This song is what country music today should be instead of the rubbish they keep forcing down our throats. Tift merritt, great artist, great song.

this song is so underrated, love it so much, had this come out in the 70's probably woulda been considered a classic

saw here once in Star & Garter Manchester UK back in 2002 and fell in love with her voice, music and frankly her face and eyes. Met her after show and she was cool as anything and yet so sweet and self effacing about her incredible talent

Saw her at the Larimer Lounge, in Denver, CO, U.S.A, in February of 2005, the week before she went to the Grammies . . . and lost to Loretta Lynn. If you've never been, the Larimer is the most intimate venue imaginable, literally like someone's big living room plus a bar. When Tift shook her hair during the gospelish "Shadow In The Way," which closed her set, I got hit with her sweat. I was in Heaven . . . and in love with an attached woman - fanboy love. Saw her a couple more times, at least one time at the Bluebird, in Denver - can't remember the other venue. Both subsequent shows were very good but couldn't hold a candle to that first time I saw her. It almost goes without saying I wouldn't mind being her tambourine. Oh, wait, she's married. Sigh . . .

I had heard of Tift Merritt's name, nothing more. Well today I discovered her. Upon first listen, I knew that she wrote her own songs from the heart. Long live the singer sonwriter.

As Leonard Cohen was the true voice of my generation, Tift Merrit, I am certain, will eventually be recognized as the true voice of today's. There aren't that many artists that can so completely catch the heart and soul of an era.

Just watched her on "Live at WFUV." I had no idea she was so hot, until watching this video. :) The music is nice. Love it.

So glad I came across this today. Reminds me of why I love her so much. I met and spoke to Tift a few times. Always beautiful, sweet and warm. The last time was in Tucson AZ @ 2006 after a performance that was sadly under attended.

Glad this song is back on You Tube. Tift is so great. Have seen her four times, and am awaiting the fifth. Can't get enough of this talented singer-songwriter.

I think I've watched the video over 15 times now. Could be 20, I don't know it never gets old. I like the long take style of the cinematography and of course I love Tift Merritt. I't doesn't get any better than this.

What a tremendous talent she is! A lovely lady who writes, sings and plays with attention-compelling eloquence and grace. I've been her big fan since having read a review of her debut album, "Bramble Rose," which I bought therefter and haven't stopped playing since!

I remember buying her album when I was obsessed with "Good Hearted Man". I was a freshman in college and I heard the song every morning on CMT. I was more into Pop and Country music at that time, but now that I am really into Folk music I see that I have missed out on some great tunes! Can't wait to listen to this while I work tomorrow.

I had to reread that.

They made it look like almost every room she walked into had the bass player the guitar player the steel guitar player and the drummer. It’s like they switched rooms.

All I can say is....Wow! ;o)

I saw Tift perform last tuesday in PARADISO Amsterdam for the second time. As opening for Iron & wine. I went especially to see her. A pity her acoustic act isn't powerfull enough. Tift schouldn't open but be the main act with full band!

I rather listen to the alternative country music like tift Merritt and Sheryl crow . besides them there are other alternative country singers I rather listen to before today garbage.

Can't believe this is 15 years old and she didn't really "make it". Her second CD is good to. This song sounds like a blend of Eagles Lyin' Eyes and Brooks&Dunn You're Gonna Miss Me. I never really understood the last lines of the last verse. This song is about Virginia seeing Tift's man ? Or the man is leaving Virginia for Tift ?

Sorry my intent wasn't clear at all. In my lexicon one can look whacked in a completely fun way. Watch her with the audio off. I agree that she is ungodly beautiful and very talented. In need of no makeover whatsoever. I adore her. There are things that could be done to considerably improve her vocal dynamics (some coaching wouldn't hurt her) and her producer needs to bring her vocals more forward in about every recording I've listened to (which is most of them) but that's a nit overall.

This video cheapens her talent. Tift is better than this. But this is the world we live in. I'm still in love with her.

I'm gay and even I found this video hot.

Form fitting shirts are so unfair. I feel objectified.
