anybody with an idea why France at the jibe get such a big advantage. IMHO Australia had the right of way but the biggest disadvantage was they were way more close to the wind then USA and France. They lost to much speed by the thight turn at the buoy because of this and their lee hull dove into the water and add to the speed loss. France was far more on broad reach then the USA but also more away from the buoy then the USA. France could kept their speed better then the USA because their manouver angle was the smallest. To keep up the speed high as possible was the key to success in this situation instead the position to the buoy or the right of way. Brilliant executed by France 👏
@philbert006
10 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say brilliant, but definitely executed to near perfection. I think the Australians were trying to foul up the line for both the French and American teams, take advantage of the right of way and over cooked it, and the French were in a better position to capitalize on the mistake. Not to take anything away from them, but I think I consider it executing fundamentals just right, rather than some brilliant bit of intuition or the like. Here, as in any situation, you prepare yourself to take any advantage that is offered, especially being in position to jump when others make a mistake, but you don't ever count on someone making the mistake, particularly not at such high level competition. It also occurs to me just now that may be exactly what you mean by "brilliant execution." Either way, the Australians blew it, bigger than shit!

It's just crazy seeing snailboats clipping along at friggin 45-50 mph in a wind half that fast
anybody with an idea why France at the jibe get such a big advantage.
@philbert006

They don't show these races nearly enough in the USA. Yacht racing is really fun to watch.

Australia lost their speed because they stopped foiling, significantly increasing drag.
Both USA and France stole the wind from Australia which just pooped out in the air pocket. Most excellent example of taking the weather gage being priority in a racing turn, not slalom perfection. USA was too cautious. France was not gambling when they set up turn--experience obviously.

Classic Racing Line technique... Late cuts (like the French) are the fastest. Middle cuts (like The USA) are close but only if wind or the turn aids them
Was really good friends with an Olympic sailing team trainer. He also sailed in those big euro races for private owners. I’m a former college athlete still in great shape. Tried his workout. After about 30 minutes I was on the floor. Dead. That was his god damn warm up. I bench 300+. Squat 450+, and can still run a decent 100 time. The aussies ran into a wall! They halved their speed with that mistake.
My uncle use to do this back in the 80s and 90s. My sister and I loved going out with him sailing his boat!
Excellent job!
Australia must observe a formula that restricts turning radius to maintain maximum speed and still avoid hull hitting the water. This was primary cause of momentum loss.
Glad to see the little mouse robot from Star Wars was able to find more work as a bouy.

This applies well to cars too. You don’t want to bite the inside corner tightly because you reduce speed greatly. You want to hit it with as minimal of an arc as possible, but not too little that you reduce speed to almost zero.
This is some of the most unexciting and exciting thing I've ever seen at at same time😂

I've never watched this but I am now interested
My God, that looks like serious FUN!
Watching this a whole bunch of times, it looked like the two who took the lead worked to keep their foils level throughout the corner. Australia hooked the corner too hard, dragging their left side through the water the entire time, and then had to dig it out
France was fucking flying
AUs cutting the corner sacrificing all speed exiting the corner. USA coming on the inside gaining a position but gaining alot of drag trying to align the boat. FRANCE getting on the proper race line. Gaining much more speed exiting the corner.
Great sailing action. Too bad Austrailias hulls began to touch the water causing drag.
