35:38 - So damn spot on. The margins are what makes a difference. The margins are where the power resides. The stuff about doing legwork to find something different I have to disagree with though. There certainly are acts out there where you feel like you find something new, where there is innovation, and even rarity in finding it. Even in this day and age where filesharing has completely exploded, and spotify is taking over and all that, there still are bands and albums you just can't find more than a snippet of. There still is music left to explore. Saying it won't affect an entire generation, or what ever, is pure nonsense. You can't see the forest for the trees, and you can't pinpoint greatness before it's reached that status unless you're already in the movement, and even then you can't see the cultural impact.

Looking back in hindsight it is funny to consider how the label "black metal" got attached. The same thing happened with punk. It seems simultaneously a blessing and a curse. Sometimes funny, sometimes irritating. As a musician, you get stuck into that definition, and the true scope of your artistic vision can be clouded

Glad Mayhem was open to electronic/ambient/noise music back in the days. Meet this black metal moron lately that could not just understand electronical and experimental music. I can understand such critic from people that are into Bon Jovi and Brian Adams, but a black metal person have to understand that it is not easy listening music either (it is ok not to like something, but I dont need a 10 minute explanation. I rather start a fight). So cheers to Mayhem for breathing a bit outside the box, not just listening to Venom and Celtic Frost 24/7. Get inspiration from the outside.
