Peter Thomas (Forensic Files) is considered by many of his peers to be the greatest voice in American broadcasting. Received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and served in 5 major campaigns including the Battle of Normandy and Battle of the Bulge. A great American.

He was the voice of my childhood! He voiced several combat documentaries and as a child of the early 90s, I ate that stuff up every weekend with my grandpa.

I wasn't that old when they invaded, but still remember enough. On behalf on all Kuwaitis, I truly thank all of you for liberating my country. To all who served from the bottom of my heart thank you. I cant offer much but in the unlikely event that if any of you visit here again you have a place to stay. Bless you all.

Like maybe they just have lots of pain and want to die more than kill but then find comradeship and a reason to live when they join up or maybe they fall for the propaganda

I was with 1/7 Cav 1st CD holding 70k at the wadi Al Batin from the beginning of the air war until we invaded Iraq. Between the bombing, our air troops harassment, the psy-ops guys blasting music between warnings of the following nights bombing raids ( all day everyday ), the mlrs prep the night before the invasion ( far and away the most awe inspiring show of fire power I’ve ever seen), and our ground troops popping any vehicles that wandered too close to our lines I can tell you I almost felt bad for the Iraqis.

They provided 6 aircraft carriers. That's a lot of firepower. Understatement of the decade

Peter Thomas voice is the best.. I can listen to him over and over again.. Forensic files best narrator of all time.

The A-10 is one of the best close air support platforms in the military inventory. All four services benefit from this aircraft. As a marine combat vet in the Gulf War I felt confident crossing over into Kuwait.

Yeah they really had dialed it in over there, surprise don’t mess with these gents they’ll make you wish you hadn’t. They performed very well and we owe them a debt of graditude for putting thier lives in the line. Now we’re into a new age today others learned some new tricks too watching us there. Now it’s time to change up program throw in some different things to keep us on game. With our best game plan and talent machines that out perform any other flyers we might meet up with we shall do the same again if required . You guys make me proud I’ve some ideas you would love to hear about maybe we can get some time in to share ideas my thoughts would be a game changer if you’re interested! I was alive through the Vietnam war. When this war started I was worried that it could be a long war again. I wish we would have finished it then so we didn’t have to go back in the 2000’s. Chrystal balls would have been nice.

These videos bring back memories of being a kid, I remember my dad had got me the hole time life WWII series and I use to binge watch it, the f111s are one of my favorite planes, I wish we never got rid of them and the F14s, the Phoenix missles are no joke...

The F-14 Tomcat was and is a very special plane. The engineering and technology that went into were first rate and very innovative, especially with its swing-wing design, which provides a phenomenal combination of high speed and excellent maneuverability. No other plane in the world can do what the Tomcat could and can do. Sadly, it was retired after the cold war was over and long range threats from Soviet bombers no longer existed. Unfortunately, the powers that be that cancelled the Tomcat program were not very forward thinking and just a few short years later, our aircraft carriers are now facing the very real threat of long range anti-ship missiles. To counter this threat, a very high speed interceptor/fighter is needed to be able to intercept enemy planes that can launch these anti-ship missiles. Both the F/A-18 Hornet and F-35 the Navy currently is using are about 400 mph slower than the F-14 Tomcat, leaving them comparatively very deficient in defending our aircraft carriers. That's a huge speed advantage the F-14 Tomcat provides and can make the difference between one of our aircraft carriers being hit with anti-ship missiles or not. The need for the F-14 Tomcat has once again arisen, if that need ever even went away. Grumman has the next evolutionary step of the F-14 Tomcat all ready to go in blueprints. It's an amazing, even better plane than the F-14 Tomcat and is known as the F-14 Super Tomcat. This plane needs to be built and the sooner the better. As a side benefit, building this plane would put thousands of Americans to work at a time we need that most. @@dorispagfi8247 Sadly no. It was an F-15. Unfortunately the only air to air kill the F-14 recorded in the Gulf War was against and Iraqi helicopter.

I remember being amazed at the firepower and especially the technology. The weapons we have now are downright scary, even to those whose job it is to deploy them. A.I. will come into play heavily in future wars.

