They are very difficult to train. they were not intrebred or made by humans. they evolved in the Icy mountains of Tibet. The true ones have a black coat. Very aggressive and loyal. They used to guard Buddhist monasteries in the past. You need a big land and cold climate to keep these carnivores. And they look after themselves.

It is true that this is an ancient breed and likely the ancestor of all molosser breeds. But make no mistake. This dog WAS BRED BY HUMANS. That's what a dog breed is. A specifically bred decendant of wolves by humans. Otherwise this dog would never be loyal to humans and would be far more agressive towards humans. This dog did not simply evolve, it was bred. Do some research. Look it up.

If you're not going to get a working dog for it's intended purpose, you will most likely have to spend 4 hours day finding suitable substitute activities. Contact 3 dog trainers who have to work with aggressive dogs and have worked with this breed for advise.

I LOVE my 7 year old Tibetan Mastiff. He's a black & tan. He's a 175 pound (last time we weighed him) lazy mush who loves people, other dogs & is not aggressive. He's my body pillow. But we trained him from day1 because we knew how big he was going to be. However, I don't know what he would do if provoked. cornholio777 My TM is gentle & friendly with all kids. He'll just sit there & let them harass him. Fearless. Threatened by nothing (which is probably why he's not aggressive). Other unleashed dogs numerous times have run at him as if to attack. He stands there poised, staring straight ahead with a look in his eyes like, "Go ahead.". Fortunately, every dog just stopped in their tracks, turned around & walked away like, "Erm, nevermind.". He just barks too much! The protective nature. Their job was to protect the Tibetan monasteries for monks. The protection is in their blood. I feel bad for the sorry SOB who tries to break into our house.

My favorite type of dog. Intelligent, Strong-Willed, Tenacious, somewhat Aloof, but very Loyal and Loving! They're not just mammoth, brainless, beasts: They have a rare combination of traits that puts them (IMO) heads and shoulders above the competition. In the spring and fall, they shed, but If you cut down the double-coat that they have, you'll see that their more agile, mobile, and LESS furry. Upkeep is a must here, but they're AWESOME dogs for any dog-lover!

+Comicalsun (Ashley Nkollo) We have a golden too! Opposite dogs like yin-yang, but it's personality. Sleep together (literally spoon), eat together... total respect for each other. NEVER an issue. When the golden wants to play, our TM would be like, "I just want a nap.". We got a chill one without aggression. They have no fear, so not threatened. That's a good thing. We also made sure he knew he wasn't going to be the boss. He never had any issues with other dogs, but I'm sure they're all different. Sounds like a good breeder - one who cares.

For people that think that a tibetan mastiff would just beat an American Pitbull because of how big the tibetan mastiff is, here is a battle between an American Pitbull and a tibetan mastiff - my.mail.ru/bk/synthetic_generation/video/1/441.html They ended up having to pry the Pitbull off of the tibetan mastiff. Like I said, bigger does not mean better. While breeds like the tibetan mastiff are more about quantity (how big they are), the American Pitbull is about quality (ability and traits such as gameness). Your point was kind of irrelevant. The Mastiff was not bred the way a Terrier was bred. They were used for diffetent purposes. A Mastiff will be a better guard dog than a Terrier would be. Simply because the way they were used in the past. The Mastiff was never a dog bred for game.

jebrengl There are videos of American Pitbulls beating kangals and even making kangals run away (something I have never seen an American Pitbull do). This fight has the kangal run away, and they even give it a break before having the American Pitbull battle and beat it again - www.56.com/u45/v_OTYwODQ1MDY.html Fight where the kangal runs away from the American Pitbull after only five minutes with the American Pitbull chasing after it wanting more - my.mail.ru/bk/synthetic_generation/video/1/20.html Another fight where the kangal loses. They have to pry the American Pitbull off of the kangal - my.mail.ru/mail/billy_dancer/video/_myvideo/20.html But enough about these trashy illegitimate fights with hardly any rules or standards. I'm not saying that no kangal can ever beat a American Pitbull under any circumstance. I'm just saying it is obvious that the American Pitbull is the superior breed. We aren't even just talking about combat wise, because it's obvious that they are and pretty much everyone knows it. They are deemed the greatest by experts, are most common, most popular, and highest prized gladiators in the world to take on large animals in baiting matches and used to do battle in the sport of dog combat for a reason. These dogs were bred to control bulls and other large livestock animals on farms used to battle bulls and bears in combat sports, and are able to do excel at any canine task. They are obviously superior to kangals in almost every aspect which is why American Pitbulls are the go-to breed and kangals aren't.

