I would say that to make it work the best it would be an animated movie something like Dragon Ball: The Three Idiots! The entire movie could be an action comedy with it leaning into the more comedy side of things. Like at the end with the battle against the big bad one of them could be firing a blast only for another one to appear in front of it to try and punch the guy thus getting hit by the blast as well.

Technically, Dragonball returned even before BoG with Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!! back in 2008 (a lot of people forget that movie). I think DBS has also mentioned Vegeta's brother in a passing reference too.
