Basketball - NBA, high school and youth, is going down the tubes. I used to love the game, played and coached. Not anymore. It's just gross how coaches and parents act, then the players think that is the way it is supposed be.

Biggest problem in HS basketball is that coaches can’t control themselves, and they don’t hold their players accountable. The varsity basketball coach when I was in HS would put you on the bench for earning a T and let you sit there until the final buzzer. I watched a kid get T’d up last night and sit for about 2 minutes of clock time. Coaches value winning over character.

@@wesnall6796I see things like that as an official. Coaches enforce sportsmanship far better than any official can. I see that way more in boys than girls sports however. Girls basketball has a lot of authoritarian coaches while boys has too many soft.

@@4realjacob637 absolutely they can, and a coach of character will do so. Unfortunately, there are too many admins who will back the student and the parent over the coach. I’m lucky enough to have school admin that always has my back.

The tech on 3 white is there, good call. Call the double tech on 5 white and 23 blue and things would have calmed down there. That being said, nice job by the slot calling the tech, reporting it, and walking away.

As a crew we can never turn our back to the players. Send players to bench then have a conference. They did that AFTER the technical. They should have issued a double technical for the back and forth right after ball was dead.

@@justinyslas2949: The foul that was called on the shooting motion is not in question. The action after is not associated with that foul. So it would not be a common foul at all. @@freds.9407 Well unless you have been officiating for 25 years or more, I doubt you have seen as much basketball as I have on a regular basis, up close and personal. And since you likely cannot read very well, never said this was not a foul. I said it was not an "Intentional foul." And the actions after that are not an "intentional foul." They could only be dead ball contact which then would not make it an intentional foul. But you probably did not know this or the rules involved, so will wait for you to tell me in detail what should have been called here. But something tells me you are not aware of the rule at all and just yell, "That is a foul." BTW the term "Intentional Foul" or even "Flagrant Foul" are foul classifications. Those names have a specific application of the rules and how you proceed. Like who you give the ball to and who shoots the free throws. All of that matters in this play. ;)

My take on this is that we have a personal foul on white #30 during the shot by #23 blue. We also have a false double foul situation with #3 white picking up an intentional foul for a shove against #23 blue while the shot was still in the air. After this we should have double technical fouls on #23 blue and #2 white for unsportsmanlike conduct. I don't know what was said next, so I can't comment about the technical fouls, other than I assume someone from white was addressing blue in an unsportsmanlike manner, which also lead to the second unsportsmanlike conduct technical also called on white. I'm sure white's coach said something to earn the third technical. My version would have witnessed #23 still on the line for 2 shots for the false multiple foul situation, plus 6 technical foul free throws for blue based on the techs that were handed out. Also, the final score was 78-68 on this game and all this happened within the last 4 seconds or so, based on the inbounding of the ball after the free throws.

When a double technical foul is called it’s actually two technical fouls. One assessed to both teams at the same time. So really it’s more like 4 technicals here.

My observations: overall crew did some things well and some things to consider improvement. Getting together, clearing the floor, resuming play in a timely manner and at the correct spotwere great. Things to consider improving....the initial foul is an intentional foul not a technical, remember if there is contact it can not be considered a technical foul. The crew as soon as you realize you likely need to get together and talk need to clear the floor asap. It shows you are taking charge of the game and prevents other things from happening. If I follow the video correctly we had blue shoot 8 free throws (1 intentional foul and 3 technicals).....if that’s the case the head coach cannot be on the bench anymore, he is disqualified (direct tech, two indirect techs). The coach meeting was rushed. Both partners (crew chief and main calling official) need to be ready, we still had the calling official talking to the table when the explanations were happening and it looked rushed/not organized on video. Lastly, again none of us commenting were on the floor at the time but letting one team shoot 8 free throws in this scenario looks strange! I would highly consider looking back on this again and wonder if all 4 fouls were appropriate, especially the technical fouls. Overall very good job by this crew.

Initial foul was called, so it's a dead ball. push after the whistle is an automatic technical. They gave him 2 for whatever reason. Coach got the 3rd. 23 shot his 2 foul shots and the next player shot 6 for the technicals. Handles it right.

@@luckedout I think this would be a multiple foul with the second foul being intentional. Shooter was in continuous motion so the ball is not dead. It would be kind of a moot point anyways.

I am a HS basketball ref and in my initial viewing I thought the blue bench coach may have deserved an in-direct technical foul on the head coach for giving the high-five (it's antagonistic in that situation) but 23 didn't do anything to deserve a T ( unless the ref's hear something we can't). Wish I could see everything to the right to figure the rest of that out.....that assistant shouldn't have done that regardless. Get to the line and play the game.
