Tie-dye pattern P123 : Heavy Crumple

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A loose crumpling of the fabric provides us with great bulging mounds.
The pleats are high and far apart, the chaos is great.
The heavier you are with the bottle, the heavier the spots will be.
What you want is islands of dye in a sea of white.

𝟏) 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
Start with a clean 100% cotton blank white shirt.
Soak the shirt in water then wring it out. Leave it slightly damp.
𝟐) 𝐌𝐢𝐱 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐲𝐞𝐬
Using 8oz (230ml) bottles
Measure and add your dye powder first.
Add 1 teaspoon of soda ash to the bottle.
Fill the bottle with water and shake well.
Don't mix too much at one time - the solution only stays good for a few hours.
𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 - 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲
Pastel - 1/20 tsp (0,1g)
Soft - 1/8 tsp (1g)
Medium - 1/2 tsp (4g)
Strong - 1 tsp (8g)
Powerful - 2 tsp (16g)
𝟑) 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
Choose your favorite technique and follow the folding process.
Pleat, crumple, and fold your way to success.
When you're done, bind the shirt using rubber bands or string to secure it in place.
𝟒) 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
Using your dye bottle, apply the dye gently over the shirt. Use your favorite technique or let loose your creativity, there's no wrong way to do it!
𝟓) 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭
Leave the shirt in a warm room. The dye reacts better at a temperature of 70°F (20°C) or more.
Let the dye react for 8 hours or overnight.
𝟔) 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
Rinse your shirt in the sink under cold running water. Open up the shirt while rinsing. Continue rinsing and washing by hand until the shirt stops bleeding.
Soak the shirt in warm water to remove any remaining dye.
𝟕) 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
Machine wash the shirt by itself or with other tie-dye shirts for the first wash.
Cold wash with a small amount of detergent.
After the first time, you can wash your tie-dye shirt with other pieces of clothing.

Hi, I applied batik (tie dye) to a sweatshirt made entirely of cotton, but if you want it to stay in a small area, it dirty all the white areas. How do you wash, so that the white areas are not dyed? Thanks

I can only find hoodies that are, at best. 80% cotton & 20% polyester. Have you had any success with this kind of blend?

I did a trial run with a white tshirt and black dye. I let it sit almost 24hrs and when I rinsed it in cold water the black bled and made the entire shirt black/dark purple. What did I do wrong?

So after the bath do you wash then dry or just dry or????

  • @Chandye

The bath is for rinsing the excess dye. You then wash the shirt in the washing machine and dry it to make it ready.

As long as you follow the proper rinsing procedure there's not that much of a risk of staining the white areas.
