His body is NBA ready. He will contribute immediately with his energy and defense. He's a fierce competitor too. His mindset is really good.

@@astrahl Depends on your ceiling for him. If you're expecting a 3-and-D wing then he's 2-3 years from helping you just like almost every rookie As something more, yeah, super duper raw.

Big fan of his, I like his build and his cutting especially. He has awesome potential. For the spurs I would love Topic and Salaun. I trust the shooting on both

That would be a great combination. The Spurs are building something nice. Pops could nab another title or three before retirement.

I feel like I'd rather have the Spurs take a swing on somebody like him that can contribute to a playoff team 3 years down the road than to pick up a guy like Dillingham who is a little more polished now. I'd be ok betting on the body and effort with potential to be a good shooter. I wouldn't be sad to see us grab him at 8, but there are definitely others in that range that I think I like better.

Hand placement is big for him right now. He keans just a bit side to side at times in his jumper. Love his length, you can teach that. Had some dolod perimeter instincts. I mean teams will have to be a bit patient

Salaun is the best player in this draft

As with any draft prospect, I fully accept that I could end up feeling foolish down the line, but I just don’t get it with Salaun. I’ve seen him mocked to the Spurs at 8 and that makes even less sense to me. He’s projecting to be a few years away from being current day Mamu in a lot of ways, or competing to fill the exact same role as Sochan. And those appear to be optimistic comparisons. His defense was lauded in this video, but he is a bad defender right now. He has problems shooting and finishing at the rim (again, Spurs already have Sochan & Branham-how bad do they really want their offense to be?). Realistically, he is competing with Barlowe(a player he overlaps with perhaps more than anyone on their roster) to be called up from Austin. He is unlikely to be the BPA at 8, his skills overlap with multiple players on the roster, and he appears to be several years and a wish upon a star away from providing any of the things San Antonio needs, which is remarkable considering they need passing, shooting, shot creation, and defense.

He does overlap with Sochan but he projects as a better shooter and you really can't have too many big wings It's also a pure upside play because of his physical tools. If he's the best player from this draft in 6 years it wouldn't be even a little surprising. Of course he could also be back in Europe in 4

@@michaelahurt I keep hearing that about him having potentially the highest ceiling in the draft, and that line has come from multiple, respectable sources who know way more about evaluating prospects than I ever will. But it bothers me that in so many of those conversations/articles his body is often the first thing listed. Yes, he’s a big, strong guy for his age. However that size and build isn’t coupled with great athleticism, so I think it’s tough to say how much it matters that he’s strong. It just gives me the vibes of the scene in Moneyball when all the old scouts are talking about how handsome or muscular a player is rather than evaluating his actual impact on the game. An Aaron Gordon type who isn’t an elite athlete, doesn’t have a strong handle, can’t be expected to playmake, doesn’t have a go-to skill in a half court offense, and who is working toward being a plus defender just sounds like…well, NOT Aaron Gordon. Obviously the nature of this draft means he’ll go higher than usual, but he seems like a “build from the ground up” type of project. I can see the potential player people are projecting he could be, but to do so I’m squinting so hard I may have actually shut my eyes to reality.

@@classthoreau3541 Look at Shaq. It's a physical sport. Your physical gifts matter. It's better to draft another Bruno Caboclo or Sekou Doumbouya than to miss on the next Giannis And he still has a high floor if you buy the shooting. He's not a twitchy athlete but if you watch guys like Tatum or even Kevin Knox the way they move at that size matters. And Salaun has that. He's just huge and moves well

Is there any world where he could be a 3? He seems to move more like a wing than an Aaron Gordon type 4. Asking because spurs are very high on sochan and I can’t see him at the 3.

The greatest value in the draft, it seems, is mystery. The less they know about a player, the better they can project all the inflated expectations and silly comparisons and shine up a turd.

Questionable feel and instincts. If you're that athletic and long, why have you only blocked a handful of shots? Something is wrong there.

  • @pheralanpathfinder4897

Many wings don't get many blocks. It's even more difficult for a ten playing against professionals who are in their 20s. Struggling to finish at the rim is a much bigger concern for me. But he could be a 3&D type player as his shot improves.
