Thurman Munson, June 7, 1974 - August 2, 1979

"Munson Bats Way Into Line-Up" - Joseph M. Sheehan,
The New York Times, March 23, 1970
"Perhaps the most interesting of the three indicated new Yankee regulars - the others are Danny Cater at first base and Curt Blefary in right field - is Thurman Munson, slated at this stage of the preseason campaign to take over the No. 1 catching job...
Being thrown into the crucible with so little background doesn't faze Munson a bit. In fact, he revels in it.
"I welcome the challenge," the chubby-faced backstop says in his soft-spoken but intense way. "There'll be rough spots here and there, I realize, but they don't worry me. I'm not a worrying type, I guess."
(Music: "The Parting Glass" performed by The Mighty Regis)