I remember when I was a kid watching the aircraft flying over my grandmother's house. My dad told me it was a air show for my fifth birthday. I couldn't believe how many aircraft were flying over. Aug 9th. It was wave after wave. I watched everything on tv. Little did I know I would be in both those countries. I went over in the push. Been all over the middle east and Europe.

The way those pilots work as a unit at such high speed is impressive to say the least.

I was there during the Gulf War as a civilian employee of Bechtel Corporation. We were constructing the King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) Project in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This became one of the biggest US military base during the Gulf War. Just days after Iraq invaded Kuwait on Aug. 2, 1990, Bechtel evacuated most of it’s employees, they chartered planes and flew them back to their countries of origin. I was one of the few essential employees Bechtel management asked to stay to operate the essential airport utilities like the Jet Fuel Tank Farm, Apron Jet Fuel Hydrants and Fueling System, Central Plant, Central Water Pumping Station and Sewage Lift Stations. I and my other Bechtel colleagues operated the utilities to provide Jet Fuel to the US Jet planes, air conditioning, potable water to the US Military and Coalition Forces. The airport was just partially completed and not yet commercially operational then. The first C-130 US Air Force plane landed at KFIA on Aug. 15, 1990. There were no operational airport communications systems then, the C-130 landed visually and was guided with a pick up with a Follow Me sign painted on a plywood. to the Terminal Apron. After this first landing the A10 Jet planes from Germany flew in. Military personnel and equipment started to build up. I could still remember the start of the war on Jan. 16, 1991 when the war started. I was in the camp and saw all the war planes taking off, Operation Desert Storm has started. At night we would run to the bomb shelter every time there is a Iraqi Scud Missile attack. I was there side by side sitting with the American soldiers. Proud to have served the US Military during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. I was there during the entire duration of the Gulf War operating the airport utilities to support our US Military.

They mentioned the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing. My homies from Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach Florida. My dad was stationed at Hurlburt Field which is part of Eglin. Hurlburt Field is where Jimmy Doolittle and his Raiders practiced short take offs for the mission to light up Tokyo. 33rd use to practice touch and go landings where the runway crossed US-98. If you're not use to it it surprises you. C130 Spectre Gunships also are also stationed at Hurlburt and it will startle you when it crosses 98 at tree top level. My dad supervised fueling the C130s.

As a member of the Canadian Army, I watched the news shots of the airpower so precisely carve-up the thought to be powerful forces of Saddam's military and was so proud of our brothers in arms fighting this evil man who needed to be put down like the rabid dog that he was. And then cheered the victory like a world Championship had been won, it reminded me a little of a date that was very important to my country but not on the same scale, of when we defeated the Russians for the World Championship of Hockey in 1972. I was in Germany at the time and was on a Major war games with all the allied countries in Nothern Germany, and we all gathered around radios that broadcast the final game in Russia and when Canada won the whole place erupted in a bang people from many nations were hugging and cheering, we partied all night. You see it wasn't just a hockey game it was their way life against our ( the free world ) way of life and we won.

When I lived in western Massachusetts I lived in Chicopee during the Gulf War those giant big green planes that would hold tanks would fly over Chicopee it was sound like a train slamming on his brakes and the metal grinding. Westover Air Force Base was super busy during the war those giant planes were taking off one every 30 minutes for hours and hours I will never forget that I was 14. Those players would fly over and you can feel the vibration in your chest

I contracted at the Lockheed plant in Marietta, GA in the late 90s. C5s and C130s landing and taking of, many per hour. I feel you. Awesome time I remember fondly.

I was working in Riyadh and on the 9 o'clock evening news on the 9th of January(1991) they showed James Baker arriving at his press conference - this was just after Tariq Aziz had rejected President Bush's final ultimatum for Iraqi forces to withdraw from Kuwait. I remember the look on Mr Baker's face, and said to the others watching: "That's it, this sh*t is going down". The "air war" started at midnight Riyadh local time Wednesday 16th January (or 00:00 hrs Thursday 17th January if you like) when F-15 bombers took off from the Old Airport. I was living in an apartment in Olayah. It was a hell of a noise; maybe went on for up to 15 mins. I put my gas mask on and went back to sleep. They (the F-15s) returned 4-5 hours later (still dark) accompanied by the noise of air raid sirens - not sure why that was?

I was so afraid for all the service men. In my mind, I was praying for an entire new generation of people caught up in a war that would change their lives forever. Thank you Lord.

