I notice I suck at the thumb part but hey it works well if not better with the pick too…it’s basically a selective picking legato thing

Very low action on guitar, and compression

This is such a dumb comment I know, but I really cannot get any sound out of the upstroke at all. Downstroke is fine but the upstroke is borderline non-existant. Like either my thumb slides over the string, I just miss, my nail mutes it, or on the rarest of occasions I'll get a very tiny and very dull note out of it, its barely audible. Normally i'd just persist until I can do it but i really feel like I'm doing something wrong. Anyone at all have any tips? Like for which part of the thumb to use or what angle to have it at it or whatever? Great lesson btw, this bit, minus the thumping, is surprisingly much easier than I thought

Unfortunately, I'm the first to admit that my thumping technique is pretty bad! I can only refer you to some credible sources. For me, I began learning from Ben Eller on KZread, his thumping series is very helpful. And of course, if you feel like spending money, Tosin Abasi's THUMP DVD is available now. I don't have it, but I've heard great things about it. Good luck, keep practicing!

Thanks for the reply man! Yeah I've already watched Ben's videos, they're definitely super helpful and (no offence) probably the most detailed ones on KZread atm. I've actually been contemplating getting Tosins DVD because I mean, who better to learn from, right? But yeah I'll just keep at it. Right after I posted this comment I went back to it and focused more on the upstroke and sorta had a couple realizations here and there about what I was doing. But yeah, I guess its just one of those things you gotta suck at for a while, but cheers anyway dude! Definitely gonna check out some of your other AAL vids.

I couldn't get any sound out of up strokes until i grew my thumb nail out a little. Easy to thump on thicker strings but on thinner strings i have to angle my thumb so the string doesn't get caught in the side edge of the nail.

Can't see the tab anymore :(

@@chrisb5048 No I hear you, I have the same issue. It doesn't seem to resonate as well as the other strokes. Try looking into Ben Eller's tutorials or Tosin's THUMP DVD. Best of luck man.