A lioness can be killed by anything? You do know that they are the hunters 90% of the time, with that they get experience of killing. So what can kill a lioness? You do know they have no competition in the savanna right, if anything probably hyenas which a lioness by itself could kill one in a one to one scenario. This dog can not be killed by other dogs but a lion is not a dog. Lions, male lions since we would be talking about mane vs mane, are almost twice the size of these dogs and are much more powerful animals. With that they have very agile legs with claws that will tare this dog up. This dog is a hell of a dog but will lose to a lion in a fight easily

  • @edgarlombera7066

Pound for pound cats are stronger! this is the only reason I disagree. Id say a jaguar is a more even match for a Mastiff but even then Jaguars are very strong animals. A female lion can weight as much as 500 pounds. You seriously think a dog that only has biting as its only weapon, can take out an animal almost twice its size?

For people that think that a tibetan mastiff would just beat an American Pitbull because of how big the tibetan mastiff is, here is a battle between an American Pitbull and a tibetan mastiff - my.mail.ru/bk/synthetic_generation/video/1/441.html They ended up having to pry the Pitbull off of the tibetan mastiff. John Jimbob Force them to fight? Clearly you don't know how combat works or the American Pitbull breed. Maybe you are right about other animals being forced to fight (though it is said you cannot actually force something to fight and keep fighting) but it is not that way with the American PItbull, which is why they are the top breed for combat as well as other extreme, competitive sports like weight pulling. The dogs practically enjoy it which is why they can do it much better and far longer than any other and why the rules of combat actually do not allow for any attempt at forcing them to battle.

No doubt that the tibetan mastiff is a strong and tough breed, but people are overhyping this breed thinking that it is a great gladiator and can take large animals like bears and lions. The tibetan mastiff is one of the most overhyped, overly-expensive breeds with the main gimmick simply being its size. The worst part about it is that it has not really earned any kind of reputation by doing anything. People just look at it and think it is great and put a huge price tag on them thinking they can sell them for a lot by making people think they are much more than they actually are. Seriously, a dog that has a list of health concerns and is high maintenance should not cost that much money. Let people save that money for vet and grooming bills. People need to understand that bigger does not mean better. Take the American Pitbull for example, which is the toughest and greatest gladiator, athlete, and working dog ever, which was bred and is used to take on and control large animals like bulls, bears, and wild boar. Despite being the toughest, strongest pound-for-pound, and most versatile dogs, American Pitbulls don't get larger than 80 pounds. American Pitbulls were bred as farm dogs that would help and protect farmers from livestock, especially the bulls (bull is even in the name because). If a bull or whatever tried to attack the farmer, the American Pitbull would take it on and get it under control. I have even seen Pitbulls take on horses by themselves. The tibetan mastiff breed can't hold a candle to the American Pitbull breed overall. American Pitbulls are stronger, more athletic, tougher, more versatile, and are obviously greater gladiators that have been used to battle bulls and bears in gladiatorial competitions (things that tibetan mastiffs have never done). American Pitbulls dominate in strength and athletic sports like weight pulling. I have seen American Pitbulls pull over 12,000 pounds. On top of all that, American Pitbulls possess gameness (something that tibetan mastiffs don't have) which they will go to further lengths to do something or get a job done. And they are proven to have better temperaments than kangals when tested by the American Temperament Test Society. Tibetan mastiffs are better at guarding (which is what they were bred to do), but the American Pitbull has these dogs beat in basically every other aspect. Remember that bigger does not mean better.

Character Like I said, there's a reason why the American Pitbulls are the top gladiator dogs and the dogs used in strength sports like weight pulling and rotts are not. Go ask a professional in the sport of dog combat who would win between an American Pitbull and a rott and see what they say. They'd say that the rott will loose. They call rotts cur dogs. That means inferior dogs that do not possess gameness and are not American Pitbulls. They will say that an American Pitbull that loses to another dog is not a standard, conditioned, or game American Pitbull.

I didn't know they were "professionals" to you. No offense if that's what your into but if I ever saw a couple of scrawny dudes instigating their dogs to fight, I'd put them down right then and there, not ask them a question about dog fighting. Pittbulls from the time dog fighting was legal were "gladiators". The breed has evolved into a more suitable dog for civilization...Now a days, the bigger dog almost always prevails.

Character Yeah, professionals. The very people that take part in the sport and actually know what they are talking about that knows the greatest and toughest dog. This is why you will not see a rott do things like this - youtubeonrepeat.com/watch/?v=xbZKYE-Q6ts And the American Pitbull is still doing the things it has always done. That is a combat sport that took place this year. You have no idea what you are talking about. The breed didn't change. It's still as strong, great, and as tough as ever still the top gladiator.

