Throwing a Bowl with Colored Clay Creating Marble or Agateware

This video is one of a series I am making on using marbled clay to create marble or agateware thrown on the potter's wheel. I think it is a joy to make and use, and I hope you enjoy these videos!
For more videos on using marbled clay, check out this entire playlist where I show examples of throwing bowls, cups, etc. Also, I plan to add handbuilding ones to it as well eventually! :
• Marbled Clay or Agateware
This video goes over the simple throwing and ribbing process used in creating a marbled clay bowl thrown on the wheel. I use the marbled prepared clay I made in my previous video on making marbled clay: • How to Mix a Mason Sta...
In this video, I throw the clay for a bowl, same as normal. I don't add a lot of explanation- but if you would like to see a more detailed bowl throwing demo with explanation, see this video: • How to Wheel Throw a S...
Using marbled clay has a couple of considerations. Firstly, you need to make sure your hunks of the stained and unstained clay are of the same or very close to the same moisture. If they differ much, you will have a terrible time throwing evenly. (Which may have been a bit of an issue with the wobble early in this bowl!) And, secondly, you must really rib/scrape off all the slip which is hiding the great marbled features. Without scraping off the slip, it is a much less exciting surface.
The little metal rib/scraper I use to remove the slip is a small one size 0 from Mudtools. www.mudtools.com/product-cate...
I have another video where I will be trimming the bowl, so you can see that process when I put a link below to that!
Also, here is a googledoc list for Amazon links of my FAVORITE tools I use within my videos:

Are you left hand dominate in your centering?

Hi Carissa- here’s a video specifically on centering if this helps! kzread.info/dash/bejne/kWV1rLitn7DJdMY.html The left hand is truly the primary centering force. With the left elbow firmly locked to your leg or something else stationary, you push in hard with the left to do the majority of the centering, while the right concentrates on the top. And, I am right-handed with a counter clockwise wheel rotation.

I bisque fire it like any clay- and then glaze and fire to the appropriate cone for the claybody. This is cone 5/6 clay I use!

KaransPotsAndGlass Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I meant can you cone the agateware Clay up as part of the centering process or does that cause the colors to integrate too much?

Ah! Now I understand!!! Sorry! That is an excellent question! I don’t think I would cone very much, because it does tend to do a mixing process. If you can avoid it I would attempt to avoid it! :)

I have to tell you also, this is goofy- but for some reason, I assumed that there was a language barrier talking about firing... I don't know why I didn't think of actual coning! (I get lots of questions with translation issues, where people don't know the term firing and such!) ;)
