Your videos are absolutely lovely, and I have made a habit out of watching one before going to bed to wind down. They are so relaxing and truly wonderful for living vicariously through a creative process. I especially enjoy the glazing process, because I am a painter. I’m looking forward to buying a pot from you in the future!

These full process videos are my absolute favourite, nothing quite like seeing a pot through from clay to glazed final piece. I have my favourite parts of the process, but seeing it all in sequence is strangely therapeutic. 💕

When you think about the shape of your spout, keep in mind how you made it when it was on the wheel and what direction the wheel was spinning. You should already know that during firing the all parts of the vessel will warp to some degree. Because the spout was thrown, the clay will remember how it was made and will warp in the direction the wheel was spinning. If you attach the spout straight during firing, it will warp in the direction of the wheel's spin, so think about how you need to distort it before attaching and how to attach it to the vessel. Edit--- I'm more of a hand builder because I focus on sculpture, but I love the wheel and playing with different shapes.

It only really seems to make a difference if you cut the end of the spout, or deform it from its original, thrown roundness. Clay unwinds for sure, but these spouts, as they aren’t altered much after being thrown, stay pretty much where put. If you were to cut the end, like many teapot spouts have, then yes, you’ve got to take that into consideration and attach it slightly askew, so when it fires it straightens out as the clay unwinds.

Also can I ask what’s the shrinkage rate of your clay and do you factor that into your throwing gage when u r making new pieces?

Thank you very much! This particular stoneware shrinks about 12% when fired to 1290ºc. I definitely take it into consideration, making things just a fraction larger than they'll ultimately be.

Not since I was a student! That occurs when you fire pots that are too damp, so since experiencing it a few times all those years ago I now dry everything out thoroughly before firing it.

Florian, I noticed that two mugs on the bottom kiln shelf look like they had already been reduction fired. Were you re-firing those?

does anyone have suggestions for how to make a spout for a form like this, not dribble as much or at all? Is it simply just the angle at which it is put on the form, or does the shape of the spout also do something? Thank you in advance for any help :)

What is the weight of a piece of clay for such vase?

I have a question, you said you use crackle color, but are those kinds of colors safe to use for food and drinks? Whenever I am looking for crackle colors they seem not to be foodsafe

How much did the clay you started with weigh??
