"On Thursday, Live Nation and its ticket broker subsidiary Ticketmaster announced a bold pledge. The company would be transparent with its captive consumers about how much it will extract from them for live entertainment. Ticketmaster’s junk fees would be exactly the same, but buyers would learn about them before checkout, instead of after.
The White House took a victory lap."

Ticketmaster and livenation are a monopoly. They need to be split. The ticket fees do not go to the artists or venues, nor can the artists ask for the tickets to be less.

The other problem is that LiveNation owns Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster and LiveNation literally have told the bigger venues (NBA/NHL arena's, NFL stadiums, amphitheaters,etc...) that if they don't use Ticketmaster as their primary source to sell tickets, artists will not be booked to play at their venues. They have also told the artists that they no longer have the option of who sells their tickets. Contractually speaking, that option now belongs to the event promoter. Which, for about 95% of ALL main stream musicians is.....LiveNation. it's literally a big circle jerk to screw the consumer and push as much money as possible to LiveNation.

It's that Ticketmaster is owned by Live nations entertainment , thats partly owned by Saudis , they own both the ticket sales and most venues to have concerts in US . It's a monopoly , when if you dont use their service , you cant book your band to any major venue in US or sell tickets . Thats already agains The Sherman Antitrust Act from 1890 , US congress is just ignoring it , because Saudis bribe near everyone .

Man, I miss the 80's. Not only did they have the best music & concerts, but you didn't need to take out a second mortgage to see them. Third party monopolies destroy everything they touch and expect for Swift, none of the artists raise a stink since they profit from the consumer gouging as well.

Yes! The most-punk punk band to ever have made music. They refused to play shows with high ticket prices, never made any shirts or merchandise to market to their fans, refused to give interviews to large music publications due to their choice of advertisers, AND they were vegan. Also, "waiting room" is a classic, but I'm partial to "shut the door" myself.

Did that customer floor seat beside the @lakers bench really cost over $38,000 for one game? $38,000 could literally pay off all of my nurse student loan debt and still have enough for a down payment on a house. This is insanity!

I have never been more ripped off in my life, ( with no one holding a gun to my head ) than with Ticketmaster ! $ 117 seats apiece x3, got there, they were nosebleed seats, no where the map showed and the climb up was a death grip hold. We went to the box office and were told they were sold by a 3rd party. How can that be when we went right on line, right when they went on sale, chose our seats, paid thru Ticketmaster and then get treated like crap!!!!!!!!🔥😡

I was so excited to see that my favorite band, TOOL, was coming to my area. Then I looked up tickets! The cheapest ticket was around $500, with the most expensive going for around $5000!!! How can anyone go to a concert these days? And those 'cheap' tickets were the worst seats you could find! I guess I'll NEVER get to see TOOL, bummer!!

Honestly, I do have pretty mixed feelings about this... Truth be told, I have a little bit of affection for Live Nation specifically because they do this annual $20 ticket sale where the cost is all inclusive... The $20 ticket sale was specifically why I got to go see Soundgarden and fulfill a dream long held by the grunge kid in my heart. Sadly, the show was two days before a series of unfortunate events unfolded, but it was all the more reason that I felt so glad to have had that opportunity. If I remember correctly, that ticket sale was also how I had decent seats to see Florence + the Machine. As a live music lover who is almost continuously strapped for cash because of the nature of my life (cason point right now where I'm barely dodging shut off notices and eviction orders while trying to move from my 1200 plus square foot apartment to an inexpensive studio somewhere in my city because the tech industry is volatile and I have nowhere to go, so it's that or living my car after August...lol) However, living in Omaha has given some really good opportunities as a lot of the local production companies that bring in solid indie shows utilize either local ticketing platforms or lesser known third party facilitators. I've been able to avoid using big names like Ticketmaster for the vast majority of shows I've attended in the last 5 years... I also have the opportunity to volunteer for a massive music festival every year and because of my volunteering for them, I often get free tickets to help promote the festival at other shows playing around town. A girl's got to be strategic, you know? But all this being said, I will admit to one of the things that I have found very frustrating about Ticketmaster aside from the exorbitant fees that they put up top for effectively no reason... It's the fact that back in the day before smartphones were really a thing and they would still mail you paper tickets unless you opted into printing them at home, providing the opportunity for you to print your tickets at home was a consistent way of saving money on things like the fees. At least then, it seemed reasonable enough to pay some level of cost in order to get the tickets printed and mailed to you because you would have tangible material in your hand, potential protection for them getting lost in the US postal service, and of course you also had the postage. As much as I love to collecting tickets, once they started issuing tickets where the ink would fade with time and therefore be essentially pointless to keep them, I simply moved to printing my own tickets and at that point, the cost of the show was typically the cost of the ticket plus any taxes with maybe a small facility fee. The part that I genuinely don't understand at this point is that the model has been adjusted. Up until COVID, if I recall correctly, you could still opt in to getting paper tickets mailed to you and in that, I would still be okay with fees, because at that point so many of us had the availability of smartphones that even printing the tickets was unnecessary. However, there was obviously a shift at COVID and at least here locally, you basically had to either use a digital ticket or print your tickets for yourself, marketed under the guise of protecting due to COVID. This would be all well and good except for the fact that this did not eliminate fees for the delivery of the ticket. Were you used to be able to produce the tickets for yourself for little to no fees at all, they now charge you the delivery fee to email you a ticket. The last time I utilized Ticketmaster for anything was to see one of my favorite bands play at a rather large venue here because you do what you got to do, at that point you effectively had to have their application installed on your phone in order to display the tickets and awake that could be scanned on entry, and the service and delivery fee was like 10 bucks per ticket. I understand if the utilization of a 24/7 CSM platform that issues those tickets to the applicable user account might ultimately cost the company a little bit of money per month because where they used to use it for only a portion of the audience members, now they effectively use it for virtually 100% of the audience members, I don't necessarily have a problem paying a higher service and facilities fee that would encompass both the utilization of the venue as well as the maintenance of that CSM platform... But I think it's ridiculous to go from charging $0 for a digital copy of the ticket to a typical double digit cost for the same electronic process. What it reminds me of is the retail model that has been discussed and a number of different discourse circles recently, the skepticism of things like the Amazon model... Whether merchant or a shopper, being bored into an almost dependency on the platform to obtain access to something You're more than willing and happy to pay money for to the point where they've absorbed almost all of the competition and it is a funnel for access... Because once The predominance was established, that's when they tacked on requiring you to pay them to email you a ticket... And it's insulting at this point considering the fact that they don't even email you a copy of the ticket these days unless you pay extra, that otherwise you're literally paying a fee to have them save your ticket in your digital tickets within their app.. So not only do they benefit from the traffic utilizing their application due to the requirement, but they charge you for something that doesn't even leave their digital platform.