Personally I don't like AMPT, and please don't come to this video to try to sway people as pitbulls don't have the looks, and are naturally aggressive, doesn't matter the owner, a dog has an instinct, if you raise a Belgian Malinois with love would it not have a working instinct? No. (They're banned where I live in Britain) Plus, some people don't want powerful dogs for the sheerness of toxic masculinity. Complete bulshit. I agree that the dog in the video is all show line and are all about looks. The original tibetan mastiff that are guarding sheep in tibetan plateau are much more energetic, agile and very very aggressive. If confronted with pitbull, the real tibetan mastiff would take less than 5 minutes to completely RIP it. The original tibetan mastiff are EXTRENELY rare because all the market was after show lion-looking dog that can't fight or work in the tibetan plateau. How rare u say, a conservation team once visited the extreme rural place of tibet and in 2 months, only found 6 purebred dogs. Others are all mixed. These dogs live in 5000m elevation above sea level enduring -50°C temperature fighting wolves and chasing snow leopard, u think it will lose to freaking 50 lbs pitbull? What kind of weed you smoking? You know how aggressive original tibetan mastiff are?? Now don't go on saying u have seen original tibetan mastiff because these dogs are pretty much never on social media. In the ruralness of tibetan plateau, the higher u go, the more likelyhood of finding tibetan mastiff pure blood (preferably over 4500meters) some dogs are running around with livestock at 6000 meters elevation. Your favorite dog pitbull can prolly not even survive living in that high elevation (low oxygen level) for a day. Also, I see you literally everywhere preaching about pitbull. Like calm down bro. No one is getting convinced when u bullshit like that. U keep bringing weight pulling shit. Like com'on if u train these livestock guard dog, they can pull thousands of pounds too. In America, ur dog is simply a pet without any task but companion, therefore they involve in sports like weight pulling with extreme amount of training. The dogs from tibet, central Asia, Caucasus etc have work to do, that is to fight wolves and chase bears in order to protect sheep. If these dogs had no functions like pitbull in America, they could be trained to pull crazy weights too.. but no, these dogs have actual job to do. Tibetan mastiff, caucasian volkodav, alabai, kangal, kazakh tobet, kyrzyg dobot, dagestan/karachay/chechnya volkodav, Georgian nagazi, Armenian gampr, azerbaijani qurdbasar etc can all absolutely kill pitbull Now I know there are individual dogs that are weak within any breeds, so don't even bother sending links of fights. Most of the time, these fights are staged where they choose the weakest dog of these livestock guardians. Look at champion caucasian volkodav like Goroch, Malish, Pirat Balkan, Kaplan, Spartak, Baturkhan, Khoda, or alabai like akgush etc. Take one of these dogs to fight champion pitbull, the pitbulls will be decimated in 5 minutes. Take kangals from working line, they will kill pitbull. These tibetan mastiff (aborginal) type had a very specific selection method back in the days and still do for the extremely rare original type. The dog had to be able to catch a man from a running horse. And another selection method is obviously killing wolves. These kind of selection and the dogs mates and their puppies get the gene from these superb dogs. And of course traditional dog fighting. I know that pitbull mentally is the best fighter dog because of its gamenesss and ability to just keep fighting. I respect that trait, however comparing pitbull to these wolf killers is a disrespect. The kind of argument u have will only stir up more hate for already hated pitbull fanboy community

@@j.rabbit2024 u r wrong regarding tibetan mastiff health. Yes I know the dogs like the ones in this video are unhealthy. That's because Chinese have mixed breed and artificially selected only for looks and show. No real instinct. The real tibetan mastiff, which is extremely rare and found only in tibetan plateau areas over 4500 meter elevation, are wild like dog. Extremely aggressive, insanely adaptable (I don't know any other breed that can run in the mountains over 6000meters sometimes) and very independent. These dogs sometimes would look after the entire flock of sheeps alone without human shepherd for up to 5-6 days. They killed rodents and other small preys for food themselves. In the internet, I have almost NEVER seen a purebred tibetan mastiff. All of them are mix. This is because the place that has purebred are extremely rural and barely has internet. We are talking 4500+meter elevation above sea level. And these dogs live extremely healthy. I know individual tibetan mastiffs in northern nepal (himalayas) where a tibetan mastiff lived 20 years.in tibetan plateau there are dogs frequently living 16-18 years. And the dogs I am talking about has never seen a veterinarian. These dogs originated as a result of natural selection, so disease and joints condition are EXTREMELY rare. The natural selection over 2000+ years have taken care of the weak unhealthy dogs, only the healthiest and strongest had survived.
