THX World (1993) [4K] [FTD-1446]
Фильм және анимация
35mm 4K film scan
For those about to comment and declare there is something wrong with the sound on the deep note, the original soundtrack on the print is overmodulated causing the distortion. Most prints of this were mono to be used as a trailer, but licensed THX cinemas received this Dolby A stereo surround version.

Nice to finally hear the stereo version!
Imagine what the 70mm blow-up would sound like... If the trailer even had a 70mm blow-up that is known to exist.

@@BLEEMORALEST there was that newly built DIY 70mm scanner someone built and scanned the CyberWorld trailer with it, which was IMAX 70mm, so scanning 5-perf 70mm could be possible someday
You'd think there would have only been Stereo copies, and only sent to THX theaters. Regarding the mono prints: 1. Why would they want to promote THX in ordinary theaters with mono? Makes the brand seam bad. 2. Makes for an awkward situation for the theaters sent these having a trailer that is telling the audience to see that film at a THX theater, AKA not the one they're seeing the trailer in.

It was quite awkward to have mono versions of this exist, but it seemed to be that mono was generally the norm, with the Dolby Stereo versions--and/or printmasters for those--being uncommon or only on home video versions of these trailers. Makes you wonder if the 4-channel stems for those Dolby Stereo 35mm prints and printmasters are even discrete on 70mm blowups
Nice to hear a true Dolby mix of this teaser, but the distortion on the Deep Note is awful. I understand the soundtrack is over-modulated, but still, if this Dolby mix was exclusive to THX cinemas, and counted as the trailer before the movie (ala simpsons and grand trailers), AND had the soundtrack issues, this was some pretty poor quality control on whoever was in charge of printing this.
I wish someone could find a 35mm print of Mickey Mouse in Runaway Brain (1995).

This is only a curiosity to ask but.. how’s that print of the original mix of Cimarron doing? I heard from folks that there’s been some legal issues about it?

There are no legal issues about it. Also, FT Depot hasn’t set up his 70mm scanner yet.

You think Paramount had to license the THX Broadway trailer from Lucasfilm?

@The_X-PO_Center I believe Paramount had to pay a good chunk of change to do so. I also believe that 20th (Simpsons clip from 1994) and DreamWorks (Over the Hedge from 2006) had to do the same.
This THX trailer turns out to be a teaser trailer for Wayne's World 2 (1993). THX is a trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd.

@@leet7489Not to mention George Lucas is pretty cool with parodies of his work. He gave the thumbs up to Spaceballs (iirc ILM did some of the effects), not to mention he told Mad Magazine to ignore his own company's C&D letter and continue writing Star Wars parodies.
