    Ok...I swear this is my 100th time playing this entire playlist and day 20sh in a row....I hope youtube is pushing your videos algorithms becuz your growing pumpkins series is very informative, Easley to listen to and engage with...thank you for the playlist.. I'm In Nor.Cal zone 9. I started listening to your videos at the end of June, and by July 12th I decided to plant pumpkins...while I'm planting, from the course of my pumpkin in tub is now turning into a pumpkin hill on my backyard dirt/rock sloap (aye nako hehehe), to setting up irrigation (got my husband involved), to now getting the rest of the dirt ground clean, swept, lift, amended and treat read for the vine to take off...AND THIS WHOLE TIME IM LISTENING TO YOU...it's like having a friend study for the S.A.T's .. 😀😇😁💚🌱 🎃

    You seriously are going to help me a lot this year with our pumpkins thank you. My kids want them so bad and are looking forward to them. Last year our vines were great just no pumpkins, they flowered like crazy but no pumpkins. Did it years before and the pumpkins grew like crazy, but that was the pie pumpkins. Last year and this year are the Jack-O-Lantern kind. You helped me to learn a lot for this year in this video. I have no doubt if i follow what you did, if i follow your advice we will get very nice pumpkins. I thank you and my kids thank you.

    At can I do with blight on my pumpkin leaves?

  • @HapayuGardening

    @HapayuGardening

    6 жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the late response, was away on vacation. Depending on the type of blight, I've had success controlling blight with weekly treatments of copper fungicide mixed with neem oil. It's not an easy battle once you have it. Also be sure to remove all dead leaves if you plan to try growing pumpkins in the same area again next year (which I advise against), since it will settle in the soil and can easily re-emerge on your plants in the next year or two. This will be the last year I can grow pumpkins in my backyard for 2-3 years since the blight has been exceptionally bad this year, and I've now had it 2 years in a row. Good luck with yours, let me know if you find anything else that works well.

  • @olive4naito

    I assume the smaller pumpkins fall off because the main pumpkin is pulling all the nutrients into itself. The smaller fruits probably can't compete if the nutrients are bypassing them. Blossom end rot also occurs in tomatoes when you don't water often because the nutrients can't get to the tomatoes. It would be cool though if the vine itself were pruning those smaller pumpkins off to focus on the bigger pumpkin.

    Some of my favorite past pumpkin growing experiences have been from accidental plantings. Yes, pumpkins start out green and won't actually start turning the traditional colors until later in the season.

    You don't need so many pumpkins for your family. I am growing 3 pumpkin plants this year. But I only need 1 for myself. The other 2 are insurance policies. LOL It is much more efficient to grow potatoes and sunchokes even with a smaller yard. The only reason I grow pumkin is because I can freeze it and I can use its seeds for microgreens during the winter.

    I apologize for the late response. It's probably too late, but yes, pumpkins do need direct sunlight. While you can grow pumpkins in shade or part shade, you're likely to have smaller and/or less pumpkins. Diseases such as powdery mildew also become a challenge when growing pumpkin vines in the shade.
