I was just about to comment this, in the northern hemisphere the sun goes across the southern sky during the day. In fact during winter the sun is primarily in the south as it rises in the southeast and sets in the southwest because of the change in earth's axial tilt :)

1:44 If you're in the Northern hemisphere the sun does indeed go to the south at noon. So it is exactly like real life since the setting of Valheim is based on the northern hemisphere.

Exactly what I was about to say. Only near the equator does the sun ever sit directly overhead. Also, hovers much closer to the southern horizon in the winter with the tilt of the Earth making it far away, and that's actually why the day is shorter. Same goes in reverse for the Southern Hemisphere

@@alurkingislander By that logic, Valheim takes place extremely far north in its hemisphere, but during the summer for a much longer day, which would then be the only reason it's not deathly cold during the day.

Hmm. Contemplating a small decorative farm/garden in a half circle shape with benches along the wall using a pine tree as the pole to measure the time. It would integrate with the base and look nice, but also serve a function. I know, a pine tree sways, but who needs to be accurate when you can be fancy? XD

Thanks for the inspiration, this was great! I created my own twist and added colors to mine with green on the left and red on the right. It also makes the signs easier to read using bright colors. 9 minutes of night… it honestly feels like 2 hrs of night whenever I play. Left a “Like”… because of the amount of EFFORT to tell the time in a game. Only if you’re at your home. The easiest way to tell the Valhiem time = Have a stop watch while playing.

Note IronGate is in the northern hemisphere, so for them, the majority of the wintertime, the midday sun is south.

Actually, the sun is in the south for the entirety of the year when you live in Scandinavia, and IronGate is based in Sweden. It's definitely further south in the winter than in the summer, though.

Was so excited to see a new video- will make sundial after I finish my house. Only had valheim a week and because if you I ventured into the swamp yesterday and found 10 iron for my house based on your house. Your videos are awesome and funny- Love the viking thinking chair. In northern parts of the world, the sun actually goes from SE, S, SW during the day in winter. So a sun in the southern sky is not totally unheard of.

I'm probably not going to build a sundial, but this did inspire me to build an outhouse

I make a south-facing vertical wall up on the roof of the base where everyone can see it with a horizontal beam coming out of the middle. I put a sign that says "morning" on the west side of the wall and a sign that says "evening" on the east side.

This was insane in the very best way. Definitely going into my Go To folder for Valheim.

@@CrateOfBananas Sun comes up in the east. Run to a body of water right as you get out of bed, should normally see a nice beam of sunlight in the water that can be easily used to orient some building piece east, or click 4 times counter clockwise to have a piece orient north.

built 1 meter box sundail in all my games since the game came out. was nice an compact way to see about what time it was. used the 1m wall to build a box, north-aligned. Then used the 1/2m floors to top it. On the side that was to the north and center, added on the top of the box a 1m post. On the other sides added. West: rise -->, East: --> Set, South: --> noon --> is good enough to know early game if I should run out or sleep. but also easy fitting in a base with out taking up a lot of room
