    I have a rolling mill. Never thought to use it to make the taper. You saved a hours of pounding and filing. Thanks.

    Don’t have a durston mill but I saved for forever and got a Pepe mill. Pepe vs durston vs cheap economy, went mid for Pepe. I want a durston mill eventually. Pepe mill you can see how the cog spacing does affect the mill work. Good work Andrew 👍

    Thanks a lot for the tip. What about very thin wires for example 0.5 mm in diameter, how do you taper the end of wire?

    Is there any way or do you have a video on soldering 3mm or larger diameter silver rod made into large jump rings with a butane torch. Children in the house and i dont feel the most comfortable with buying oxy mapp or other large torches inside. Would i need to use a special torch for the 14oz bottles of butane? Or will a refillable torch work for larger jump rings. Wanting to make a curb bracelet. Around 10mm so would need to be strong joints for the twist.

    Does wire then become work-hardened by it through the draw plate and then need re-annealing?

  • @moonshinesa8234

    @moonshinesa8234

    Yes it does, you have to anneal it as soon as it becomes too difficult to pull the wire through.

    If you have mill why would you use a draw plate? Can this not be done entirely on a rolling mill?

  • @Atthebench

    Ray A rolling mill can not roll round wire and also a rolling mill can not roll square wire with crisp sharp corners

    I would of liked to seen how you "aneed" ? the metal. .. where do I find that vid?

    V Ewald its annealing, heating the metal to a cherry red which allows the metal to be softened, so you can continue to work the metal.

    Why don't you just buy some 2mm diameter silver wire?

  • @Atthebench

    @Atthebench

    Жыл бұрын

    You don’t need to tie up money in silver lying around unused for months and years in sizes that you don’t use often. Buy one or two sizes and you can quickly make the size you want when you want

  • @Atthebench

    @Atthebench

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes I could but this way I can recycle my own silver plus I don’t have to wait for the size I need to be delivered plus I don’t have to pay postage
