Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In our quest to become more sustainable, we’re constantly looking for new ways to develop smarter, more eco-conscious shopping habits. Despite a growing number of eco-friendly fashion brands, there’s nothing more sustainable than buying vintage. In this episode of #ThisLookIsMoney, we hit the streets of the Upper West Side in New York City to ask some of our favorite KZreadrs and influencers how they rock vintage style.

@@meganmatthews7611 idk. My Goodwill prices basic shirts (like tees and tanks) at $3.99 each. Walmart sells them for $2 each. Though I usually still opt to send the extra $2 at Goodwill, it's actually not the cheapest option. Also, just to be clear, there is 0 other secondhand / thrift shops within 30 miles of me. Sometimes I venture out of town to the city but it's a whole day trip thing and I can't afford to do it too often. You have to keep in mind that not everyone has access to affordable secondhand clothing where they live. Which sucks.

auburn.honey this is where your conscience comes in. When you can’t afford sustainable brands like reformation or secondhand stores like goodwill, before you even think to buy from target bc of he price difference, ask yourself, do I need this clothing item? Do I already own something similar at home? How many times will I even wear this? Do I need it, or simply just want it? Can I borrow this item from one of my friends of family members? When quitting fast fashion and only buying secondhand, I saw myself buying even less than I did with fast fashion despite it being even cheaper. That is because I asked myself these questions. You do not need an item just bc it’s cheap. You have to be conscious and ask yourself these questions before you even think about purchasing these items. That is THE most sustainable and affordable option.

@@annemcnally5 When i was looking into buying my shoes there was a vegan option. I asked some of my vegan friends how they thought they were and the didn't have them anymore. They lasted for about 2 years. Vegan pieces often mean plastics as well (not all the time but something to look out for). The leather industry still has some serious issues especially around water usage during production and the obvious animal welfare. But seriously I've had leather pieces which have lasted over 10 years. Fast fashion is one of the leading causes of emissions (I'm aware farming is also) and '1 million women' reported on statistics which showed the average use of clothing is 7 times before throwing away. The main issue is looking at what you care about the most and focussing on that one thing, especially when starting a sustainable journey. For me, I'm a vegetarian, but minimal waste is my main focus specifically around mass produced fast fashion. Ashley is talking about sustainability because the brands she is showing along with second hand buying is exactly that. Items which would usually last longer than that made of poly fabrics or synthetics :) hope it helped.

Anindita Chatterjee she doesn’t talk fast we are so used to people our age to have umms / likes in their speech along with a lot of long pauses when they talk but Ashley is the opposite she gets straight to the point because there are no pauses so it can seem that she talks fast
I love how Ashley is exhilarated when she talks about sustainable fashion. Long way to go girl! ❤❤
i feel like clothing stops being "thrifted" when it costs over 1000, then its just sustainable high fashion

I love how Ashley was like “I just graduated film school but somehow KZread’s my job now 🤷🏽♀️” while the others were all “I’m a lifestyle vlogger/model/professional Instagrammer” Dis is why I love you, Ash 😂

Crazy how ashley is not just bestdressed but also most well spoken , and able to bring a meaningful message in such a short time, she's also not as superficial and truly show affordable price(except for the shoes😅) like im not trifting to buy a 85$ pants
Ashley served looks and gave us an entire speech about sustainability, fashion, privilege and importance of buying second-hand. We love an absolute Queen.

I'm so proud of Ashley cause I feel she's grown so much over the past year and being on Harper's BAZAAR is such a cool thing!
I didn't get the title but I clicked because I saw Ashley ( i thought this as from Ashley's channel)
I think something really calming about this is how Ashley presented herself, if I saw this and I had to pick someone for a group I’d pick her she seems so friendly and kind and relatable.

i love ashley wearing her own jewellery line like YES YOU GO GIRL
I love love love that Ashley has pieces that she uses frequently and that you can tell she loves. A lot of youtubers just buy clothing to take a picture in and never wear it again. It takes true talent to show different videos styling the same clothes and also makes it more realistic to the viewers!
I love that the fashion world is embracing Ashley. I hope to see her partnering with more brands and fashion media
Ashley definitely stands out in this video with her humble and knowledgable vibes.
I’m so happy for Ashley! I remember watching her as a broke college student. She is still so down to earth💕

Hmmm yet she makes her money off fast fashion. Buying loads of clothes thrifted doesn't mean your sustainable, they're thrifted but you're still adding ti consumerism, it's a bit counter productive.
@user-im4my8hg3d
4 жыл бұрын
@@broombroominmycar2387 Are you suggesting she shouldn't wear any clothing at all, then? How else will she able to acquire clothing without growing cotton and making some herself? And increasing profit for thrift stores will only increase the incentive to sell more used clothing, which is much more environmentally friendly than a T-shirt from H&M.
@fionaherzog4050

@@user-im4my8hg3d well if you look at her instagram sponsorships she constAntly takes sponsorships from easy gal and urban outfitters, two large fast fashion brands
@user-im4my8hg3d

@@fionaherzog4050 In an age where fast fashion is incredibly prominent, the act of trying to stay sustainable is very admirable. We don't know what situation she's in- maybe she's having a hard time, maybe she's just in it for the money, maybe she's saving up for a project. I definitely don't believe that thrifting is counter-intuitive as the person I replied to, said. If we tried to stay 100% sustainable, we won't be able to even make farms because it's harmful and causes desertification.

I love how the other girls are like "yeah I go to fancy consignment shops and I got these pants professionally tailored and this $1200 bag is a staple for me" while ashley goes to goodwills and buys from sustainable brands and still has a cuter outfit
the fact that Ashley flips her own clothes instead of having them tailored and thrifts almost everything she owns is actually part of why i stan her so hard! i love her
