Thunderstorm near Montreal - August 5th, 2020

A short video compilation showing a mid-morning isolated non-severe thunderstorm that passed closely to the North of the island of Montreal (over the Northern fringe of Laval). Due to previous sunlight earlier in the morning, as well as high humidity and marginally steep mid-level cooling rates, instability was sufficiently high (but still low) to allow for sparsely-distributed deep convection ahead of a cold front, and attendant positive vorticity advection associated with a shortwave trough. Continued strong shearing fields allowed for some prolonged sustenance and relatively fast movement.
Footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal’s West Island.