I was a F-18 pilot who sat in an F-15. I was so jealous of the legroom. All comfort has a cost ;)

The a-10 is one of the best close air support of all time it can hang around for a very long time and it can deliver a lot of ordinance where you want it is a beast and I love the plane when you see the a-10 you know hell is going to come down I wouldn't want to be the guy on the receiving end

Its not the prettyest plane in the sky but if you were head down bum up in the shit, there would be no more beautifull sight or sound on earth than that winged beast dropping in to help out. It would be a Huge dis-service to the guys on the ground if the US cans that asset.

The logistics to initiate and pursue the campaign are just staggering… a salute to all who participated.

My uncle was a CF18 pilot. He spoke proudly of his role in the war. He flew cover for American carriers in the Strait of Hormuz

I was aboard the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) during Desert Shield. We were just coming off a Med cruise when Kuwait was invaded and almost to Norfolk. Because my enlistment would have been over on the deployment back, they left me in Norfolk Naval Air Station on TAS (temp assigned duty) for a few weeks. The call of duty was very strong, I almost changed my mind and reenlisted. But I had a killer job lined up with my fathers company and I was next in line for ownership, so I got out. Now I am the owner and my boys are in line when they get out of the Army. When I see shows like this, it makes me kind of disappointed I wasn't a part of it.

@@vincegedeon6583 that is nonsense best way to avoid SAMS is to fly low. Manpads can shoot extremely low but has problems because low attitude airplane goes over so fast there is no time to acquire target.

You guys really kicked ass with the 48 brand new Strike Eagles that you guys brought over. "Though in the middle of transitioning from the F-4 Phantom II to the F-15E Strike Eagle, the 4th TFW was one of the first units called to the Middle East following Iraq's invasion. At this time, the 336th Tactical Fighter Squadron Rocketeers were the only fully converted squadron flying the Strike Eagle. They, with select crews from the 335th Tactical Fighter Squadron Chiefs, deployed on short notice to Seeb Air Base, Oman in August 1990. Here they trained and prepared to defend against what was, at that time, thought to be an inevitable push into Saudi Arabia by Saddam's forces. The 336th TFS flying 1,088 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm. The unit dropped more than six-million pounds of bombs on Scud missile sites, bridges and airfields. Flying mostly night missions." Heck the F-15E had just reached it Initial Operational Capability(IOC) at the end of September 1989 and it deployed to sees combat in a full air war less than 18 months later. As a comparison, In all, "sixty-six F-111Fs and 18 F-111Es were deployed in the 1991 Iraq War, flying 5,000 missions." The F-111 only flew 4,000 missions in Vietnam after a test in 1968 which saw 3 of 6 F-111's crash due to the same issue with the horizontal stabilizer. Rework was done and when reintroduced in 1972 with only 6 losses for those 4000 missions. Desert Storm occurred at an awkward time for the US. F-15E had just started up, F-111 was more than well established eventually retired in 1996 with the electronic warfare EF-111 retired in 1998. The SR-71 had just been retired for the first time, General Schwarzkopf was nonplussed about that capability not being available. The USAF got their last 10 brand new E's in 2001 along with the last lot of F-16s. "Having a sturdier airframe rated for twice the lifetime of earlier variants, the F-15E is expected to remain in service past 2025. As of December 2012, the USAF's F-15E fleet had an average age of 21 years and an average airframe flying time of 6,000 hours. In 2012, the USAF was reportedly