Thunderstorm near Montreal - June 28th, 2021

A video compilation of an isolated non-severe thunderstorm that affected the Huntingdon-Ormstown sub-area/corridor during the early-afternoon. At the same time, a separate heavy rainfall affected the West Island. Thunderstorms were associated with a weak cold front, with a pre-frontal environment characterized by moderate instability that had been driven by substantial solar heating and very high humidity. Deep WSW shearing fields allowed for some organization and fast-moving convection. The later pictures in the video showcase the quickly weakening cumulonimbi that produced heavy rainfall to my South during the late afternoon. The anvil from one of these spread over my area and displayed some nice mammatus formations (i.e. those globules of protruding cloud at the underside of the anvil)!
Footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal’s West Island. Radar imagery is courtesy of NOAA.
