THRUSTMASTER TPR REVIEW

In this video I take a look at the Thrustmaster TPR rudder system. Is this, finally, a PC Rudder system that won't leap around the floor, won't spike, won't break and will handle heavy abuse? Watch to find out.
For more information on the Thrustmaster TPR please take a look at the link below

Great review as always, Froggle. I purchased these about 3 months ago and LOVE them. I fly IRL and like to practice engine failures in commercial transport aircraft and could never really finese the rudders until I bought these. The TRP's are excellent in every way. I don't find them uncomfortable at all either. Well worth the coin if you can afford them.
Have had mine for about 3 months after trying all the plastic ones over the decades. Amazing rudder pedals! No comparison from the other plastic ones. If you can afford these, by all means look no further. Thanks for your honest review and all of your flight related videos!
Hi froogle, I watch a lot of your reviews before buy and news keep up the hard work. I bought these in a deal that was with the Honeycomb yoke of Aerosoft website. The rudder pedals are super and very precise as you say. worth every penny and I love them both products. I use double sided heavy duty tape to hold mine in place instead of drilling holes into my floor that does the best job.
Awesome review of all the products you have reviewed. You have a new subscriber! These rudder pedals are as close as it gets to rudder pedals found in most jet aircraft I have flown.
Very cool pedals! I think I started using Thrustmaster HOTAS systems back in the mid 90s.
GA tip: Heels on the floor so you don't takeoff or land with Toe brakes engaged!
@ShortFinal

even in the real plane, especially the Cessnas, its uncomfortable to try and have your feet off the floor. I always keep my heel on the floor until on the ground and braking.

Heels on the floor unless you are braking. That’s why I love these rudder pedals because they are like real rudder pedals.
I’ve been using these rudder pedals for over a year and i like them. I don’t love them.... just like them. Stay safe down there froogle.
Real-Life SEP PPL here, I bought those rudder pedals to force myself to get the heels on the floor (and not braking by mistake). A rudder is not aimed to be comfortable, but to mimic a specific position. This one gives a good feeling of what is used in GA, except that in a Cessna, the rudder pedals are much closer one to each other.

First thing that threw me when I flew a 150 for the first time having learned in the old Pa28. Also the castoring nosewheel was like taxiing whilst high on LSD until I got the hang of it and realised that I was much better off using diff. braking to steer the nosewheel rather than cajoling the nose left and right with power and lots of rudder..... Then when I did my IMCr and went back to the Pa28, I found the rudder pedals horribly heavy. Never happy, me....!
Ils, carrier traps, strafing/ aiming, steering, holding a heading, helicopter, crabing, cross controls! rudder pedals are an absolute!
I had my day one after they was available.. love them
I’ve had these for about 6 months. I can say they are worth every penny.
Great review thanks!
Just tie-strap some pieces of foam pipe insulation around those ridged foot arch rests to improve shoe-less comfort?
Holy crap those are the most beast rudder pedals I've ever seen
Thank you for the review. I actually decided to replace my MFG V2 with these ones. Longterm plan would be to get the Brunner forcefeedback ones but that's a lot of saving to do. Can't wait to try them out!

Yeah the Brunner pedals are the endgame apart from salvaging genuine pedals from a decomissioned airliner etc. Nonetheless I am happy with both the MFG Crosswind and the SLAW.

@TGabrielTPOI

@@nexus888 Returned the TPRs too and bought a pair of forcefeedback from Brunner. I have the yoke from the same company as it's incomparable, even with TPR. Compared to MFG is an improvement due to the sturdiness of the build. Full metal feels nice compared to composite. But as I said, if you want to feel a real pair of rudders try Brunner CLSE. It's midnblowing.