considering future options; no replacement for the F-15E is slated." I'm pretty sure that the F-15EX is based off the same wing structure as the F-15E, which is good as the C/D wing was having some issues that in 2007 grounded the F-15 fleet with the E's being cleared for flight first. This grounding of air superiority F-15 C/D required our Canadian CF-18s to support NORAD operations. "NORAD, the joint American-Canadian air defence command, had initially hoped to be able to fill the Alaskan gap with F-22s, but not enough of them were available, said Canadian defence officials." The new F-15EX will be entering service in the next couple years. It looks like the F-15EX might be more expensive to buy outright than the F-35A, though the maintenance costs will be substantially higher for the 5th Gen aircraft. IIRC it was 1.2 billion dollars for 8 F-15EX, with the USAF hopefully to field 144 examples of the a/c. You guys with the "4thTFW" with the first LGB(LASER guided bomb) used in combat by an F-15E and the only air-to-air victory for the E variant during the war over an MI-24 Hind helicopter with a 2000 pound GBU-10 Paveway-II LGB gravity bomb did amazingly in Desert Storm, you should be very proud. Thank you. Question about when you guys deployed for Desert Shield/Desert Storm. The Strike Eagle normally uses a navigation pod, located under the right engine intake AND a separate targeting pod located under the left engine intake. With the F-15E deploying just months after IOC, upon arriving "in theater" I have read that only one of the pods was installed and that the other pod had to be installed overseas. I'm assuming the targeting pod was the one that required installation? Any personal knowledge of such occurrences with the Strike Eagle back in 90-91? Any cool stories? If I walked up behind you and yelled "GAS! GAS! GAS!"? I think you guys called it MOPP(Mission Oriented Protective Posture) gear, 6-7 years later I was wearing that same stuff stumbling in and out of "huts" with a single table in the center of the room/hut. On that table is a Coleman stove with a pot of boiling water into which tablets of CS gas have been deposited. Doff mask, spell your name phonetically, await approval and then exit the hut. My last name has over 13 letters and the Sargent told me to repeat that spelling before physically letting go of my combat webbing thus allowing me to go through a door to fresh air. Just before I barreled through the door a Corporal stepped out in front of me and as I stopped our shoulders physically contacted each others. He said "Easy there Recruit." then stepped aside allowing me to carry on through the door. It felt so good to get out and raise my arms and spread my legs as I stood there and let the beautiful breeze take a majority of that CS gas from my immediate body. From there they let us strip down a bit at the local lake and we passed around a few bars of soap. There was 8 females in our intake platoon. I could tell that this was all new to our all male Instructors. I as a white male was required to do 6 chin ups. I'll just say that there were only 2 females who could complete this component with one male who could not complete 6 sequential repetitions. All were present at "Graduation Day". Let's just say I was happy to see things "tighten up" greatly as my career progressed. I dont care who does what in their own personal time, but there are minimum basic physical requirements for as REASON. there are certain situations where lives can be saved so long as a certain amount of brute strength can be employed rapidly during combat. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Just know that there are many people around the world that hold your contribution and sacrifice in the highest of regards. It really is impressive what young en like yourself accomplished. The Air Force made up of guys like you got the job done. Salute!

