Hearing Thurston Moore saying "I´ve always been an incredible Mayhem enthusiast" is the most unexpected statement I´ve ever heard...

Awesome Interview! I never thought i'd see these two peoples in the same room, talking and having similarity! Love Sonic Youth and Mayhem.
In all honesty, Sonic Youth and Mayhem are very similar in which they are very extreme bands in their respective genres. It’s cool to see Thurston and Jørn just chatting away.

In so happy & excited that Necrobutcher has written the book! And this interview is awesome...Joern seems to be a humble dude and he and Mayhem deserves to reap some positive fruits!Mayhem? Mayhem!
Excellent interview. Thank you
Thanks for the upload. Great interview.
Necro is a cool down to earth guy.
Nice interview, looking forward to the 2nd book!
I live in Ski on the other side of the cementary where Euronymous is buried too and work in Langhus where Mayhem was founded
I love Sonic Yourh and Mayhem since i was a teenager, (1997) great interview!
Been real pleasure watching those two great artists, whose musical output I happen to admire in my own way.

A very good interview. How great that 'so called' opposites meet and show their commonality while NEVER sacrificing who they are as individuals. Dig IT!
Thurston Moore and Necro Butcher on the same stage...I have officially hit the end of the internet.
That's a great interview, never knew Jørn is a huge fan of the Beastie Boys
35:38 - So damn spot on. The margins are what makes a difference. The margins are where the power resides. The stuff about doing legwork to find something different I have to disagree with though. There certainly are acts out there where you feel like you find something new, where there is innovation, and even rarity in finding it. Even in this day and age where filesharing has completely exploded, and spotify is taking over and all that, there still are bands and albums you just can't find more than a snippet of. There still is music left to explore. Saying it won't affect an entire generation, or what ever, is pure nonsense. You can't see the forest for the trees, and you can't pinpoint greatness before it's reached that status unless you're already in the movement, and even then you can't see the cultural impact.
Props to Jørn. Duran Duran's "Rio" is indeed a great album.
Nice interview. ......Kool Thing

For Thurston Moore : Gustav Mahler was not a Hitler sympahth. He lived 7 July 1860 - 18 May 1911) He was also Jewish, and his music was banned by Nazis.

Looking back in hindsight it is funny to consider how the label "black metal" got attached. The same thing happened with punk. It seems simultaneously a blessing and a curse. Sometimes funny, sometimes irritating. As a musician, you get stuck into that definition, and the true scope of your artistic vision can be clouded

In 1987 my Sonic Youth & ‘ alternative’ rock music loving chum Peck was very pissed - off because his new Killing Joke album ( Brighter than a thousand suns ) was disappointing - because in his words it , “ sounds like fucking Aha “ - So at least after 34 years and hearing these fellows admit to enjoying the odd bit of mainstream music , I can square a circle between Norwegian Pop & Un Pop music and Sonic Youth ...🙄🏴❤️new forest chicken coop pixies

Glad Mayhem was open to electronic/ambient/noise music back in the days. Meet this black metal moron lately that could not just understand electronical and experimental music. I can understand such critic from people that are into Bon Jovi and Brian Adams, but a black metal person have to understand that it is not easy listening music either (it is ok not to like something, but I dont need a 10 minute explanation. I rather start a fight). So cheers to Mayhem for breathing a bit outside the box, not just listening to Venom and Celtic Frost 24/7. Get inspiration from the outside.