@@TGabrielTPOI thank you for the update. I just preordered slaws so doing last minute checks to see if I should get something else.
I just bought a set of these rather impulsively after fighting with the cheap T Flight pedals for a week in the Spitfire and Mosquito. I really hope these do the trick!
Noice. I've had CH pedals and now have the tfrp. All a bit plasticky for my liking to be honest. I am considering these seriously, but I'm leaning more towards the crosswinds purely from a price point of view. As a Scotsman the pennies matter most. Thanks Froogle. Appreciate the review.
10:03 before I purchase, I wanted to know if I need to attach this to some stand, because there looks like is screw holes. but I can just put it on a floor without anything.
Captain, thanks for your tutorial, I have a question, I checked the Thrustmaster TPR, when turning fully to the left and the same to the right, the rudder or the front tire of the plane only turns 10%, what could be happening in my configuration How can you help me?
Is it a load cell like the VirtualFly Ruddo pedals?
Are there any really good cyclic and collective controllers out there? I have never found any. It would be nice for actual helicopter controls.
@TheUnhappyTroll

yes. but they costs even more.
I've used them since release as I fly DCS, Elite or hand flying GA in sims. They are a God send. Used as anti turque it's almost like cheating! 😲
As Thrustmaster are operating a 15 day delay in answering support questions. May I ask this? I have downloaded that latest drivers, but when I try to install them, after accepting the Windows prompt to allow the app to make changes then nothing happens!
Excellent review as usual but between these pedals and the Brunner Yoke a poster below mentioned I’m looking at ~3 grand CDN (incl taxes, phew) so for now it’s twisting and twiddling my toes.
Great video! These are on my wish list. Just need my Saiteks to break now! 🤣

@@CharlesBerryamericanlinkage wow, forgot I had posted this comment. Actually finally took delivery of these pedals this week and they are amazing. I did have the honeycomb throttle on order but after months of waiting I cancelled. Will stick with my two saitek quadrants for time being. As for yoke I tend to fly old warbirds so my Warthog stick does the trick. Tempted by the Fulcrum yoke but will pick up when I do more GA flying.
Why is it so hard to bind the toe brakes. I can’t get them to bind any help
I went from the MFGs (which are excellent) to the TPR a number of months ago. A agree that these are supremely good in every single respect. "Heels down to the floor" during take off as in a GA-plane as opposed to the whole foot being "inside" the pedal, and the precision and the heft of the whole system. Great stuff! :-D Now, Froogle, go forth any get thyself a Brunner Yoke and have your life transformed! I can't recommend it highly enough :-D
Anyone know when they'll come back in stock? Amazon has them for at least 200 bucks more than normal . Uff
Hard to justify the price for just rudder pedals but those are so nyce 😍

To be honest, you could say that to just about anything that's isn't essential for living. Flight Sim is a hobby that can be expensive as you want it to be. It all depends on how hard-core each individual person is
Two years ago after I bought my Warthog and noticed I miss something for flying my Star Citizen ships I bought the Crosswinds. But since Star Citizen is still not really playable I dodged it and played a bit World of Warplanes for some month. Fast forward nearly two years I finally can play IL2 in VR and brought back my Warthog and Crosswinds. But to be honest I don't like them that much. They moved easily on carpet and even easily on parquet. Thus I bought the TPR (I completely missed, I had NO CLUE there were better pedals out there) and I have to say that these are much better than the Crosswinds: 1) they do not move, 2) they have a linear motion instead of the rotational on the crosswinds and many other pedals, 3) I don't like to rest my feet on the pedals.
Are these things even available outside the US? No sign of them in stock on any websites in UK, France or Germany.
Do you happen to know if the TPR peddles will work on a Mac running XPlane?

I just received mine And the box says PC on it I have the same problem Mac with xplane Heeelp
I think another perspective on the value proposition is building skills for pilot training. The closer to reality the better muscle memory will be.
Epic Review! Well done. The unit is well worth the money. I fly helicopters and quality pedals a must.
Hello friend, an important question, is it necessary to download a Software?, thank you.
Will this work with W7?
Only at the end did you clarify that the foot pain was from using them without shoes which had me confused as to whether you had some personal feet problems that were the issue. For me, using them without even some sort of slipper or light shoe would kind of be immersion killing for me anyway. Though, you could probably use some pipe insulation foam over them if this was your home sim preference in sock flying. ;)

