BRAVO! Certainly one of the best young artists at the keyboard to emerge in many a long year -- a true lyrical talent blest true musical insight and with a high degree of virtuosity -- always a rare and wonderful combination.. I was enchanted with Tiffany's Carnaval, awestruck by her Prokofiev Toccata, delighted with the subtlety and dream-like quality of her Barcarolle. Now I look forward to listening to her more and more. I'm 74, a well-trained pianist, myself, a lifelong student of piano literature, and an avid concertgoer for at least sixty-five years. You'd think I'd be jaded by now, but a fresh young talents such as Tiffany Poon enlivens me as it assures me the future of musical art is in good hands.

Hyramess Hiramess you are so right in your comments about the true lyrical talent and musical insight. I was taken aback at this young lady's virtuosity and her ability to see the message in this wonderful piece of art that has been with me since the age of about 12 or 13. I was never advanced enough to play beyond the first few pages but that melancholy slow waltz that take up two or three pages was an absolute joy to play. To quote the American musicologist, James Hunker "About the fourth and glorious Ballade in f minor I could write a volume. It is Chopin in his most reflective, yet most lyrical mood". Thank you for your comments Hyramess. We must continue to share our joy and wonderment at these young musicians and give them all the support and encouragement that they so rightly deserve.

The finest interpretation of this piece I've ever heard (and I've heard most of them.....). Chopin's Ballade No. is arguably his greatest work for solo piano, and Tiffany has nailed it. Nothing more to be said.

Her playing really speaks to me. She has poetry, fire and technical brilliance. She also shows an intelligent grasp of the structure and form of this demanding work.

Nonam33290 Yes you may be right, there are a lot of inspired and wonderful Chopin works but I couldn’t point to one ‘Better’ than this fourth Ballade. It embodies every trick of the trade. Gorgeous clever performance ,we are so lucky to be able to Experience it here on KZread.

That was so magical - I have never yet seen a performance of this piece that leaves me hanging on literally every single note, but yours did! Even the tricky passages were played not for show, but to add so much to the journey of the piece. I look forward to subscribing and watching the rest of your videos. Thank you!

I can not understand people who find fault with the interpretation. Surely these people are complex. The music that we receive have inherited written and its realization can be from multiple optical and sensitivities and all optimal. One of the most important musical characteristic is that art is not immutable. Each time the piece is played is different and life itself puts the interpreter that should be respected. Music as Art accommodate as many views as there are sensitivities.

  • @shaozhongchen5383

Then why fault others? The consciousness given to us is immense and undefinable, and each a different taste, a different thought, each view just as honest as the rest, and if not contradictory of oneself, which higher being is to say that they can't? Or better yet, who's right in that matter? Precisely why something is different or weaker or whatever from the rest is a reason or reason enough for one to find fault, that's pure nature, and all you can do, is voice your own opinion and argue it out, the other may see your point, maybe not, but it's all up to you now isn't it? Art is immutable yes, but so is opinion, at least not on the surface, desolated yes, mutable, no

I completely agree with you. I felt nothing when she started this Ballade, and it is full of emotion. Just because a person is capable of playing notes and has technique, it doesn't make it a good performance automatically, and she does not have the musical maturity required for this DIFFICULT Ballade. I bet I will get bitched out for my comment as well...I always do ;)
