Hi Florian! Watched this entire video and I'll probably be watching more over the coming weeks. Got here from Tom Scott's recent video with you, and as a person that's always wanted to get into making pottery and the like, you make some fantastic pieces from what I saw in Tom's video and I appreciate the channel showing your process. Your narration is also excellent and explains *just enough* of what needs to be said of what you're doing at the time which I appreciate. You did excellent with Tom and I gotta say, this line of work seems to really suit you. Cheers!

Long time viewer here, I just wanted to let you know your videos have been one of my very few constant sources of joy and comfort during this rough period of my life -- so genuinely, thank you and I hope you never stop inspiring people with what you do. On a lighter note it has always impressed the hell out of me, as an avid videographer and editor, how you manage to seamlessly join your visuals with your voiceovers. I've second guessed many times whether you did voiceovers or not just because your actions matched what you were saying so well (until I found out in an old comment that you, in fact, did voiceovers). Seriously some of the best framed, shot, and edited stuff on this platform.

I felt that little sigh when the bowl flung apart in my soul. I do mixed media artwork, and once I tripped, catching myself with my hand right in the middle of a really intricate centerpeice of air-dry clay. Luckily I didn't go through the canvas, but for a second my soul was fully out of my body.

Florian, in the video released yesterday with Tom, you showed a finishing step for your mugs which involved a series of wet sandings. This is something I’ve never seen you do in your videos before. I think it would make for a good entry in a tips & tricks video of sorts; small topics that don’t quite fill out a full video. Also, this was another great video as always! It’s always such a pleasure to spend my Sunday morning breakfast watching your latest creations come to life. Thanks!

Hi Florian.. I've been watching your videos for a while now... I find them to be very calming.. watching some of them many times over inspired me to give the wheel a try.. so I bought one. I've never had any classes, but on the 2nd try I managed to throw some half decent bowls and then even trimmed them the next day.. they are looking rather cute 😍 I'm currently experimenting with many different type of glaze.. taking them for the 2nd firing next week 😍 very excited to see the results.. I wanted to thank you so much for explaining calmly and in so much detail.. having listened to your explanations many times over made many little things become 2nd nature.. these videos must take a lot of your time.. thank you so much for sharing your talent with us & for being such an inspiration! By the way I loooove the bowl.. looks amazing.. so beautiful & delicate.. as is all of your work!

I'm not a potter nor do I aspire to be one, but your practice to make the foot ring as neatly as any other part really stuck to me. Just because not everyone will pay attention or take detail on it you should take time and refine the "unimportant" parts too! And like this pot, if that "unimportant" foot ring was not carefully shapen the entire bowl would just collapse. It's a nice metaphor to basically... Anything! I love this kind on knolagde that you're not expecting but it's so very welcoming, thanks Florian!

oh ho! I always learn something new in each of your videos. This one was the simple tapping of a dent in the very center of the bottom when that inevitable peak happens when trimming from the center out. That little peak always vexes me and I have trouble controlling my tool when trying to scrape it away. The dent technique is perfect and then utilizing the tool at a vertical position. Excellent! thank you.

great pot. i have one thing to add. since you like very smooth stuff, you should give a try to some sandpaper, like say 400 grit silicon carbide. you can brush greenware and get rid of little bitty bumps very quickly, and after bisque if it seems a tiny bit rough, you can wipe over it and it will feel a little more velvety, especially a no grog clay. i still cannot get the tap centering to work for me. ;)

It is such a shame that the Brexit made it much harder to aquire one of your pieces here in Germany

Hi! I’m from Quebec, Canada. Could you explain why Brexit has made sending pottery from England to Germany difficult? And does this problem extend to Canada? I would like to purchase work from Florian. Look forward to your reply.

This is very strange I have been using very soft reclaimed red high iron stoneware lately. It wasn't intentional at first I did have a lot of reclaim to deal with but I had broken my left wrist which really scared me because of obvious reasons I was worried that I may never throw again but I have been working my wrist a little bit here and there with directions from my doctor at the six week Mark after surgery and I happen to turn over a bucket of reclaim onto my canvas table and work it into a ball. After a few days of drying and wedging lightly I realized it was pretty good exercise for my arm and wondered if I was able to throw a pot with such a soft clay. I remembered using some real pure porcelain that was like toothpaste out of the box so I figured I would give it a try this was much firmer than that LOL. I was able to throw a few vases and a couple of bowls and a coffee mug. It took me a couple of days because I didn't want to overwork my hand and wrist but I was able to throw the pot which made me extremely happy. Long story short I am back throwing pottery and I'm very happy it's very slow going but that's fine I am still very happy I'm overjoyed that I can do it and I'm actually enjoying seeing how far I can push this ultra soft clay. Once you get it centered and it's up and formed you can't tell the difference really it takes longer to drive but that's it

is there a reason you get the air out by hand instead of using a machine like I've seen often?

Do you have any advice on tap centering? I always find centering pots for trimming the most difficult part of the process and I've never been good at tap centering, I always seem to knock it way off center.

In college they had the wheels lined up facing each other. There was a very cute guy with extremely long eyelashes sitting opposite me. I had some moist reclaim I had wedged back up. So, when I kicked the pedal, the new piece got a little English and curved around and slapped him in the face like a piece of american cheese. Been married for 27 years now.