Does anyone know what the difference between the two versions available on amazon? Theres the one for $417 (TPR pendular rudder) and then the (Thrustmaster TPR Worldwide Version) for $569?
@RobDBlackwolf
4 жыл бұрын
AFAIK they are the same, but since the seller is in the UK, the $417 have a huge cost for shipment (over $100), which is more or less already calculated into the price of the Worldwide Version).
You need rudder pedals on big jets for crosswind landing so saying you don’t need rudder pedals is wrong. For fighters you most definitely need rudder pedals. To do a lot of manoeuvres you need to coordinate the banking with the rudder. Plus flying a jet that loses an engine on one side needs rudder inputs until you can trim it out. So yeah... to fly properly you need rudder pedals or al the very least a joystick with a twist rudder.
Thought I would spend abit more and bought the Logitech flight rudder pedals. Hate em. Keep moving, don't feel well. Looks like I have to upgrade even more...
I'm sorry Froogle, but in real planes, we DO keep our feets ON the rudder pedals, even under AP in case of an engine failure. It's one of the first way of being rejected at an ariline simulator assessement (not having his feets on the rudder).
Hey Froogle if u aren’t going to use it send it my way - 20 yr + simmer and scout’s honor I won’t sell them - using a TM gas brake thing for rudders atm - had to try 😂
I use my pedals primarily as a foot rest.
These pedals are very close to what is in most planes. With jets, you usually keep your heels on the floor.
@CMDRkarstenvader
Жыл бұрын
heels on the floor for flight, heels on the pedals for making use of toe brakes during taxi.
Will get at least two, for me and my wife!😂✈
For rudder pedals that won't stay put, just go to your hardware store and buy some non-slip rubber matting. Cut it to size (slightly larger than the floor plate) and job done. I use it on my Saiteks. You can lift gently with your toes for positioning, but once they are flat they don't move. Wash every few weeks in soapy water to clean to retain the "stickiness". Roberts your fathers brother.

And if on carpet or rubs, grab Command Poster Hanging Strips - plop them on the underside and hold till secure and they'll stick incredibly hard to the floor. They leave no residue when you remove them which is a plus.

Had the Saitek Pro Pedals for about 2 years, sadly they broke and there was no economical way of repairing them without massive shipping costs. Bought the cheaper Thrustmaster Flight Rudder Pedals (TFRP) and they were surprisingly good for a standby pair, but after 18 months are also showing signs of deterioration (twitchy left brake). I will be saving up for these, but they retail here for AU$840. Might be a while before I can save that much.. Ouch..

Agreed, I bought my first yoke the other day and realised that I needed to get rudder pedals too. Up until now I was using a cheap logitech joystick which had a twist for rudders. can't do that with a yoke.
They are certainly good pedals and the design is pretty solid. That being said, in the grand scheme of flight simulation peripherals, if your company sells pedals that cost more than your top-end HOTAS, there is a problem. I am sure that these are expensive to make but I sense that the usual Thrustmaster mark-up is at play here and perhaps in a bigger way than it is for their other flight sim stuff. I hope that simmers don't feel pressure to buy these when many will be just as happy with cheaper models like the CH pedals or even Crosswinds. $500 for rudder pedals is rather extreme and while some can happily afford it, that doesn't make the price less extreme.
It would seem that the going price on these is now 599 dollars. Thats the retail price listed at thrustmaster web site and on line sites like bhphoto. Forget about seeing these offered at Best Buy. I had the warthog yoke and thrust ordered but canceled it as its just too big and bulky for ww2 i-l2 flying. Just going to use my cheapo 30 dollar logitech stick. If thrustmaster ever comes out with a replica mustang or any ww2 one i will be all over it. I am aware that trustmaster yokes along with most others seem to break after a year or two so its much easier to replace a 30 dollar yoke over a 550 dollar one. I cant skimp on rudder pedals though. I just wish i could find an established place to get them for 599. I am on the bhphoto list for when it gets back in stock. I neved heard of sites like pro pilot.

I bought this product after watching your video. Extremely disappointed. The product doesn't work. Windows does not recognize it. Maybe mine is just broken but what is MOST disappointing is the "support" response. They want Invoice, my home address, a picture of the serial number, a video showing that it doesn't work! Who is the genius asking for a video of something that doesn't work? They want the Control Panel picture showing the product, but Windows doesn't recognize it so how will it show up in the Control Panel, and if it is not recognized, how will it show up in the flight Sim? $599 for something that doesn't work while support plays delaying games! More disappointments because I opened an account with ThrustMaster, and bought the product directly through them but they can't figure this one out! NEVER again. Others should take note before you buy!
