Country music has a mega-star, and doesn't even know it. Tift is an unbelievable singer-song writer.

I love discovering great artists like Tift - especially when "The Machine" tries to pidgeon-hole them in a particular genre. If she IS country, she's NOT the bubble-gum crap Nashville has been spewing for years now. She's soulful-country-blues, which isn't cookie cutter -it's "real". She reminds me of bits and pieces of greats like Emmylou Harris, Mindy Smith, Stacey Earle, and even some Gladys Knight. I just downloaded all of her stuff from iTunes and can't wait to discover all of it.

She is one of my favorites along with Patty Griffin. They write the most beautiful stuff and perform so well. They are consistently good. And can tear your heart out with some of the lyrics.

this is the first time i've ever heard her (this episode was...not the video i'm watching now) and i'm really impressed with her.

how did this get classified as country? and why does she accept the classification? amy macdonald is huge in europe and shes not country. tift merrit would be huge in the states if she wasnt considered country. and tift is way hotter than amy.
