I strongly believe that Charlotte has offered to help Tianna with her finances in the past, especially after her father died, but Tianna refused because of her belief in working hard to get what you want and Charlotte respected Tiana's wishes. I love their friendship 💖

That’s what I thought too, and it would make sense because Tianna grew up with a mindset that SHE should be the one to complete her fathers dream, not get help from Charlotte who would gladly give her any money she needed.

I was coming here to say this. It would be against Tiana's character to accept a handout. She accepted Lottie's money for the baked goods for the party because that was a business transaction, though. Lottie is one of my favorite characters and a great friend, IMO.

I love the detail of Lottie having a dress particularly for Tiana: all her clothes (... well, LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THE ROOM) are pink except that one. Because that dress is for Tiana 🩵🩵🩵

My favorite thing about this movie: Lottie has an aesthetic. Everything she owns is pink, she has a pink bed, pink dresses, pink tables and walls and even that floofy makeup thing is pink. Everything she has is pink, except an absolutely gorgeous blue dress and matching tiara that just so happens to be a perfect fit for her best friend.

I always felt that Tiana always felt too proud to take Charlotte & Big Daddy's money without working for it. I figure that's why they ate at the dinner every monring as a way to support Tiana in ways that Tiana would be willing to accept it. The way Charlotte loves Tiana, especially in the setting that they live in, I can easily see Charlotte being insistent on to help Tiana in any way she can, inlcuding giving her cooking jobs like we saw. Tiana & Charlotte are both stu born characters, so I can see these things being a medium of Charlotte's help and what Tiana would accept. Charlotte's a great character. She's someone who's rich, spoiled, and lives a much less grounded life, so you'd probably expect her to be too self involved or even shady in some way, but she's not. She's actually really caring and selfless. I love Tiana & Charlotte's friendship...

The voice of Ray is Jim Cummings, who is also the voice of Winni the Pooh and did Scar in the last verse of “Be Prepared” after Jeremy Irons lost his voice from singing. (Check out “I know that Voice” doc which is about the voice acting world and features a ton of voice actors. Including Jim.)

  • @HobGungan

I don't want to diminish the awesome talent of Jim Cummings, who has had a long and storied career doing many memorable voices and is one of the best voice actors of the last 30-40 years. That being said, it kind peeves me when the first thing anyone says about him is that he's "the voice of Winnie the Pooh". He is the CURRENT official voice of Pooh, because he does an impressive impersonation of Pooh's ORIGINAL voice actor Sterling Halloway, who also originated Cheshire Cat, Kaa, Roquefort, and many many others. Cummings is a legend, but so is Halloway, and Halloway needs more recognition as Pooh.

The TV was old and didn’t have a remote, and at some point in the past, somebody had tried to color correct the TV and everything you watched on it had a massive red filter. (With other movies and TV shows, everybody look like they had massive sunburns lol.) But this movie became an hour and a half long acid trip, especially the voodoo parts! This was both creepy and hilarious to watch on that old TV so late night. Lol

fun fact: Mardi Gras has run continuously every year in New Orleans since 1857. It has been cancelled 14 times over the years: during the civil war (1862-65), during Reconstruction (1875) due to white supremacy violence, yellow fever outbreak (1879), WW1 (1918), Spanish Flu Epidicmic (1919) which was used for precedent for cancelling carnival in 2020, WW2 (1942-45), Korean War (1951), a NOPD strike (1979), and finally, as previously mentioned, during the Covid Pandemic of 2020. There were some speculation that carnival would be cancelled post Katrina in 2006, but the city desperately needed the influx of funds from people that were willing to come, like me and my husband. Yeah, Mary. This movie was the last time that Disney did their films in hand-drawn, 2D animation and it was the most magical since Aladdin which was a couple of years earlier. From that moment on, the company ushered in a new era where you’ve seen most of their movies such as Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana and a few others; with Frozen as their crown jewel that replaced The Lion King after 19 years of being undefeated until 2013. The reason of why you see many French aspects is because in colonial times of America, Louisiana was once owned by the French before being purchased by the Americans. That’s why they have Mardi Gras in February since “Mardi” means Tuesday and the people who are Cajun use several French terms when it happens to be a fusion of English and French. As a matter of fact, the state itself was named after the king of France at the time, King Louis XIV, like how the Philippines was named after King Philip II of Castile from the Spanish. Lastly, you were wondering why Tiana didn’t ask Charlotte for any financial support. It’s because she wanted to uphold her father’s advice about putting some effort to get what you want in this world when we all know that if we want something, we have to earn it. However, the one thing that he wanted for Tiana the most was to never close her heart as time passes by when she’s heavily focused in her livelihood. Plus, what really confused me is that how someone like Doctor Facilier, a man who has the ability to conjure up anything with dark magic, believes that money is true power when they’re just pieces of paper that only have value when people say it does. As for Prince Naveen and Charlotte, they are true people to hold on to because like you said, Naveen was able to turn his life around when he met someone who can do anything if they put their minds into it and she, despite being born into a well-privileged family, was there for Tiana when she was down and was willing to sacrifice her wish for her happiness. Apologies for this summary but I know that you’ll find this information helpful since it gives you some insight in this analysis and some interesting facts if you have any further questions. 😉

