    Rondo was a top 2 point guard from 2010-12. He was amazing at the time. Shame that he got injured right before he hit his prime.

    haytnas How is he not a system player? U dont average nearly double digit assist numbers by not being a system player. He just gotten that stigma because he didn't like Carlisle's system in Dallas. And I dont think Pop and Rondo would fight at all. I think Rondo would respect Pop just because of Pop's history and Pop would allow Rondo the freedom at the point that I dont think Carlisle gave him.

  • @Transfunctioneer

    @Transfunctioneer

    You have to realize that this team is very much an anomaly and is not a very reliable example to use as a "system". They had 3 legit All-stars/ Hall of famers that perfectly complemented each other, were completely unselfish, and had previously been the alpha's of their own teams. That's the only reason Rondo's ego was kept in check (for a time). It was was an absolute blessing that Rondo got to play with these guys. With Duncan gone, and Parker and Ginobili on the way out, I don't see Kawhi as having the leadership skills necessary to handle Rondo. That leaves Popovich, and you only need to see how Rondo's stint in Dallas turned out to guess what will happen when the coach is the only one that holds him accountable.

    Wilcox was a perfect fit for Rondo, look like he takes off on fast breaks, every time, that was a nice connection. I loved that 2012 team, they got completely beat up by the playoffs (other than Rondo and KG, was there anyone not injured?) and they still made it to game 7 of the ECF against the Heat. If not for all these injuries (Green, Bradley, Allen, Pietrus, Pierce, Wilcox, Stiemsma, either out or playing injured in the postseason) they could've won that championship.

    In the Al Jefferson year when Pierce got hurt all year and the Celtics won less than 20 games, Rondo's rookie year, the team had no shooters, no premier scorers, just Rondo and Perkins and Jefferson. They were sorely missing Pierce. I remember mentioning to a close friend in the off season that Rondo was a special player and would explode onto the scene when some good players were around him, like Pierce. My friend being the typical basketball fan immediately thought out loud, "well that means they just have a nice trade piece." Ever since that day I've always hated when basketball fans only talk about trades. Yes, trade are important and they help teams get better or defer getting better to fit a more realistic timetable, but to consistently think that a team doesn't have a great player and that the greatest players or player fits are always on some other team is nonsense. You gotta give special talents like Rondo the right environment to thrive and the time to do it. He had a terrible first year because there were no shooters or shooters around him who could take advantage of his great passes, Al Jefferson and Kendrick Perkins were big and strong enough and close enough to the basket that they didn't need to be wide open, they just needed the ball within 5 feet. Guys like Ray Allen and Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett and Eddie House and James Posey would definitely benefit from getting found wide open. How often do you watch basketball and see a point guard chuck up a contested deep 22 foot jumper when there is a guy waving his arms around to signal he is open and the pg just ignites it or just isn't skilled enough to see it?

  • @danielward8645

    I think he should. He was a starting point guard on the last title teams for the two best franchises in the sports history. He’s going to finish like top 10 or so in assists or playoff assists or something like that. He was a multi year all star. I think he should get in pretty easily. And he’s a guy that the saying “makes the players around him better” fits perfectly. Guys have always looked better playing with Rondo. Anthony Davis and Demarcus Cousins had arguably their best seasons when rondo was with them with the pelicans. Pierce, Allen and Garnett all looked a little better when they were with rondo despite all 3 being in the twilights of their careers. The only thing that might stop it is there’s some politics with that stuff and Rondo was not always well liked around the league.

    Looking at this video its pretty clear to see why Rondo has struggled so mightily fitting with teams. He is way too ball dominant. The only reason he experienced such success is because of how unselfish the BIG 3 were.
