can improve if you want to) But I just really don't like it when people think they are the best and look down on you, when they are just simply not as good as they think. Sameeee. We always had the high/1st voice (sopranos) and the low/2nd voice (altos) and we always called the low voice the depressed voice because it honestly sounded like that... You almost always only get to sing monotone stuff when you're an alto in a choir

I love how most of these target the sopranos, or soprano 1. As an orchestra kid it's the equivalent of "violin 1"
