    I know this video is 6 years old, but a big Thanks for putting it out there. This has been a goal of mine for a long time. About the time you were hiking the LHHT, my son and I were in the Allegheny National Forest on the Morrison trail. That was my last backpack trip. I've got to get back out there.

    I hiked a bit in the Ohiopyle area during fall colors in 2017, tried to get back a few times for a longer stay, but each of the years I had an opportunity the late October/early November window had a very rainy forecast. Looking at Laurel Highlands again this year but will have to see how the weather pans out. It is a fantastic destination for autumn leaves.

    Great video. I was 12 the first time I hiked on the LHHT, connecting from Camp Sequanota to the Turnpike shelter area. I've done sections since, but never an entire thru-hike (planning that for this summer). It's a great trail that passes through a lot of history in the area. One thing I would suggest is to keep an eye out for rattlesnakes near the top of those powerlines above the Conemaugh Gap. I've only ever seen them twice in my life, and both times were in the rocks near those that you jump up on at 52:45 of the video. Certainly not a danger, but be aware that they're there. Again, great videos. Thanks for the tremendous info with these.

    Another Very Good Video! Someone just asked me about the Double Layer Warbonnet Blackbird. I told him that my next one will be a single layer. Funny to see that you did the same. Good idea to take off the shoes and socks during a hiking break. I've not tried that yet. At the end was good. It's amazing what you think about after hiking for a long time. I do the same thing. I also heard a bear and cub on my last 2 trips. It was hard to see them good in the dense woods. The cub was making a crying type noise with the mother in the area. I wanted to get a video, but it was way to hard with the thick woods. I had a very hard time seeing them.

    I am going to be doing this hike in two weeks. I here the initial ascent is a long long climb but then the trail evens out pretty flat until you drop back down into Ohio Pyle. Along the way did you run into any Rangers checking on the shelter areas and or looking for stealth campers? Just curious as I plan to do 14 the first day to make it to the second shelter but if that was to much on the first day I was just planning pn steal thing off trail. My plan is six days five nights.

    Just bring 2 empty mountain house bags that you saved after dumping out the food. Dump all your mountain house food into smaller zip lock bags and then you just break out the empty mountain house bag that you saved and make your food in that. Rinse it out and repeat. +Robert L. Kessinger oh on this trip they just took up extra space and I couldn't fit all my food in my dry bag. So I repackaged them to save some space. I brought bagels and bulky items on this which I usually don't bring. But it actually worked rather well. And there was less garbage.

    +Robert L. Kessinger the more you hike. You will come to know what you need and what can be left at home. If you want to get nitty gritty create a lighterpack.com weight your gear and when you get back from a trip figure out what you didn't use or what can be left at home. I found this method helped me immensely.

    Do you ever get freaked out camping alone? Im thinking of doing a solo overnight hike but I wont lie, Im a little scared lol

  • @FrozensAdventures

    @FrozensAdventures

    8 жыл бұрын

    That freaked out feeling goes away the more you do it. When I did my first solo camping trip I was nervous about a lot of things. I think the more you do it, the more it becomes routine and that will help you settle down. For a first overnighter go to a place you've done with someone else and do the exact same thing (same trails, same camp spot, same food, etc) that way you will have that familiarity when you do it solo. A fire helps a lot at night and good camp practices like eating away from camp and always hanging your food will give you peace of mind about animals. Do it 4 or 5 times solo and you won't be nervous any more. GL and let me know how it goes!

    My mom was nice enough to drop me off and pick me up. There is a shuttle service, I think it's called wilderness voyages, but I heard it's expensive. Better to drive there and have someone pick you up probably.

  • @FrozensAdventures

    +Rob _ I was pressed for space this trip because i brought some bulky food. It actually ends up saving a lot of space if you repackage each mountain house meal into a ziploc freezer bag then bring the packaging on 1 mountain house meal to warm your food and reuse it. Pour the water right in the zjploc

    I'm doing the LHHT with the boy scouts 9 days 8 nights and the leader suggested I get a 70L backpack is that a ok size? this would be my first backpacking trip.

  • @FrozensAdventures

    @FrozensAdventures

    7 жыл бұрын

    No offense to the boyscouts but most of the leaders are still using older style gear. The new gear that's available these days is lighter and compresses a lot better. But it really depends on your gear. For reference I was easily able to do 6 days with a 48L pack, but again my gear was purchased in the past 3-4 years so everything is pretty compressible. Your best bet is to get all your stuff together and go up to an outdoor store and see if what backpacks will fit everything. Also take a look at my beginner backpacking series playlist on the channel, it will help and save you money in the process. Good luck with your hike, it's an awesome adventure!