About your request for Disney animation suggestions: I would try, first and foremost, "The Little Mermaid" (1989). It was the movie that started the modern Disney animation era after a couple of decades of decline after Walt's death. Beautiful artwork, simple yet graceful story and groundbreaking music from composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman (they won two Oscars, two Grammys and two Golden Globes for the movie's music.) And it was the last Disney feature film to use the traditional hand-painted coloring system that went back to the 1920s; after this it was all computer digitized coloring. All in all, my favorite movie ever.

"They are so lucky they're not living in France, bc they would be eaten!" Lol, you know we eat frogs in Louisiana too, right? Also, in case there was some confusion, Australian Mardi Gras is not the same as the New Orleans Mardi Gras.

Jambalaya and Gumbo are two of those "regional" dishes where you can have decent versions at a number of places (in the US), but if you want to have the best of it, you have to go to southern Louisiana. And in my humble opinion, you won't get it in New Orleans, but in the small communities outside the city. New Orleans eateries tend to have stylized touristy versions.

35:04 - In other words, you don't want Repo! A Genetic Opera-style non-stop music, potential wiggle-room for Blues Brothers-esque musical numbers for their own sake as long as they're good, but primarily music that's properly interwoven with the narrative to convey aspects of the plot. Got it: A lot of Disney Renaissance-era movies are like that (Aladdin, Hercules, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc.) The Emperor's New Groove, Tangled, and Treasure Planet are lighter on musical moments but still utilize them with the same efficiency too.

Thanks Mary for showing this love. ❤ HOT TAKE: This Disney princess is less known because she is Black. It's the first movie I heard people saying Disney is pushing agendas. Christians boycotted it over voodoo. Black people were upset saying it relied on too many stereotypes and being a frog for most of the movie.

1.The movie was actually partly inspired by the 2002 novel _The Frog Princess_ which, in turn, is based on the German fairy tale _The Frog Prince._ 2. Fun fact for those who don't know: The appearance Dr. Facilier, the Shadow Man, (voiced by the legendary Keith David) is based on the voodoo loa Baron Samedi. 3. If you want recommendations, might I suggest my top three favorite Disney movies: _Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin,_ and _The Lion King._ The animated originals, not the live-action remakes.

We're birthday buddies?! Whoa. Also, this movie has what might be the last great Disney villain song in it, "Friends on the Other Side" (though that depends on your opinion of "Mother Knows Best" from Tangled).

While this was the last 2D Disney princess movie, the last 2D Disney movie was “Winnie the Pooh” from 2011. I remember back then, Disney said they were going to try to alternate between 2D and 3D animation each year. And I was so bummed when that trend seemed to not be the case when Frozen was revealed to be 3D. 😞 Gorgeous movie, but still. I wish we had that variety.

I can’t wait for the upcoming Disney+ Princess and the Frog sequel series that Walt Disney Animation Studios is working on called Tiana, which I hope is fully 2D/hand-drawn animated, but may get turned into The Princess and the Frog 2 for movie theaters to be given the huge budget, money, and resources to make it fully 2D/hand-drawn animated, especially if Moana 2 (which was turned from a series on Disney+ to a theatrical movie) does well at the global box office.