My great Uncle was a P38 pilot oni WWII. He said one thing that got a lot of guys killed was that wingmen didn;t get enough time in the lead to know what to do if the flight leader got hit

I can't even imagine the mental anguish hearing "bingo fuel" brings to a combat pilot that also hears the tone of a missile lock in the middle of a dogfight. I'd imagine it's like like watching my mother in law drive over a cliff in my brand new Mustang, leaving me stuck between fits of laughing hysterically and crying like a baby.

Good planning and logistics is key to an operation of this scale. You can have all the fancy gear you want but if you don't have a understanding of how it works together and what it takes to keep it effective then you already lost. In particular the application of the Mig 29 as essentially cannon fodder.

I contracted at Marietta, GA in late 90s at Lockheed plant, working on the C-130 program. Contracted/lived in Ft.Worth... Lockheed plant... F-16 was the program I supported. They had just started F-22 production (partial) at the plant while I was there. Great memories.

The F4 and the F14 are the Hemi Cuda and Boss 429 of fighter planes. Old school badasses.

I missed it, I passed by almost every day. Graves registration was on the right, 14's were taking off in front of my Jeep. DaNang air base is close to where I was stationed. The afterburners were always a great reminder I didn't have to win the war alone!

@@rogerpattube - The F-14 Tomcat was and is a very special plane. The engineering and technology that went into were first rate and very innovative, especially with its swing-wing design, which provides a phenomenal combination of high speed and excellent maneuverability. No other plane in the world can do what the Tomcat could and can do. Sadly, it was retired after the cold war was over and long range threats from Soviet bombers no longer existed. Unfortunately, the powers that be that cancelled the Tomcat program were not very forward thinking and just a few short years later, our aircraft carriers are now facing the very real threat of long range anti-ship missiles. To counter this threat, a very high speed interceptor/fighter is needed to be able to intercept enemy planes that can launch these anti-ship missiles. Both the F/A-18 Hornet and F-35 the Navy currently is using are about 400 mph slower than the F-14 Tomcat, leaving them comparatively very deficient in defending our aircraft carriers. That's a huge speed advantage the F-14 Tomcat provides and can make the difference between one of our aircraft carriers being hit with anti-ship missiles or not. The need for the F-14 Tomcat has once again arisen, if that need ever even went away. Grumman has the next evolutionary step of the F-14 Tomcat all ready to go in blueprints. It's an amazing, even better plane than the F-14 Tomcat and is known as the F-14 Super Tomcat. This plane needs to be built and the sooner the better. As a side benefit, building this plane would put thousands of Americans to work at a time we need that most. I met a naval jet pilot at a party once. It was the closest I ever came to being gay haha. I was in awe of this guy. Mad respect for what they do. Couldn't get enough of him describing what it's like flying those jets.

The Mig-29 is a beautiful aircraft, but it's one flaw is that the engines put out a lot of black smoke, they smoke even more then the F-4 Phantom which was 20 years older.

Sadly, the Tornados suffered the highest casualty rates of the war. Balsy mission, balsy pilots, but outdated... AAA and radar technology had caught up to the Tornado and JP32 dispensor low-altitude anti-denial mission.

Infrared is passive. At least our's were. Enemy doesn't even know they are being tracked/targeted. Just a retired Army Air Defense Artillery soldier here.

How can an individual disrespect our military? Our national anthem? Our flag? Our police? Every single second of freedom that we enjoy is because of the braves. The courageous. The unselfish individuals that risk everything so that my family can have a decent life and above all, FREEDOM..!!

"The only changes that we made were as a result of weather" is such a badass line that shows how lopsided the initial war in Iraq was.

Generally, a good video but they totally missed the major role the Wild Weasels played in escorting nearly every strike package to suppress and destroy the Iraqi air defenses. We even escorted the F-117's once they realized they needed to start flying them in the day time. They also missed the role that the RF-4C played in helping to determine the daily target package after confirming kills and additional enemy movements and repositioning of equipment.

I agree about the Weasels. I was a radar technician on the F-4G'S. I also noted there was no Shot's of the AC-130 GUNSHIPS of which I worked on during Vietnam

The best recon platform of the gulf war was the tomcat with the TARPS pod

No matter how strong the army if the leaders do not know what to do with a victory.

The Tomcats were like Raptors in Jurassic Park on steroids

If I'm not mistaken I think that used to have missile problems accuracy wasn't all that good but I think they finally got the bugs worked out

Now what was surprising about the stealth bomber. By the time the gulf war started it was old news.

the stealth bomber didn't fly in desert storm the F117 stealth fighter did,the plane flew itself to avoid AAA fire while the pilots were hitting targets all they had to do was pull the trigger on targets

Who still does remember that PC game in 1991/92 ??? Excellent as it was (on early PCs, I just forgot a name: F-23, F-17, F-117??? Nice and easy to use flight sim, with missions in Mediterranean Sea :-) (and all you needed was a decent AT class PC and EGA graphic card... - btw - it was the best test for new PCs...)

Funny. I was a PATRIOT Battery 1SG on Dahran Air Base in Saudi Arabia. They flew Toranado's and F-15's 24/7. My unit got a lot of practice. I built a Tornado model complete with Saudi Air Force markings, missiles and 💣. Gave it to my son when I got back from deployment.

14:34 - this footage has been used for many years, to the point nobody really knows or is able to recognize it... but its first appearance is Libya 1986... I'm old enough to be wrong, depending on my memory.. my best friend was on a summer holiday in Libya when the USA led their attack... shrapnels were flying everywhere, slashing light walls of holiday huts...

What's crazy is they retired that aircraft. The fact they retired it to me means they have to have a replacement for it cuz it was so successful it makes no sense they would get rid of it. None of them were ever close to being shot down and they were only in service for about 20yrs. Unless they're planning on the f-35 and F-22 taking over its role.

@zoki kostadinov + It was detected it when the F-117 was opening it's bomb bay doors, two missiles being fired, one missed, the other exploded near by. The aircraft was not tracked until it deployed its weapon's.
