Wow Columbus great job

Columbus Crew are the MLS Champions and have carried themselves as a well disciplined team under Head Coach Wilfried Nancy. Still, they are the exception and not the rule, as Alexi Lalas pointed out, with the strict salary cap and arcane roster rules the MLS clubs have to play with one hand tied behind their backs. That makes what Columbus Crew did even more impressive.

MLS teams aren't designed to be competitive in international tournaments... they're designed to be not much better or worse than the next MLS team on any given day.

Those rules have allowed the league to grow significantly in a sustainable manner. The teams are better than they were ten years ago and way better than two decades ago. In ten years, they are likely to be even better. This way, we don't have two or three super teams and several teams on the brink of economic disaster.

​@gabrielmariduena3990 I agree that the league exists and has grown with these rules, but times have changed. It is still unlikely an MLS team will win this tournament this season. There have been rumors that they may add some spending in the summer, but most agree that 2025 will see a massive jump. Why didn't they add that spending this winter and give these teams a better chance to compete? If you win this year you could win a spot into the club world cup that will be in the US. What is so sacred about this salary cap that they didn't want to try to get into that competition? The old thinking is hurting the league at this point.

Funny how this works. Had Columbus lost on penalties, no one would be saying they choked, and that's literally the only reason Tigres were on the board.

Columbus have done what few MLS teams have ever managed to do. Not got completely obliterated in an away game to a Mexican side. That's what I call the best team in MLS 😎

I’m Mexican and I have to give respect 🫡 to Columbus they play beautiful .. they are one of my favorites teams to win this tournament and also America from mexico… but my respect for this team

Not shown: 8,000 half-fouls from Tigres with zero yellow cards given, Tigres complaining every time the whistle was blown against them, Tigres complaining every time the whistle wasn't blown against Columbus, and a hilariously bad missed PK that should have been awarded to the Crew. CONCACAF fully tried to CONCACAF the Crew in this one and we found a way in spite of it. Few wins have felt better.

It was ridiculous. Near the end of regular time, a Tigres player stomped on Yeaboah with his studs to his leg. Not even a yellow card or review for red. It was the exact same thing that happened in leg 1. The officials gave out yellows to Columbus like candy but would not give out anything to Tigres. Concacaf is a complete joke. They make it nearly impossible for MLS teams to win. I know a lot of people hate the United States, and it's easy to see that when watching the officials when MLS teams are playing.

It was crazy he made a massive mistake in the beginning. After that, he was the best player on the field. He made a ton of crazy saves that most keepers wouldn't have made. Then during the shootout, he made 2 incredible saves. Schultes for me was man of the match.
