The grenade you pulled outof the water is an m43, what's weird was the metal rod inserted where the igniter/detonator would be located (on the top of the pot) good on you for not handling it, could have been set to explode randomly.

For those wondering, Sauer would later partner with Swiss manufacturer SIG in the 70s. The history of happened after ww2 is very interesting.

It will never stop amazing me. The mysterious history of these items, the fact that probably the last human to touch these was someone Over 70 years ago, maybe even more.. For me, after visiting the Bundeswehr museum in Dresden, world wars get even more fascinating and extremely sad at the same time. Thank you very much sir for this content. Let’s all be grateful that our generation is not the one who have to experience the massacres of the previous century.

The Sauer & Sons pistol was a .32 Caliber (like the Walter PP and some PPKs). It was called the 38H, but that designated the design year, not caliber. .32 is widely considered underpowered now, but back then it was a common round, and evidently did the job. I own two Walther PP pistols - former detective issue in Germany well after WWII. The cool thing is that some features of that pistol are present in modern SIG-Sauer pistols. The Airborne guys probably liked it for its internal hammer in the H model. Less likely to catch on something and easier to draw. If those Bakelite grips are in good condition you have some money there. Most have been chipped or broken over the years, and that Sauer emblem one is highly desirable. I think it was only on one side though. The Luger is the most prized pistol from that era. It was a 9mm, so more powerful than the others the Germans issued. Meanwhile, the US was using .45 and .38 Special and a few .32 ACP for high ranking officers. Some were revolvers. Great finds! You need to go back there with a small boat and go further out.

@Ed The 1owa pyr0 I sold the K98 to a friend who wanted a good deer rifle, 8mm ammo was virtually unavailable back then, the Walther PP I sold at a gun show for $800, which back then I thought was fair, the PPK I traded even for a S&W model 27. I don't know how familiar you are with firearms, but the S&W 27 is a high dollar and very collectable revolver. Hindsight being 20/20, those three ww2 battlefield captures would be very valuable today.
