Dr. Liz Howard, DVM of Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center (LBEMC) discusses Tick Fever in Horses.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Liz Howard grew up in Oregon where she completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences and also graduated from veterinary school at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. After finishing her one year internship at LBEMC, Liz has stayed on as an associate veterinarian. Her professional interests include equine medicine, surgery, and reproduction. Outside of work Liz enjoys horseback riding, backpacking, skiing, and spending time with her husband, their three Labrador retrievers, and her 2 horses.
ABOUT LBEMC
Conveniently located in the community of Penryn, California, just northeast of Sacramento, LBEMC offers a practice unique to the area. With the exception of the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, LBEMC is the only facility in Northern California offering hospitalization, surgery and intensive care for horses. The original Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic was established in 1975 for both farm and companion animals. In 1991, the large animal clinic was established as an independent practice in order to improve patient care by focusing services primarily on horses. With the equine hospital opened in 2004, the practice was officially renamed Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center in 2005.
Today, LBEMC doctors bring a combination of specialty training focusing on continuing education, energy, and a commitment to quality health care for horses. Associate doctors are selected for their high professional standards, humanitarian spirit, and specific interest in horses.

I feel misdiagnosed. it's pretty sad in the world when you have to go to a horse doctor to get treated for your own "tick fever" in humans it's called Lyme disease.... i've been treated for every form of mental illness except for what I actually have stupid tick fever. now that I know what it is ,can I come find a horse veterinarian to treat me? I just feel like veterinarians actually care for the animals they take care of ,where as doctors and nurses don't. The symptoms cause some healthcare workers to treat you as if it's in your head. Wish someone cared about me the way people care about their animals. Thanks

Hi there, Our dog may have this, what can we do to help him get better? He is a miniature Dachshund. I've been giving him pumpkin because last week he chewed on my sons son and ate some of the fabric. He has vomited out the sock fabric but has been vomiting after he eats. I fasted him 24 hours and he doesn't vomit now. But unfortunately he has no energy and looks like he is anemic. I've been giving him foods rich in iron just today so hopefully that helps a little.

Thank you for your question. Most horses completely recover over a long period of time.
