Start your Envato Elements 7-Day Trial: 1.envato.market/c/3062508/138...
In this tutorial I'll show you how to create a simple boil effect that gives a wiggly edge look to anything you apply it to. We'll also create an easy to use squash and stretch rig that's easily adjustable. And then I'll top it off by teaching you how to use match cuts as a quick and effective transition that takes hardly any time to do, and completely fools the eye into thinking something more complex is happening. I'll teach you all of this in a way that allows you to easily make adjustments; work smarter, not harder!

    Hi Jake! awesome tutorial! I recommend you to try this expression for the squash and stretch rig: 10000/effect("Transform")("Scale Width"); instead of 200-effect("Transform")("Scale Width") basically because 100 (width) x 100 (height) = 10.000 so with this expression you will always have the exact same area of 100x100 I think it works better :) Hope you can see this.

    Bro, I had resisted signing up for any of those resource sites, like Envato. I would visit for inspiration mostly. I finally broke down one year and bought a Tumblr theme. Then another. Last year, in lockdown, I decided to try Envato Elements for a month....then upgraded to a year. This month I will upgrade to a team package for a project that teaches kids how to be content producers. You are not selling hot air - Envato Elements...I can swear by! I was foolish for waiting so many years to dive in. I think I'm a creative badass - but I have to admit, the amount of time it saves and the ease with which i just can grab and find elements instead of having to make them is.....i was just plain dumb for waiting for so long to sign up for the unlimited downloads!!! Thanks to Jake and Envato....during the pandemic lockdown I boosted my digital skillset enormously!!! (sorry if this sounds like a commercial, but its all true!!!)

    Hey Jake, Thanks as always for your fantastic work. I have a cheeky question abut the Transform Effect that is driving me nuts: I'd like to be able to use it with Shape Layer that has a Motion path that it is auto orientated to, then use the Transform Effect to Offset the Position the Layer, and Rotate around the Layer's pivot (anchor) point. (Think of a bee's flight path around a flower). When I try and do this with a layer that's PreComposed, it works ( used your time to lock the position to the anchor), but when it's a 'raw' shape layer, the anchor point for the shape layer remains stubbornly fixed at comp centre, making it impossible to offset rotations. Position offsets DO work. I have tried pick whipping anchor points, etc, but I can not find a way to force the Transform Effect to Rotate around the Layers Anchor point. I know you are a busy man, but if I am missing something, and you had a spare moment, could you give me some advice? All the best from London.

One question about the KEEPstrokeWidth scriptlet from BattleAxe: it doesnt work with squash and stretch. Whats the solution for keeping the same strokewidth? Layer Style works, but not with the transform effect..? unless i am missing something.. thanks for your help

    Hey Jake! I'm wondering if you've ever thought about making a simple tool to create arrows with shape layers in After Effects. I use arrows a lot in my work and it always feels like it's taking a little too much time to make such a simple graphic. There are already some helpful tools out there to create arrows, but I've found that they never give as much control as shape layers. My current solution to this is to set up an AE Project with nothing in it except for a single animated arrow, and I import that into any project that I use arrows in and I copy-paste it into place. This solution actually works pretty well (exept that I need to rename the layers before copying them into a composition with another arrow already in it, as that would mess up the expressions) but I'm sure there are other designers out there who would want an easy and convenient tool for this as well. So, if I knew how to make a tool like the ones you've made, I would have a one-click arrow button that creates a line that has a Trace Path already applied that is connected to the trim path, and a simple triangular arrowhead. Great tips in this video by the way!

  • @JakeInMotion

    @JakeInMotion

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's a fantastic idea. Can I ask, what kind of controls do you want access to? And what specifically do the other solutions not do well enough?

  • @bradyk6017

    @bradyk6017

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@JakeInMotion Thanks for the reply! The main things that I like to be able to edit are the path of the arrow, the trim paths (and being able to have the arrowhead stick to the end of the path), the X and Y scale of the arrowhead, and the shape layer options such as dashes and line caps. The other tools that I have tried are ARROWd by Ukramedia, Path Arrows by Mikey, and Easy Arrows that I got from aescripts. My only issue with ARROWd and Path Arrows is that they don't have access to all the shape layer options, so you cannot create dotted lined arrows with them or other things like that. Easy Arrows solves that issue by using shape layers, but as far as I can tell there is no way to animate the path of the line and to keep the arrowhead attached to it. Because of this I always end up using good old shape layers and a Trace Path, so it'd be super cool to be able to set that all up really quickly!

  • @rado3714
    @rado3714 Жыл бұрын

    So, when I move my shape's layer position after adding the squash-and-stretch transform effect, the anchor point doesn't follow and the effect gets all screwy. I was able to move it without affecting the squash-and-stretch by using a 2nd transform effect but is there no way to use the layer position to move it?

    tGreat tutorial! Question: I've always used time*500 on the Evolution property, is Random(10000) more efficient from a calculation perspective?

  • @JakeInMotion

    @JakeInMotion

    2 жыл бұрын

    tYoure welcome! I'm no math expert, but 10000 is just a bigger number. Random seed is a value where any change will be completely random, so you could probably drop it down to 10 and still get the same results, it's just a force of habit at this point to put in a large number. I don't think you'd see any render speed hit using time*500 over random(500), but I'll test it out and report back if I find anything interesting.

    Hello Jake! I know that my question is not related to the content you shared above. So sorry for that. But its several days that I'm struggling this issue! Help me please! I Know how to loop a number of last keyframes like this: x = 8 // number of last keyframes loopOut("cycle",x) OK. It's for the last keyframes. what if the selected keyframes were in the beginning or in the middle or even randomly between several keyframes. One here an other one there. the other one somewhere else! To be precise, I want to animate a human walks a pass. Then stops. Do something else. Then runs out of composition. Walking and running are looped array of key frames. I'm looking for an expression which loopin the related array of key frames for walking and loopout an other array of key frames for running. So the key frames between those two arrays wont loop.

    Unless you try to sell it off as your own work, there is no shame in using assets. Back when I did my 1-day animations for IG I used free assets once in a while to save time or focus more on the composition and animation itself. I also left a tag for the artist on the assets preferably for their own IG if I could find it 😁
