The prices of some of these things... OUTRAGEOUS. I wonder what savers and goodwill are doing with all the extra money they are charging on all the inventory that they get for literally FREE.

Tbf with inflation, their operating costs have skyrocketed lately. Everything costs more for everyone, including retailers. Also the higher prices leave more cool finds on the racks. When everything is cheap, people are more likely to buy it all up before I get there lol

​@@zelda1966 With inflation everything goes up, yes, but I have been an avid thrift store shopper since I was in middle school so I have seen inflation happen through the years. However, within the past few years their prices have MULTIPLIED, at a rate much higher than the price of anything else has, and their prices just don't make sense because they are getting inventory for free and they are not improving their stores at all. I have been to Platos Closet and Buffalo Exchange where they actually BUY their second hand inventory, and much of it is actually priced CHEAPER than Goodwill now... how does that make sense?? A lot of people are passing up stuff too because of the prices. A lot of good stuff is ending up at the outlets and then more ends up going to the landfills. The racks at goodwill are crammed and the donation lines are super long. If you're worried all the good stuff will be "taken"... There is plenty being donated, there will always be another find. I find plenty of amazing finds at the bins, it's cheap as dirt, by the pound. If it's all getting bought up for the steep boutique prices, how does anything good end up in the bins?

They probably saying we have overheads I.e paying their directors huge amount of money. We here in the uk has the same problem some not all I still can find a bargain or too. Omg great finds 👏👏👏

i could not stop focusing on how expensive everything was!! i cannot believe how expensive thrift stores have become!! for used things!! that they literally get for free. totally insane. i miss the old days where everything at the thrift was $2

Here in the uk our charity shops are crazy expensive, like £20 for a used coat ( so like $25-30 ) and it's not even a proper branded or designer coat - it's just pure greed

im so grateful the thrift store i go to still is cheap. im from a smaller town though so that might be a plus. i would not be thrifting if the prices were like these. that beautiful urban outfitters dress she looked at, $18? I’ve gotten $10 clearance clothes at ACTUAL urban outfitters 🥴

Savers employees here, we don't get our donated items for free. Any items go to our non-profit partners that the store then buys off of them for.

i actually work at savers in my city and i price clothes! it’s technically called “grading” as my manager says. we don’t price things ourselves, we go based off a grading system on a computer because we get thousands of items every day, it’s faster to let the computer do the pricing. when we get stuff in, all we do is inspect the piece & then determine the condition / quality it’s in. if it’s in good / like new condition, it’s immediately categorized under “average” or “above” condition. then we check the quality of the garment, which means we check for the brand, materials that were used, if it has any embellishments, etc. if the garment is in good condition then its immediately another “average” and or “above”. then once we select those buttons, the computer generates a price. if we selected above or average for both condition and quality… then our system generates those insane prices you’ve been seeing. anytime anything is in good condition, the system generates a high price. sometimes i don’t agree with the prices that gets generated, and i’ll do the grading process again and select “below” for the quality or the condition, because that’s the only way the system will generate $1-5 pieces… but it’s hard sometimes to get away with that because my manager checks to see how we are grading clothes… if they don’t think we’re grading correctly, they’ll send the piece back to us to grade it again. i do try to be that difference and price fairly at my store, and our sales have increased because every rack that comes my way i keep in mind this is a thrift store… but yes. i don’t know about other stores but this is the process the savers i work at goes thru. also if i try to manually input a price of my own, it gets flagged and my manager will see how often i do that and tell me to use the grading system thats in place. it’s a weird system for sure. we also have to be fast, not take more than a minute to make our choices when we’re inspecting a piece, so when we’re put under pressure… we just grade then move on to the next, sometimes we don’t have time to check to see if the price thats getting printed out is reasonable.

JUST turn the beaded tank top inside out and wash it in a mesh laundry bag. That is how I wash all of my beaded items... Hang it it dry.... gentle cycle. CHEERS!!!
